qwebirc44982Hello. I want to make my website responsive and YUI framework isn't, can you recommend a responsive framework?19:33
* scrottie scratches his head20:24
@scrottieHTML 1 is pretty responsive when paired with a threaded server such as Seaside or Continuity.  it *screams*.20:25
sbauri think he's talking about "responsive design" like has been discussed on the http://www.webgui.org/forums/design/any-experience-modifying-styles-included-webgui-to-be-html-5-and-responsive-/ 20:27
sbaurand here http://www.webgui.org/forums/design/responsive-design20:27
@scrottieovernight, everyone decided to overload the meaning of a word, it looks like.20:36
@scrottieso "responsive" has something to do with mobile devices, but I'm still not clear what after reading this.  it takes about different sized thumbnails.20:36
@scrottieand something about content flowing correctly when zoomed in or on a small screen20:38

gryHi08:50
gryWhat are the available options to install webGUI on nginx + debian please?08:52
@scrottiewG8 is designed to work with nginx09:01
@scrottiethough of course you could put nginx in front of wG709:01
@scrottieI have an installer for wG8 on Debian, but everyone is using wG7.  if you want to run 7 but with nginx in front of it, look at the "source install" instructions on webgui.org.09:02
grywould you mind sharing wG8 .deb file perhaps? it looks easiest09:02
@scrottieactually, now that you mention it, there is a wG7 .deb09:03
@scrottieapt-cache search webgui09:03
@scrottiewebgui - Content management platform to maintain complex web sites09:03
grywhat does `cat /etc/*release*` tell you?09:04
@scrottiethere is no .deb for wG8, just an installer script that knows how to install the deps with apt and then set everything up.09:04
@scrottiecat: /etc/*release: No such file or directory09:04
@scrottiecat /etc/debian_version  ... wheezy/sid09:04
grylsb_release -a09:04
gryah09:04
@scrottieNo LSB modules are available.09:05
gry'/etc/debian_version' says 6.0.6 for me, and I don't see webgui in apt repos09:05
@scrottieDistributor ID: Debian  Description:    Debian GNU/Linux unstable (sid)  Release:        unstable   Codename:       sid09:05
@scrottieI'm not much of a Debian head.  sorry.  I don't know what version number wheezy/sid is.09:06
gryI think this means that I'm on the stable version, and you're on the unstable one; I'll try to get the .deb file and install anyway09:06
@scrottiethat's one strategy.09:06
@scrottieit installs some doc files in /usr/share09:07
@scrottiethere are things you have to do before wG starts.  details about that are in there.09:07
@scrottieI read the instructions once but don't remember what they say, but a lot of people stumble in here for help because they didn't know to read that09:07
@scrottiehttp://gist.github.com/2973558 is my experimental installer for wG8.  and again, no one runs 8.09:08
gryI'm happy to test beta software, but I'd rather attempt installing and running stable version for a little bit first09:09
@scrottieunderstood.09:09
@scrottieapt-cache showpkg webgui output:  http://pastie.org/614854209:10
gryhah, it's translated. nice. didn't know that09:11
@scrottie=)09:11
@scrottiethat's one area where volunteers have really kicked butt.09:11
gryoh they don't like perl? ;)09:11
* gry grins09:11
@scrottieyeah, not much i18n perl out there.09:12
gryhm. the deb depends on apache2 doesn't it?09:17
@scrottieyup.09:17
gryok, I'll have to attempt source install then09:18
gryhttp://www.webgui.org/download/source links to http://www.webgui.org/community-wiki/source-install which is 404?09:18
@scrottiehttp://www.webgui.org/wiki/source-install should be right.09:20
@scrottiethanks for the 404 report.09:20
@scrottieI don't think anyone is working on the site right now though =|09:20
gryhrm, it says I'll "need" apache; I'll ignore that and keep reading09:21
@scrottiesorry, man.09:21
@scrottiewG7 is a mod_perl app.09:21
@scrottiewG8 is Plack.09:21
@scrottiethere are faked up mod_perl environments out there that may or may not work.09:22
gryah, ok. I should try wG8 then09:22
@scrottieer, faked up in the sense that they aren't actually Apache mod_perl.09:22
@scrottieso Apache is a show stopper.  I'm certainly not fond of it myself.09:23
@scrottiepreaction (Doug) did wG8's admin interface, which was a re-do from 7's.  he decided to use frames.09:23
@scrottieI should fix that one of these days.09:23
@scrottieright now, it's pretty easy to get a frameset of two frames inside of a frame of the outter frameset.09:24
gryI'll follow the instructions in http://gist.github.com/2973558  then I guess? is that the best way to install wG8 on debian stable?09:24
@scrottieif it works, it's the best way.  if it doesn't... uh, bug reports welcome!09:24
@scrottiethere's also a "WRE" package (WebGUI runtime environment) that bundles up all of the deps as binaries built with a non-standard --prefix09:26
@scrottiethat still has a lot of steps in the install, and the docs aren't good.09:26
@scrottieI have better docs I've been meaning to merge in laying around here somewhere, but they might have bugs still, and there are a lot of steps to that route.09:27
@scrottieif the installer works, it should be a matter of answering some questions and then the thing is up.09:27
gryinstall directory is in webserver directory, right?09:27
@scrottielong term goal is to make wG into CPAN modules.09:27
@scrottiedoesn't matter.  Plack is a webserver and so is nginx, and they both get configured with what you give it there.09:28
grycan plack apps talk to nginx somehow so I don't end up with two deamons running?09:28
@scrottiethe installer was designed for systems that don't already have something on port 80.  if you do, then nginx won't start (wG should start still).09:28
@scrottiebut you can fix that.09:29
@scrottiethe idea with nginx is to have multiple daemons running.09:29
@scrottienginx is mostly just a proxy.09:29
gryin other words, does wG8 work if I uninstall nginx?09:29
@scrottieyou don't need nginx, strinctly speaking, but it does offload serving static files from plack/perl.09:29
@scrottienginx is fast.  perl, not so much.09:29
gryah09:29
gryok, so I can set any install directory I like then, they'll configure itself to talk to eachother09:30
@scrottieyup.  at least that's the intent.09:30
gryi kind of wonder what percona server it, it sounds odd09:32
@scrottieit's a fork of MySQL09:33
gryah09:33
@scrottieOracle bought MySQL and then started bullying the community, commiting really unstable code (even for MySQL standards), and generally breaking things.09:33
gryhow do I know my mysql password then? it's the first time I'm being asked (it asked for a 'mysql' password even though installed percona)09:34
@scrottiePercona installs mysqld, safe_mysqld, mysql, etc.  the installer itself doesn't even know which one you have.09:34
@scrottieit could try to find out, but there wouldn't be much point.09:35
gryok. how do I find out my current root password with that?09:35
@scrottieumm... when you install percona or mysql on Debian, Debian makes you pick a root password.09:35
gryah, I forgot that. it works09:35
@scrottiethere's a trick for resetting it if it's lost.09:35
grypreaction is in #perl, but surprisingly isn't here :)09:36
@scrottiethe installer does attempt to get 'root' in without a password and then have you set it, so if it's asking for the password, there is one.09:36
@scrottienot so surprisingly.  he stopped working here some time ago.  actually, so did most of the people in here who were staff at one point.09:37
@scrottiehaarg is very helpful and hasn't worked at PlainBlack in quite a while now.09:37
haargoh hey it's my name09:38
@scrottiehi haarg =)09:38

gryi have no idea how to work around that07:27

@scrottiethat should fetch the latest copy08:22
@scrottiegists are little git repos =)08:22
@scrottieI have a pile of stuff in those things.08:23
@scrottietook out the 'gzip on' directive, too, since I now know that nginx sometimes comes with a config file with that on.08:28
@scrottieit's odd that nginx throws a fatal error if it sees the same directive twice even when they both have the same value (eg, on)08:28
@scrottiethen sub-config files dependon the main one in a bizarre sort of way08:29
gryit completed install now (although thte 'plackup --port 8081 app.psgi &' spams console a lot)08:31
@scrottiesounds right.08:31
gryclicked 'turn admin on', a lot of 404s on images/css, think something's going wrong08:36
@scrottiehrm.08:36
gryi typed not a real hostname when installer prompted me, so i'll re-try and see if it helps08:37
gryt should probably learn to delete a mysql table if it exists (i had a lot of tries and ended up typing fake domain names)08:37
@scrottiemysql --user=root --password <database name here>08:37
@scrottiedrop database <whatever>;08:38
@scrottieif you told it the domain was www.foo.com, the database name would be www_foo_com08:38
@scrottieyou can also do 'show databases;' to see which exist08:38
@scrottieit creates a database for each domain, each full of a bunch of tables08:38
@scrottieI don't think that that's the problem, though.  links should all be relative.08:42
@scrottieif you hit localhost:8080 and it pulls up the main page, then it should be fine.08:43
@scrottieor whatever port.  I forget.08:43
@scrottiemore likely, 08:43
@scrottie'turn on admin' is busted.08:43
@scrottiehave an exact example broken link?08:43
@scrottieer, if localhost:8081 works but localhost:80 doesn't, then plack is configured incorrectly.08:44
gryi'll give more detail if entering real domain name doesn't help; give me a few minutes08:44
@scrottiesure 08:44
gryyes it was okay on :8081, i just clicked turn admin on and it broke @ http://foo:8081/your_next_step?op=admin08:45
gry... where foo is my domain08:45
@scrottieworks here.  hmm.08:47
@scrottieURLs look like /extras/assets/small/subscription.gif H08:48
gryha08:48
@scrottie /crystalx/crystalx.css ... that's an asset (in the database, not in a file)08:49
gryhmm, it tries to connect to 'gry7' now (this is one of the fake domain names i entered earlier), where do i set it to not do that?08:49
@scrottieall static files should start with '/extras/'08:49
gryhttps://pastee.org/sbzgq08:49
@scrottiesitename in the .conf file in etc/08:51
@scrottiethere's a log.conf and a spectre.conf, but not those... the one named after the domain... www.example.com.conf, for example08:51
gry? which file?08:51
gryhmm08:52
@scrottiewG is set up to host multiple domains on one install.  that happens if there are multiple config files.08:52
@scrottieyou'll have to restart it after editing that.  it's JSON.08:52
@scrottiere: https://pastee.org/sbzgq, it can't connect to the database08:54
@scrottieyou shouldn't have gotten anything out of it08:54
@scrottieshouldn't have seen a 'turn admin on' link to click08:54
@scrottieif the installer set up the 'webgui' mysql user and the WebGUI config file (etc/www.example.com.conf), it botched it.08:55
gryplease see https://pastee.org/bk3nn08:55
gryyes i have this 'cant connect' after a re-install, it had the turn admin on link before08:56
@scrottieokay.  hmm.08:56
gryroot@localhost:/data# grep -R gry7 *08:57
gryroot@localhost:/data# 08:57
gryouch sorry08:58
grythe installer didn' kill previous running instance08:58
@scrottieokay.  it connected to mysql as root and reset the webgui database user's password.  but the config file *should* match.08:58
gryi did that and it showed up now08:58
@scrottieah, okay.  makes sense.08:58
grychecking for the turn-admin-on stuff now08:59
-!- alpha- [~silver@unaffiliated/alpha--] has joined #webgui09:00
gryyeah, a lot of 404s for admin interface but not for the foo:port homepage09:01
@scrottiehave an example of a 404'ing url?09:01
gryyes, /extras/yui/build/autocomplete/assets/skins/sam/autocomplete.css09:01
@scrottieokay, that file should exist.09:02
gryrestarting nginx didn't 'fix' those09:02
@scrottie grep -i extras www.example8.com.conf ?09:02
@scrottieer, grep -i extras etc/www.example.com.conf ?09:03
@scrottieshould have something like this:     "extrasPath" : "/data/domains/www.example8.com/public/extras",09:03
gryhttps://pastee.org/mzz4809:03
@scrottieI don't know if the paths are wrong, or if it didn't copy the "extras" (static misc stuff it uses) over09:03
gryroot@localhost:/data/domains/gryllida.xen.prgmr.com/public# ls09:03
gryuploads09:03
gryroot@localhost:/data/domains/gryllida.xen.prgmr.com/public# 09:03
grySo it didn't :)09:04
@scrottiedidn't copy stuff over.  okay.09:04
@scrottiewould you please edit your .conf file in etc and change the "extrasPath" entry to instead read: "/data/WebGUI/www/extras", restart wG, and tell me if "turn admin on" looks okay after that?09:08
@scrottieI'm wondering if I can get away with skipping copying stuff into /data/domains/whatever.com/public/extras.  right now, wG and nginx don't match.  wG wants a copy, nginx should be looking at the copy that comes with the git checkout of wG.09:09
gryYes, looks ok now09:10
@scrottiefix #3 then...09:11
@scrottiestill, from port :80, it should work, because nginx would be looking in the right place for static files09:12
@scrottie(pushed up another version)09:13
gryhow do i edit 'yourname' thing in heading?09:17
@scrottieuhmhm09:17
@scrottieI'm really weak on the UI side.  I spend almost all of my time on the API side.09:18
@scrottielet me see.09:18
@scrottie'settings', probably.09:18
@scrottieAdmin Console -> Settings -> Company Name, probably09:19
grygreat09:21
gryand how do i stop it from spaming console so it writes stuff to file instead?09:21
@scrottiehrm.  what spam are you seeing?  access log stuff?09:23
gryyes09:23
@scrottieplack does that in development mode.  let's see.09:23
gryactually i think 'plackup --port 8081 app.psgi > allout.txt 2>&1 &' worked09:23
@scrottiethat too.09:24
@scrottieperldoc plack says that it takes a value from -E on the command line, the PLACK_ENV environment variable, or ... no, just those.09:24
@scrottie--access-log on the plackup command line lets you specify a file for access log stuff.09:25
gryhm, i changed company name, still the same  'yourname' stuff at the top09:25
@scrottiedo you happen to know if you're using the "crystal" style?09:28
@scrottieselect * from settings where name = 'userFunctionStyleId';09:29
gryI'm using 'Underground User' style09:30

* gry tries another style09:32
@scrottiehttp://localhost:8081/style-underground/style-underground-user?func=edit09:32
@scrottiethat should get you there09:32
@scrottieand it's pretty safe to ignore the warning.  no upgrade script is going to change that style.09:33
@scrottieor if it does, it'll just patch something.09:33
gryokay09:33
grywhat do I type instead of <div id="logo">your<span class="red">name</span></div>?09:33
@scrottieodd about the no edit link though.  the idea is that everything has one.09:33
@scrottiewhatever you like... 09:34
@scrottie^c;09:34
@scrottiethat's a macro that gives you whatever is set for your company name.09:34
@scrottieor you could hard-code something else in.09:34
@scrottieor take that out entirely.09:35
grygreat, i used this macro, and it works09:35
@scrottieneat!09:35
@scrottiecould you send me a screenshot of the thing with 'turn admin on' and no edit button there?  I'm curious to see this.09:35
@scrottieI'm scott@slowass.net, if you don't want to use imgur or one of those.09:36
gryhttp://i.imgur.com/flHe1wx.png09:36
@scrottieyou are fast.09:37
gryyeah, a nice screenshot tool i have, it is fast ;)09:37
@scrottieyou stuck in "guppy" for the company name?  I'm not familiar with what that style looks like09:37
@scrottiehrm, come to think of it, I guess the style template itself wouldn't have an edit link there.09:38
@scrottiethat would be in Admin Console -> Settings -> UI -> User Function Style09:39
@scrottiethat has a drop down for selecting style and a link to edit whichever style is currently set09:39
@scrottiesince I suck at the UI, I just did, initially:  select * from settings where name = 'userFunctionStyleId'; then: select template from template where assetId='zfDnOJgeiybz9vnmoEXRXA'; then: select url from assetData where assetId='zfDnOJgeiybz9vnmoEXRXA';09:40
@scrottieand that told me what URL to send you to to edit.09:40
gryyes, i typed 'guppy' into company name field, so it showed up10:03
@scrottiecoool.10:03
gryi would wonder how to customize sidebar layout at this point10:05
grywebgui links section appears to be hardcoded10:06
gry... into the template10:06
* gry comments10:06
@scrottiethat's pretty bad.10:07
@scrottieI imagine most of those site styles need some work.10:07
gryis there a macro for current year?10:08
gry... for the (c) YEAR line at the bottom10:08
@scrottieheh10:08
@scrottiewell, since copyright rights extend from the date work was done (or the date a revision was created), that template is probably copyright 2008 or so.10:09
@scrottieclaiming the current year would be a little dishonest, considering the state of neglect.10:09
gryi think it's a (c) line for entire site unless i am mistaken10:10
gryouch, i set 'help' style for admin console and it's now pretty much gone, how do i undo that?10:10
@scrottieoh yeah.  that would make more sense.10:10
@scrottieheh10:11
@scrottiehang on.10:11
@scrottiehmm.10:12
@scrottietry this:  update settings set value='PBtmpl0000000000000001' where name='AdminConsoleTemplate';10:13
@scrottieand this:  update settings set value='p8g7xlQaTeKSRRDo-_ejSQ' where name='templateIdAdmin';10:14
grygreat, that worked :)10:15
@scrottieyay!10:15
gryI made a test domain, but links in sidebar are absolute: http://guppy.uk.to/10:23
gryAny way to sort that out?10:23
@scrottieargh.10:28
@scrottiewG7 didn't have that problem.10:28
@scrottiepreaction--10:28
@scrottieadd an /etc/hosts entry?10:28
grywhich one? I've not used that file yet and I don't know how10:29
gryHeh, doing a lot of things means doing a lot of mistakes too... :)10:30
@scrottieit maps one or more hostnames to an IP address10:30
gryHmm.10:30
@scrottieif you can make guppy.uk.to map to the IP of the server, it *should* serve those static files10:30
gryIt does.10:31
@scrottieeg, I've this in my hosts file:  192.168.0.6  brotherprinter10:31
gryI'm missing the idea. guppy.uk.to resolves to the ip of the server. ... what is a next step?10:32
@scrottieI was talking to another fellow earlier today about redoing the admin.10:32
@scrottiewhy is it a problem in this case (I know it's a problem in general) that the admin uses absolute links?10:33
gryIt's not just admin; it's the user-facing side of the website in the first place.10:33
gryHm, or maybe not.10:34
@scrottiethe hostname it's trying to use can be changed...10:34
@scrottiedoes guppy.uk.to not resolve to that server?10:34
@scrottieor did you want to change it later, or what?10:34
gryI think the problem went away after I made a change to the domain: I also managed to forget password, and http://guppy.uk.to/home?op=auth;method=recoverPassword is empty10:35
@scrottieperl -e 'use Digest::MD5; print Digest::MD5::md5_base64("123qwe");'10:35

@scrottieif so, don't break anything ;)10:38
@scrottieby the way, dumping and undumping the database can be handy if you're experimenting and might break things10:38
@scrottiethere's a developer's tool for WebGUI called wgd10:38
@scrottiehttp://haarg.org/wgd should give it to you.  it has built in help.  it lets you edit assets in $EDITOR, dump and undump easily, explore the asset tree, and lots of stuff.10:39

+danny_mkgry:  That must be one of the settings in Root->Import->[Style] Underground->Navigation->Side Navigation23:32
+danny_mkgry:  Did you try changing the settings for Side Navigation?23:33
@scrottiehttps://gist.github.com/scrottie/4956597 ... danny_mk, it seems like there are two basic strategies that could be used23:34
+danny_mkOK, I am open for suggestions23:34
@scrottie1. remove Content::Admin from the config file and replace it with something else that is designed from the ground up to work with whatever parameters the Drupal UI passes, and to send back whatever JSON etc it expects23:35
@scrottie2. modify the Drupal UI to instead use parameters and datastructures that the current wG uses and generates23:35
@scrottie#2 would almost certainly involve adding "admin plugins" to do attitional work, but that wouldn't be hard23:36
@scrottiesure, go for it23:37
gryhttp://i.imgur.com/DRWmijV.png why am I taken to this after I save the flex menu? I wouldn't want a link to 'home' there; this is not the template I'm using; and 'turn admin on!' link should be irrelevant as I already have the admin sidebar23:43
gryoh, and the navigation is shown twice for some reason.23:44

@scrottieiframes.23:57
gryokay23:57
grywould you mind looking at the demo please and trying to get the sidebar behave in it23:57
@scrottieas far as 'Home' showing up in the list, the Nav asset might have a setting that lets you take that out.  otherwise, the call to getLineage() in the Nav asset needs to have its arguments changed.23:58
@scrottieget it to behave how?23:58
@scrottienot have 'Home' in it?23:58
gryso when I go to http://demo.webgui.org/demo1360878334_998/your_next_step it still has links to the other stuff http://demo.webgui.org/demo1360878334_998/ sidebar links to23:58

gryyou can log in: Admin '123qwe' -- or I can fiddle with it and create a new username for you if this doesn't work23:59

@scrottieit works in the 8 demo?07:37
@scrottiethe bug board?07:38
@scrottieis there an 8 demo?  or is that 7?07:38
@scrottiegenerally, stuff works very, very well in 7 but not so much in 8.07:38
@scrottie8 was a huge modernization effort but it broke stuff.07:38
gryscrottie: I think 'requests tracker' doesn't work in wG8, but there is a 'Collaboration System' with the same icon and it wors. I don't know whether it's the same thing (I think not).07:42
grys/wors/works/07:43
@scrottienot exactly the same thing.07:43
@scrottiethe Collaboration System kind of tries to do everything.  it's a beast.07:43
gryAnd I don't know where to get details of why 'Requests Tracker' thing doesn't show up at all (not even a create form).07:43
gryMay I ask what's coming in wG9? Is it very different from wG8?07:44
gryOr it doesn't exist and WRE versioning is different?07:44
@scrottiethere should be an error log somewhere07:44
@scrottieI don't remember where the installer sets it to be07:44
@scrottiemaybe right up in the install directory07:45
@scrottiebut looking at WebGUI's log would be the first step.07:45
@scrottie$webgui_root/etc/log.conf should tell you where the log is.07:45
@scrottiefeel free to no-paste the errors for me.  I might have an idea, but I'm already doing one or two too many things at once right now ;)07:45
@scrottiealso, log.conf lets you turn the error level up07:45
@scrottie'DEBUG' is the most verbose07:46
@scrottiethat should give a general idea of what's happening, and then someone has to go in and insert more debugging statements or attach a debugger or something to figure out exactly what's going wrong.07:46
@scrottieor it might be really obvious from the log output.07:46

@scrottieoh, actually, setting showDebug should make it so that you get a stack trace in the browser if it fatals out07:52
gryhttps://pastee.org/h7aht enjoy ;)07:54
gryInterestingly enough it's another method in this one.07:54
gryAaah, the same one actually. It can't call www_add **because** getProperty is failing.07:56
@scrottieokay, I have to finish fixing danny's bug then I'll try to get around to fixing this one.07:57
@scrottiein theory, the unit tests should cover this stuff.07:57
gryI don't have any idea why it's looking for stuff in WebGUI::Asset::Wobject::Collaboration if it's a request tracker asset, not the collaboration one, but probably they share something.07:57
@scrottienope.  I don't know why that's appearing if that is the case.07:58
@scrottiethey would share WebGUI::Asset::Wobject.  that's it.07:58
@scrottieline 2796 of Asset.pm (eg /data/WebGUI/lib/WebGUI/Asset.pm)... if you like, change that to just $prototype->get rather than $prototype->getProperty and see if that fixes it?   I think getProperty() is an archaic alias for get()08:00
gryhttps://pastee.org/ncz37 Can't use string ("0") as a HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at /data/WebGUI/lib/WebGUI/Asset.pm line 2798.08:08
@scrottiethat's no good.08:08
@scrottieI'll have to look at it more.08:09
@scrottiethanks for trying though.08:09

gry1Looks interesting -- anything related to user feedback would be great. I would ideally want the site to have a contact form in it.14:17

@scrottieit's hard for me to tell if I'm breaking anything with a "fix" if unit tests don't finish, but I ran them as far as they would go before the stopped.  since I'm doing a diff of before and after, it's hard for me to go in and run the individual ones by hand and compare the results (too much spam text to wade through in the diff if I do)18:45
@scrottieso I need to look at that diff and then probably commit the fix for the explosion that happened at the end of the installer run for you18:46

@scrottiegry, nope.  Postgres support is on the long term todo list, but that would involve breaking the core out, making it work either way, and then letting people port the various different assets as they needed them and had time.03:11

gryit's pretty ram intensive for a small non-profit project I have03:12
@scrottieyeah.03:12

gry(which I assumed they can't do now?)03:13
@scrottieI'm backlogged on bugs right now, but you should go to http://webgui.org/8 and open bug tickets for each problem you have.03:14
@scrottieone ticket each, please.03:14
@scrottieand post traces and error log output and such in each.03:14
@scrottieexactly, re: multiple requests at the same time.03:14
grydid you add that issue about 'request tracker' getProperty stuff or should I add it?03:14
@scrottieotherwise, each process has to have its own copy of each item in cache.03:14
@scrottieI have some details about it open in a browser tab03:14
@scrottieif you still have the trace handy, please put it in there.  otherwise, I'll paste it in.03:15

@scrottieokay, will do, next time I'm going through tabs.03:21
grynot sure how long I'd keep that running on the server, it + mysql are taking a lot of ram. But if I stop doing that, I'd simply set the stuff up in a vm03:21
@scrottiehow little RAM does the server have?03:22
@scrottieI develop on a dual core 1.2ghz machine that has 2 gigs of RAM.03:22
@scrottiewG doesn't take up nearly as much RAM as firefox.03:22
@scrottieyou can reduce memory usage by editing the .conf file and removing mention of assets that you don't plan to use03:23
@scrottiemysql probably has a lot of RAM mmap'd to files.  that shouldn't be in-core memory, but the large number can be scary.03:24
@scrottiewG does eat up a lot of RAM in caching things.03:24
gry196 in use out of 247MB; a lot cached03:27
grymy laptop has specs similar to what you mentioned, but twice better: think a 2.4 ghz processor and 4GB ram03:28
gryso it could be pretty much fine on it03:28
@scrottiethat machine only has 247 megs of RAM?  what the heck is it?03:28

@scrottieah.03:38
@scrottieyou can make wG go a lot faster than as how it ships.  some quite busy sites have been built on it.  large, busy sites with lots of user generated content on a CMS is always an interesting proposition.03:39
@scrottie... but there has not been much work on making it slimmer.03:40
@scrottieI have an OpenSSI cluster sitting here (http://openssi.org/cgi-bin/view?page=features.html).  with all of the nodes on, it has 9 cores.03:41

@scrottieor else something from http://www.webgui.org/addons01:04
gryaww01:04
gryI don't see how to search or browse addons, do you?01:05
@scrottieclick one of the box headers to get them sorted that way01:05
@scrottieaside from the site wide search, I don't see a search either01:05
gryhttp://www.webgui.org/community/addons appears to have search, but a search for 'tracker' comes up with nothing01:06
grysame with 'bug' and 'issue'01:06
grythey find something, but not a thing that looks relevant to what I'm looking for :-)01:07
@scrottieget the attention of one of the PlainBlack staffers during the day tomorrow and ask them to export a copy of the relavent template for you.01:07
@scrottieand send you a wgpkg01:07
gryI would only hope that it works on 8 I guess? or won't it?01:08
@scrottieit should.01:08
grygreat, please do that and thanks :-)01:08
@scrottieme do that?  huh?01:08
@scrottieno, you ask a PlainBlack staffer Monday.01:08
gryah01:08
@scrottiefor that template.01:08
gryhow can I find them?01:08
@scrottieI don't have access anymore, I don't think.01:08
@scrottielet's see01:09
@scrottiein the "Edit" view for a request tracker, in the Display tab, I'm guessing probably the "Collaboration System, Post Form Template"01:09
@scrottiewhich is set by default to "Request Tracker Post Form"01:10
@scrottiethey may have copied and modified that one to add more form fields01:11
gryplaying with it at the demo now01:12
@scrottie<select id="myCustomField1" name="userDefined1"> ... ah, yeah, it's using the "userDefined" fields... that one for severity01:12
gry<tmpl_var fatal.label> <-- those things are localized I guess01:12
@scrottieyup.01:13
@scrottieat night, often the Dutch guys are on and hanging out.  they're fun.01:14
@scrottiethey're probably closer to your time zone.01:15
gryhanging out here?01:55
gryhow do i um, realize who they are?01:56
@scrottiegenerally, they have ops01:57
@scrottiein theory.01:57
@scrottieumm.01:57
@scrottiein practise, it's daviddelikat or perlDreamer.01:57
grycan we just ask the former now as he's here ^^01:59
* gry shall wait for them to wake up01:59
@scrottieif he were unidle, he'd have responded.01:59
gry:)01:59
@scrottieit's his weekend.  I'm guessing he isn't here.  and I know from experience, he doesn't backlog.01:59
@scrottieyour best bet is to keep an eye out during US business hours for one of those two.02:00
gryyup, thanks :)02:00
@scrottiealternatively, you could read up on HTML::Template and Template::Toolkit (or whichever one that template is) and take a shot at editing the tempalte yourself02:00
@scrottieI could dig up some doc references on webgui.org for how to make templates02:01
gryI can see it has some foo.url stuff in it, such as sort by something, which the table header items link to. I think that it might be more than a template file that I need to edit, especially if I'd like it to be localized properly02:04
@scrottiethere's an International macro you can call.02:04
@scrottiegetting templates from a staffer is probably the simplest thing to try first.02:05
gryit is :)02:07
@scrottieor maybe it isn't, if they never wake up =|02:07
gryif I can sit and wait without sweating and editing files, that's ok ;-)02:07
@daviddelikathey gry what's up?02:23
grydaviddelikat: hi! thetre is an issue tracker at http://webgui.org/8, what software is it powered by? I'm looking for a issue tracker like that for my site02:25
grys/thetre/there/02:25
@scrottieit looks like the templates that come with wG for the Request Tracker don't have form controls for open/closed/etc.  I suggested getting a wgpkg of the templates used on webgui.org and trying those.02:26
@scrottiewe couldn't find anything in the Bazaar offhand.02:26
@daviddelikatshould be this:   https://github.com/plainblack/helpdesk02:28
@daviddelikatits a side package you can install02:28
@daviddelikatsort of a plugin02:28
@daviddelikatbut it is not a simple process of getting it workign02:28
@scrottieaha!02:28
@scrottiewell, the install instructions don't look bad at all (completely typical), but if it adds an asset class, then it is wG7 only unless ported to 8.02:30
@scrottiethanks, delikat.02:30
@daviddelikatI think the main site is running WG802:31
@daviddelikatso that means it should be ported02:31
gryhmm.02:31
gryok, I'll be trying it now, give me a few mins02:32
@daviddelikatnope its at 7.1002:32
@daviddelikatif you are trying on WG8 then I wouldn't try too hard unless you're porting it02:35
gryhm. I see.02:37
@daviddelikatI gotta go; dinner is waiting02:38

@scrottienot especially.  find _The WebGUI Developers Guide_ on webgui.org, read how to create "assets" in there, and then look at the stuff in lib/WebGUI/Asset/Wobject for examples of how to do it in 8.03:09
@scrottiemostly, the "property" definitions changed.03:09
@scrottiewhen I look for things on webgui.org, mostly I use Google to do it ;)03:11
gryhttp://www.webgui.org/user-guides/developers-guide/developers-guide-wiki/assets this one?03:13
@scrottieI think so, but it looks like the code isn't properly indenting03:41

+danny_mkis it a good idea to create a webgui branch for the html and css for the new interface?19:25
@scrottiealways a good idea to work in a branch, yup.19:25
+danny_mkWould not mind people taking a look at what it is so far19:25
@scrottieI'd love to19:25
+danny_mkso create a branch off my github account right?19:25

@scrottieokay, one minute19:26

+danny_mkjust working on suggestions on how to realease19:28
+danny_mkbefore I even create a branch I am just looking for suggestions on where to put the stuff19:29
@scrottiebranching, adding and commiting to the branch, and pushing that up to your github makes the most sense19:29
+danny_mkright19:29
+danny_mklet me explain19:30
+danny_mkI am just going to put up the html, javascript and css in a directory so that anyone can open index and see what the interface looks like19:30
+danny_mknow after I branch I want to decide where to put the html/js/css 19:31
+danny_mkwhat directory19:31
+danny_mkit could be under www/contributed or something like that19:31
+danny_mkwhat do you think?19:32
@scrottieoh.  I would just make a gist for that.  it's a git repo but without all of the overhead and it doesn't show up on your github page unless you click on the gists.19:35
@scrottiego to gist.github.com, put 'test' or something in, save it, check that out, add files to it, and push it back up again19:36
+danny_mkOK19:37
+danny_mkpublic gist right?19:38
@scrottieyeah19:39
@scrottieI lost the ability to rsync and sftp files up to my linode.  I rebuilt ssh/sshd on my laptop and on it.  maybe I need to reboot the laptop...19:48
+danny_mkhttps://gist.github.com/dannymk/499738220:09
+danny_mkscrottie:  It's still a little crude but it is getting there20:53
@scrottiethe pop-up works21:21
@scrottieand that's an iframe...?21:21
+danny_mkyes21:21
@scrottieI'll try to look into making that just a div21:22
+danny_mkit is already just a div that includes an iframe21:22
+danny_mkwe can load dynamic html into that div21:23
@scrottieoh.  why did they bother with an iframe, then?  for the scrollbar?21:23
+danny_mkit is easier to implement this way because the admin stuff includes lots of html that will break a div21:23
+danny_mkit has to be cleaned up to remove all the extra stuff21:24
+danny_mkI also placed the admin template in that directory21:24
+danny_mkthe current one21:24
@scrottiehrm.21:25
@scrottiewell, there's also lots of stuff that breaks being in an iframe.21:25
@scrottieone way or another, the admin proper is going to need some work.21:25
+danny_mkyes, the ideal here may be to load the default one into an iframe, create a tab to port the stuff to other tabs while keeping the iframe up front21:26
+danny_mkI would definitely recommend getting away from the iframe but it is going to require work21:26
+danny_mkI think it is still a better interface21:27
@scrottieno question there =P21:27
+danny_mkalso grouping stuff may remove the head for the accordion 21:28
@scrottiehmm?21:29
+danny_mkhead=need21:29
@scrottieI was assuming the left side accordion thing was getting the axe in favor of the new stuff?21:29
+danny_mkyes, that was the intent21:29
+danny_mkI am just looking for suggestions21:30
@scrottieon what to do, or on how to do it?21:33
+danny_mkon what to do21:34
+danny_mkhow to do it has to come through contributions if someone wants to help21:34
@scrottieexactly what you're doing.  kill the accordion, use Drupal's admin UI without change (to start with; can always decide to change the color or whatever later)21:34
+danny_mkyes21:34
+danny_mkthat is easy stuff21:34
+danny_mkOK21:35
+danny_mkwill work on killing the accordion next21:35
@scrottieyup.  I'll help you get it hooked up.  getting ready to reboot Linux here... I really need to take a week and blow Linux away and try FreeBSD again.21:35
@scrottiethat's one of the two frames pulled in by the admin template in the gist notes I posted.21:36
@scrottieand I can run do more research as needed, too.21:36
+danny_mkquick reference to backup and restore the db and site using wgd would be great21:36
+danny_mkI can do it manually or by writing a quick script but once I change the admin template I am sure I will run into trouble21:37
@scrottieI always did that with mysqldump/mysql, for some reason21:37
+danny_mkOK, that is what I will do21:38
@scrottiemysqldump --user=root  --add-drop-table --complete-insert --skip-extended-insert www_example_com(or whatever database) | gzip > dump.sql.gz21:38
+danny_mkLOL, yup got that21:38
@scrottieoops, needs a --password in there before it will even prompt for a password21:38
@scrottiethen:  zcat dump.sql.gz | mysql --user=root --password www_example_com21:39
@scrottieto un-dump it21:39
+danny_mkit would be great if I could just do:  update table set admin_template='webgui_admin' where assetid = ...21:39
+danny_mkjust to change the admin template back to the old one just in case I break something21:39
+danny_mkit is one of the settings values21:40
@scrottiewgd setting templateIdAdmin=whatever21:40
+danny_mkI will try to find it21:40
@scrottieor else:  update settings set value='whatever' where name='templateIdAdmin';21:40
@scrottiethat's one of a few templates involved.21:40
+danny_mkhmmm... cool.  That definitely helps21:41
@scrottie=)21:41
@scrottie(I often just do select * from settings where value='whatever' to see if there is a setting for a template)21:41
+danny_mkOK, have to break for lunch.  Talk to you later...21:44

ckotilawww, that figures. the really cool features always get left out. 19:23
ckotildanny_mk: i dont have anything specific. But perhaps maybe something making webgui google docs aware, and it could just link ot google docs for the complex things. so in webgui you would see a list of documents, and clicking on one would take you to gdocs for editing.19:24
ckotilagain, i dunno. just thinking out loud19:24
@scrottiewe used Google Docs Spreadsheet for the Tempe Bike Count.  people entering data got kicked out every several minutes, all at the same time, over and over again.  (people doing the count used physical count sheets made of dead tree.)  then when I went to do Q/A on the data, it was garbage.  I basically had to reenter *all* of it myself, because Google kept dropping columns.  people would hit tab and it wouldn't advance, or they'd enter a zero and19:25
@scrottie... or they'd enter a zero and Google would drop the keystroke.  it was a disaster.19:25
ckotilthat sounds painful. i havent hit any issues yet with it. but i havent used it extensively for anything19:26
@scrottieit's nice for putting together bids on projects while you're voice conferenced together, but I don't do that often enough that I care about it.19:26
ckotila couple other guys in my group have been using it a lot to track some router interface moves, for a bunch of different locations. 19:26
@scrottieassets that pull from Google Docs would be cool.19:26
ckotilseems to work well. i viewed the spreadsheet, and spotted a typo. and *poof* he fixed it right away. that was the mind blowing part19:26
@scrottieit is nifty, but Google didn't invent that.  writely did a web based thing apparently inspired by SubEthaEdit for the Mac.  then someone tried to do a whole office suite like that.  *then* Google came in and trounced everyone.19:28
@scrottieand I was working on a game in late 90's on Netscape 2 that did that ;)19:28
ckotilsounds like a nightmare to implement well19:28
ckotilheh19:29
@scrottiehad a ring buffer of forms that it populated with data to send to the server and forced submit on.  they were each in a frame that was size 0 so they were their own page so it didn't affect the main page.  and then another frame was doing Netscape "server push" stuff, which kept a connection open and pushed one MIME object after another, but it was pushing web pages full of JavaScript with calls to JS in the other window to scroll the map19:30
@scrottiechange icons, add texts to the log, change HP, etc19:30
@scrottiewasn't bad to implement at all.  it was a lot of fun.19:31
@scrottienothing had ids in JS1 in NS2.  it was all document.windows[0].forms[1].19:32
@scrottieor names that you could address things by.19:32
@scrottieyou could append text to the end of the document but couldn't do .innerHTML on things already written to the document.19:33
ckotilah the good ole days19:33
@scrottiebut you could change the contents of textareas, of course.19:33
@scrottieyup!19:33
ckotilbefore my time tho. i first touched a computer in 96 at age 12. yeah do the math ;)19:35

@scrottieor at the mysql prompt03:42
@scrottieit's probably worth installing wgd:  wget http://haarg.com/wgd -o /data/WebGUI/sbin/wgd03:42
@scrottiechmod ugo+x /data/WebGUI/sbin/wgd03:43
gryhttps://pastee.org/vq4uw04:08
haarggry: that command to download it was rather off.  instead try: curl -L http://haarg.com/wgd -o /data/WebGUI/sbin/wgd04:11
haargand then the chmod04:11
gryok, waiting for 'wgd setting sitename' to actually output anything04:21
gryit hangs quite a bit04:21
gry'No WebGUI root directory available.'04:21
gryroot@localhost:/data/WebGUI# sbin/wgd setting sitename04:21
gryNo WebGUI config file available.04:21
gry`sbin/wgd -F etc/gryllida_xen_prgmr_com.conf setting sitename` - empty outpt04:22
@scrottieto run spectre, wG, wgd or any of the utilities, you need to set the WEBGUI_CONFIG environment variable04:23
@scrottieand PATH04:23
haargsitename is from config, not settings04:23
@scrottieor specify -F.  but setting WEBGUI_CONFIG is easier.  ifyou just have one sites, put it in your .bashrc04:23
@scrottieoh.  right.04:24
* scrottie sighs04:24
gryedited the conf manually, restarted both site and spectre,04:28
grycount is 245, no error in webgui.log04:29
gry(not even the Couldn't fetch Spectre configuration error either)04:29
@scrottieit'll take it a couple of minutes to get around to checking the queue04:29
gry"sit tight, 245 mails incoming"? ;-)04:29
* gry waits04:29
gryhey, it actually works :)04:30
* scrottie nods and grunts04:30
grywonder what the bets are on that google would block the email it's being sent from... (it started with marking it as spam of course)04:31
grythanks - I added the cmd to start spectre into webgui.sh04:32
@scrottiesure thing!  sorry I've been running around and not in front of the computer very solidly04:33
gryIt's ok - commercial support would fix things up for me and not welcome me to contributing, but you're doing a jolly good job at inspiring that ;)04:45
gryExplaining few internals and all04:45

@scrottieperlDreamer does the commercial support and he is way nicer than I am =)04:47

+danny_mkI have it running on my version and I am running 7.10.2723:12

+danny_mkOK, how far did you get following the instructions on github?23:14
Namdup to number 6. when i restarted apache and spectre i was looking for a helpdesk object under intranet but it was not there so i looked in the log file and see it had issues compiling. From there i went to command line and tried to execute the package to confirm that it was a compile issue. It stated "Can't locate WebGUI/Definition/Asset.pm"23:17
NamdI have multiple Asset.pm files within the data folder but i do not have a WebGUI/Definition folder23:18
+danny_mkHmmm... I don't have that either23:21
NamdFYI: All three environments have been installed fresh. None of them have been upgraded from previous versions.23:21

ckotili should do that too. im such a git noob. cvs to svn wasn't too bad. but svn to git is like learning chinease to me22:37
NamdI was trying to figure out the best way to isolate my modified code. With the pm files I have figured out how to do that but I am not sure the best method for the imports. NamdI feel like I still need to manage the data more befure using git (and wgd). I will keep disecting the code. thanks again for your help22:52
haargif you can keep your changes as entirely separate files, that's one way.  but if you are wanting to modify existing files, git is probably the best way to manage that.22:54
NamdI was planning on keeping them as seperate files that way I can upgrade webgui without wrecking any of the features22:55
haargwgd has a couple options for shipping content around too.  it can use packages, which is a built in webgui feature, or it can export its own text file format.22:56
haargas long as they actually are separate files that makes sense, and not modified copies of core files.22:56
NamdWhat do you do for your imports folder though? I made a subdirectory and was going to place everything within it. But that does not seem to work too well for generating the drop down menus for something like the style template22:59
haargit should work for that23:00
NamdI was trying to figure out how the drop down menus were being created but im not too sure im looking at the right code. I had to grep all files for "Style Template" then go back through international calls23:00
haargand you can export an entire folder as a package if you need to copy it to a separate site23:01
Namdthat was my next step :)23:01
-!- daviddelikat [~dav@adsl-71-150-253-140.dsl.mdsnwi.sbcglobal.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving.]23:01

sbauronly problem with this is stuff that should be in the extras folder.23:03

+danny_mkWhat are we using to generate unique ids in WebGUI8?  WebGUI::Session::Id states: "his module is deprecated, and will be removed during the WebGUI 8.x series."18:51
+danny_mkWill $session->id->generate still be supported in 8?18:51

qwebirc84965Hello. I have a couple of inquiries. What is the status of WebGUI 8? & Is there a Responsive theme or can you recommend a Responsive Framework.19:10
+danny_mkwhat are you calling a responsive theme?19:34
+danny_mkYou can build your own, there are a few that come "out of the box"19:34
+danny_mkI am working on one but that is going to take some time19:34

@scrottiesomeone was talking about "responsive" stuff before.  I didn't realise that this was a Thing with a capital T.21:26
@scrottieI wanted to know what wasn't responding.21:26
@scrottiesbaur sent me some links but they really didn't clear up the mystery.21:27
@scrottieI find very JS heavy apps to often be *not* pariticularly responsive.21:27
@scrottieactually, when they suggested making a "responsive website", I suggested Continuity and HTML1.0.  that *screams*.21:27
sbaurI believe this is more responsive in the sense of oh, hey, a mobile browser, let's do stuff different21:28
@scrottiedanny_mk, re: uniqe ids, let me look.21:28
@scrottieoh, hmm.21:28
+danny_mkI used $session->id->generate21:28
@scrottieI thought things were moving the other way... it used to be that there were mobile specific versions of sites, but then mobile browsers became just versions of the desktop ones, and screen resolutions caught up21:29
+danny_mka good question:  in WebGUI8, there is no way to setup the template parser for new/existing templates21:29
@scrottiehuh?21:29
@scrottiehttp://pastie.org/634944321:30
@scrottiere: ids21:30
+danny_mkCreate a new template in WebGUI8, where do you set it to use  WebGUI::Asset::Template::TemplateToolkit21:30
@scrottielooks like WebGUI::GUID is the new thing.21:30
+danny_mkyah!  got that far21:30
@scrottieI have no idea what you're talking about when you say "there is no way to setup the template parser for new/existing templates".  I'm pretty sure I've created new templates in wG8.21:31
@scrottiebe more specific about what you're trying to do and having trouble with.21:31
@scrottieand sorry to not be around much the past few days...21:31
@scrottieTempe Bike Count stuff has been *intense*21:31
@scrottieI've been on the phone and responding to email non-stop, and going to meetings, to 10-12 hours a day21:31
+danny_mkhey, at least you got a job!21:32
@scrottieno I don't.21:34
@scrottievolunteer.21:34
NamdI am trying to find an asset with a sepcific url and I am unsure where it is located within the asset tree. Does any one know what the MySQL table is that that information is located within? I tried to use the search feature within assets but had no luck :(21:38
sbaurassetData21:38
Namdthank you21:38
sbaurselect * from assetData where url  like '';21:38
NamdI was hoping some of that information would help me find where its located within the asset tree. How would you suggest I do that?21:40
sbauronce you have the asseId, use that to get the parentId from the asset table21:42
sbaurselect parentId from asset where assetId in (select assetId from assetData where url like ...);21:42
sbaurthat will give you the asset Id for the page the url in question lives on, once you have that, you can get this page's URL21:43
sbauror, the other way is to just go to the url, tack ?func=edit onto it, then use the admin console link to go to assets21:44
sbaurthat will show you where it is21:44
sbaurand if i remembered the op for manage assets, that would be the faster way to get there21:44
Namdthe second way is much easier to me22:02
Namda bit confusing tho because when i append ?func=edit to the url/file it it shows up in the edit but its pointing to a different edit22:06
Namdmaybe i am missing something major. I was questioning what the update feature in the asset list actually does? I should probably be using that huh?22:07
NamdRunning that didnt help :/22:08
NamdWhat I did was duplicated the wg-base.css and edited that to my new style sheet. When I try to save my new style sheet it wont save as the name i want it to though. It keeps appending a 2 to it (before the file extension). Then when I try to link to the original file name it keeps referring back to the orginal wg-base.css file22:11
NamdIs it safe to delete the record from assetData with that url?22:19
Namdlooks like that worked :) thanks22:24

sbaurthe old file is in (was in) and old revision, that's why you couldn't rename to it23:04
-!- danny_mk [~danny_mk@173-166-55-113-newengland.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has quit [Quit: danny_mk]23:04
sbaurUsing change URL on the asset that used to have the old name is the cleanest way to get rid of it (so when the edit opened to the "wrong" thing) you could have gone into the asset manager, done a change URL on the asset to it's current name, then it would have deleted all older revisions, and the old name would now be available for your new thing23:05
