+danny_mk | Hello everyone, I am working on a OAuth2 login module. The OAuth2 providers will be many, I would like to use some sort of dynamic datatable in which I can add a ("provider","id","secret") | 20:55 |
+danny_mk | I think the best place to put these will be under the OAuth2 settings and not the WebGUI/etc/*.conf file | 20:56 |
+danny_mk | wondering if anyone has done this before as I do not see such an element under any of the site settings | 20:58 |
+danny_mk | Hmmm... kind of like the ldap connections | 20:59 |
+danny_mk | I can use a textarea and just take one per line in a string like: "provider","id","secret" but then I have to get into parsing lines, etc... not a clean solution | 21:01 |
@scrottie | you could use a YUI data table and post JSON back, then either update all of the rows from that or else store the JSON directly in a blob | 21:08 |
@scrottie | as for OAuth and LDAP, sorry, not that familiar... | 21:08 |
+danny_mk | right, that is what I want to use, however displaying a datatable in the settings is not really done anywhere for any of the settings | 21:15 |
+danny_mk | I do not want to reinvent the wheel unless I have to | 21:16 |
+danny_mk | does preaction showup here? | 21:16 |
@scrottie | I've seen him lurking around but he has been pretty quiet. but no one has asked him direct questions recently. | 21:20 |
@scrottie | there are two kinds of people on IRC... those that have fire station like alarms that go off when their name is mentioned in any channel on any network, and those that sometimes happen to glance at their IRC client and see that they have a new privmsg | 21:21 |
+danny_mk | Well, I hope I can make it to YAPC, I have a few issues I like to discuss with the team | 21:22 |
@scrottie | I can't think of any reason why you couldn't do a YUI datatable in settings. you'd have to addExtraHeadTags to pull in the js and css you need. | 21:22 |
@scrottie | that would be awesome if everyone in this channel made it! | 21:23 |
+danny_mk | OK, do me a favor, go to the settings in your webgui installation | 21:23 |
+danny_mk | are you asking that I should change the admin user template? | 21:24 |
@scrottie | nope. you can add extra head tags with a call. | 21:25 |
+danny_mk | sorry, Admin console template | 21:25 |
+danny_mk | not sure that can be done in settings | 21:26 |
@scrottie | $session->style->extraHeadTags | 21:27 |
@scrottie | okay, have my settings screen up. | 21:27 |
+danny_mk | Look at the Authentication->LDAP->manage option | 21:28 |
+danny_mk | do you see how that takes you to another page to edit the individual ldap servers | 21:30 |
+danny_mk | something like that would work but I would prefer to have a datatable right in the settings for the authentication module | 21:31 |
+danny_mk | I guess I could do the extraHeadTags | 21:31 |
@scrottie | I don't have LDAP turned on in this install | 21:31 |
+danny_mk | OK, does not matter | 21:31 |
+danny_mk | can you see a datatable done as settings for an authentication module? | 21:32 |
@scrottie | well, as always, if you get stuck, you're welcome to post, and there's a good chance that someone here will look at it. | 21:32 |
@scrottie | I'll make the new guys do it. | 21:32 |
@scrottie | sure, why not. | 21:32 |
@scrottie | you're already writing code to generate the form and process what gets posted back, right? | 21:32 |
+danny_mk | yes | 21:33 |
@scrottie | really, I need to make some more WebGUI::Form objects. and actually, one of them might already apply. | 21:33 |
+danny_mk | do you have the Twitter module enabled? | 21:33 |
@scrottie | make h2oliu or dln help you if you get stuck ;) | 21:33 |
@scrottie | nope! | 21:33 |
+danny_mk | Well, that would be great, a dynamic datatable would be great for settings | 21:33 |
@scrottie | WebGUI and some other custom stuff for this project. | 21:33 |
+danny_mk | I want to get this module done, I may have to use a TextArea up front and then change it to a datatable later | 21:36 |
+danny_mk | Do you have a system in which you can test stuff? Once I put it on GitHub maybe you can test it. | 21:36 |
@scrottie | I haven't really gotten down a good system for switching which WebGUI install I'm using. | 21:37 |
+danny_mk | LOL, then I will show you my test system. | 21:40 |
+danny_mk | OK, thank you for the help, back to coding. Maybe I can contact preaction later. | 21:40 |

Trex_ | Good afternoon folks! Anyone here want to talk upgrade bugs? 7.9 to 7.10 | 00:37 |
Trex_ | I've got one definite bug, one possible bug (may be general API and not just upgrade), and one thing that has me stumped in general. | 00:38 |
haarg | i can give you my thoughts if you post the details | 00:39 |
Trex_ | Thanks, haarg! The first one has to do with the new metadata versioning and asset-class-context features -- which I think are totally awesome additions to WebGUI... | 00:40 |
Trex_ | When you upgrade from 7.9.34 to 7.10.22 (where metadata gets added) a new field is added to the metadata values table, but this field is not populated, giving each metadata a lastUpdated date of effectively 0. | 00:41 |
Trex_ | This causes the metadata to effectively disappear from your site, because now to find the right metadata value for an asset (both general view and editing mode), you have to match up BOTH the assetId and the lastUpdated value. | 00:42 |
Trex_ | (lastUpdated may not be the right label -- but something similar) | 00:43 |
Trex_ | Thinking about how the versioning system works, I think that when you add the additional column, you not only have to populate it for each metadata value, but you have to duplicate the metadata value for each version of the asset it's linked to, in order for version tag roll-backs and such to work properly after the upgrade. | 00:44 |

haarg | possibly, yeah | 00:45 |
Trex_ | hey there, perlDreamer. I was just describing a bug I've found in the upgrade process from 7.9 to 7.10, related to metadata versioning. Would you be interested in hearing what you just missed? Or would you rather not know. :) | 00:46 |
+perlDreamer | please file it on webgui.org/bugs | 00:46 |
Trex_ | OK, that one I think I understand well enough to go ahead and file a bug without further input, but there are a couple others that I'm less sure of. | 00:50 |
Trex_ | The second bug that has appeared is related to Thingys. It first appeared during the re-indexing process, also during the 7.9.34 to 7.10.22 upgrade (I believe), but continues to appear in the modperl.error.log whenever I try to view or edit certain Thingys. | 00:51 |
Trex_ | I'm getting errors along the line of "Bareword found where operator expected at (eval XXXX) line Y, near Z (Missing operator before Z?)" | 00:52 |
+perlDreamer | mmolidor pts/0 130.157.145.24 Mon Mar 5 12:31 - 18:24 (05:52) | 00:53 |
Trex_ | Bareword can also be replaced with Number, and Z is a label for a value in a select list (radio buttons or select element) | 00:53 |
+perlDreamer | odd | 00:53 |
+perlDreamer | I've never seen that | 00:53 |
+perlDreamer | could you send me a package of those Thingy's, or attach it to a bug? | 00:54 |
Trex_ | It appears that there's a problem parsing the newline between the multiple values when you have a Thingy form element with the value|lable format. | 00:54 |
@scrottie | bug!? in Thingy!? naaaaaw. imposible. | 00:55 |
Trex_ | I'll try. When you package a Thingy, do the data come along with? I seem to recall trying to move a Thingy between systems, and I got the structure but not the data. | 00:55 |
+perlDreamer | when you package a thing | 00:55 |
+perlDreamer | you get the Thingy, Things inside it | 00:55 |
+perlDreamer | but no data | 00:55 |
+perlDreamer | since the problem is with the form configuration in the Thing, that shouldn't be a problem | 00:56 |
+perlDreamer | and actually protects your data in this case | 00:56 |
Trex_ | OK. I'll work up another bug report in that case. And I'll see if I can create a simpler Thing to use as a demo, because the two on this system both are rather more convoluted than necessary. | 00:58 |
Trex_ | All right. One more problem I've observed with upgrading to 7.10. This I've seen on a development system I use, but not on a copy of our production WebGUI server, which our sysadmin ran through the same upgrade process... | 01:00 |
Trex_ | What I'm seeing is that apparently the wremonitor appears to be killing modperl, quite predictably. | 01:00 |
Trex_ | I'd noticed that if I started up the various WebGUI processes, things would work fine for a few minutes...and then stop. | 01:01 |
@scrottie | typical. | 01:01 |

@scrottie | change /data/wre/etc/wre.conf's entry for apache -> maxMemory | 01:01 |
Trex_ | I dug into the logfiles, and things seem to be halting as soon as the wremonitor logs that it's killed 6-7 Apache instances taking up too much memory. | 01:01 |
@scrottie | add a 0 onto the end | 01:01 |
+perlDreamer | uh, no | 01:02 |
+perlDreamer | double it | 01:02 |
+perlDreamer | and then find out what's using all your memory | 01:02 |
+perlDreamer | if you add a 0, then it won't do what it's supposed to do | 01:03 |
+perlDreamer | and kill runaways that are stuck in loops | 01:03 |
+perlDreamer | the system will get bogged down before it can kick in and save your bacon | 01:03 |
Trex_ | I saw one reference to changing the settings in modperl.pl in one of the WebGUI message boards. (doubled the values). Should I put those back and instead try the wre.conf first? | 01:04 |
+perlDreamer | what did you upgrade from? | 01:04 |
Trex_ | On this system, 7.9.20 | 01:04 |
+perlDreamer | we had a bump in memory usage in 7.8, when we added the translations by default | 01:05 |
+perlDreamer | but nothing in 7.9.20, or 7.10 | 01:05 |
Trex_ | Well, the wremonitor did its thing and stuff didn't crash, so initial indications are doubling the maxMemory helped. | 01:10 |
@scrottie | yo mama so fat, her executibles contain x86, PowerPC *and* 68k code! yaow! | 01:10 |

+perlDreamer | Trex_, are you sure that bug hasn't been reported before | 02:08 |
+perlDreamer | it looks really familiar | 02:08 |
+perlDreamer | I found this one, but it's different | 02:12 |
+perlDreamer | maybe I'm remembering an IRC conversation | 02:12 |
+perlDreamer | http://www.webgui.org/use/bugs/tracker/12259 | 02:12 |
Trex_ | Yes, that appears to be the same thing. | 02:17 |
Trex_ | I didn't pay attention to it because the "only filled by admins" part made it look irrelevant to what I was seeing. | 02:17 |
Trex_ | It's possible there is another issue that I didn't test for... | 02:18 |
Trex_ | During the upgrade, the metadata asset associations are not set, so if you go into the edit form for each metadata field, none of the asset classes are selected. | 02:19 |
Trex_ | However, when you go in to edit an asset (as an admin -- I didn't test as someone of lower privileges) you can see the metadata fields for which either ALL or NONE of the asset classes were selected. | 02:20 |

Trex_ | So, the "all or nothing" behavior for metadata asset class associations appears to work for everyone. | 02:23 |
+perlDreamer | haarg, any chance we could also get the Command/Util patch added/ | 02:24 |
+perlDreamer | or have I sent you that one yet? | 02:24 |

-!- sbaur [~Adium@130.157.145.37] has joined #webgui | 17:56
ckotil | initially i was thinking about creating a metadata field (integer) where you can enter an epoch timestamp, and then using h:t:e get today's data, and see if the expire metadata field has passed. but that didn't work out because macros in h:t:e are processed before template variables. | 17:57 |
ckotil | s/data/date/ | 17:59 |
ckotil | maybe ill just have to do this entirely within a macro. pass in the assetId of the artle, check the expire metadafield against todays date. | 18:00 |

@scrottie | re: ckotil's question, version tags have an endDate. does that actually do anything? I don't see logic for it offhand, and I've never used that. | 19:55 |
haarg | iirc it needed modifications made to the workflow for it to work | 19:56 |
ckotil | I created a macro to do it. you pass the macro the metadata field Id, and a URL (users like URLs better). it checks the that the expire time has not yet passed, and then returns a link on the page to the job posting. using asset->get("url") and asset->get("title") | 19:57 |
ckotil | this macro doesn't lend itself well to other situations. i'd like to find a more general approach to expiring content | 20:02 |
ckotil | http://pastecode.com/t7 | 20:02 |
@scrottie | WebGUI::Workflow::Activity::ArchiveOldStories may be a starting point | 20:03 |

+perlDreamer | that's not a good starting point | 20:57 |
+perlDreamer | because it only checks for archiving | 20:57 |
+perlDreamer | not for versionTag rollback | 20:57 |
+perlDreamer | the right thing to do is to look at RollbackVersionTag.pm | 20:58 |
+perlDreamer | that, and a WaitForm activity is the simple way to do it | 20:59 |
+perlDreamer | the best thing to do is have a "smart" commit workflow | 20:59 |
+perlDreamer | which schedules a cron job out in the future to roll itself back | 20:59 |
+perlDreamer | but that would require core support | 20:59 |
+perlDreamer | since if the tag is manually rolled back | 20:59 |
+perlDreamer | the cron job will puke in the future, since the tag it's supposed to remove doesn't exist | 20:59 |
ckotil | eeesh. sounds complicated. what makes using a rollback tag worse, is when you want to keep the asset, just hide it. | 21:02 |
@scrottie | that's kind of what I was thinking with suggesting starting with ArchiveOldStories. you'd be looking at a field in the asset that has the expirary date and then archiving that. one workflow activity attached to the daily workflow would look for expired posts and archive any it finds. | 21:04 |
@scrottie | that would be just ignoring version tags. | 21:04 |
@scrottie | of course, there are several ways to do it, and I'm not claiming that this is the best. it's just what occurs to me with my limited knowledge of what's available. | 21:04 |
ckotil | i like the sound of this method, for hiding article assets in a layout parent. workflow that checks a metadata field, and then marks the asset as 'hidden' for the page layout | 21:11 |
+perlDreamer | if you just want to hide it, then schedule the commit of a new revision that hides it out into the future | 21:39 |
ckotil | that's sneaky | 21:44 |
+perlDreamer | that's WebGUI :) | 21:58 |

doc_gt7 | Hello friends. I need to upload an image file from a macro. Has anyone done this or have any pointers before I reinvent the wheel? :) | 20:34 |
haarg | i can't think of any sensible way to do that | 20:38 |
haarg | macros are a display mechanism. trying to use them for other things is going to be lots of pain. | 20:38 |
doc_gt7 | I find webgui causes me lots of pain usually :) Think of a form that allows you to add a profile and upload your picture along with it. That form calls a macro which inserts the information, stores the image. This should not be that out of line.... | 20:42 |
@scrottie | doc_gt7, if you can write a Macro, you should also be able to create an Asset, right? is there an existing Asset you want to subclass and extend? | 20:48 |
@scrottie | yes, WebGUI can be a pain sometimes, but no point making the problem worse ;) | 20:48 |
haarg | assets aren't really that hard to write | 20:49 |
doc_gt7 | I have not previously created an Asset but if that is the best path I will go that way... Maybe I could modify the file pile? :) | 20:49 |
@scrottie | well, what are you trying to do? | 20:50 |
@scrottie | there's already a File asset... | 20:50 |
doc_gt7 | Think of a form that allows you to add a profile and upload your picture along with it. That form calls a macro which inserts the information, stores the image. | 20:50 |
@scrottie | File/Image | 20:50 |
@scrottie | maybe you want to modify the Account Content plug-in instead, then. | 20:51 |
@scrottie | people already have "profiles", and it's pretty common to extend those with more stuff. | 20:51 |
@scrottie | the control panel lets you add additional fields to it. I don't remember if it lets you add files. | 20:52 |
doc_gt7 | Now do new Assets have to be defined in the WebGUI/etc/domain.conf file like macros? | 20:52 |
@scrottie | WebGUI/Content/Account.pm | 20:52 |
@scrottie | doc_gt7, yes. | 20:52 |
doc_gt7 | ok | 20:52 |
@scrottie | you don't have to write an asset from scratch, either. if you find one that does almost what you want, you can subclass it. | 20:53 |
doc_gt7 | Sounds like the easiest route for sure.... | 20:53 |
@scrottie | but still, if you're making a user profile thing, maybe you want to extend WebGUI::Content::Account | 20:54 |
* haarg wishes the article asset was simpler | 20:54
haarg | would be a good starting point for people to look at | 20:54 |
haarg | but with the pagination etc, it's more complex than would work well for that | 20:55 |
doc_gt7 | I am looking at the Account asset. I guess I will make a copy of it, add it and see if I can call it, then modify it. How would call an Asset? "/pagename" ? | 20:56 |
@scrottie | doc_gt7: either way... as a Content plugin or as an Asset, you can then use WebGUI::Form::File to give the form control and process the uploaded file | 20:56 |
@scrottie | not Account asset. Account Content plug-in. | 20:56 |
@scrottie | doc_gt7: almost any time you want to copy something, instead subclass. "use base 'Whatever';", then put in only the methods that you want to change. | 20:57 |
@scrottie | doc_gt7: for assets, you'll have to have your own definition. almost all assets already subclass something else, except for WebGUI::Asset itself. | 20:57 |
@scrottie | so there are examples of that. | 20:57 |
@scrottie | the Developer's Guide shows how to create content plug-ins, I think. | 20:58 |
doc_gt7 | WebGUI::Content::Account is the one that I am looking at. I will see if I can research sub classing the existing. | 20:59 |
@scrottie | they're listed in contentHandlers in the .conf. you could subclass WebGUI::Content::Account and add more stuff to it, or you could add another content handler in addition to it. | 20:59 |
@scrottie | :q | 20:59 |
@scrottie | oops | 20:59 |
@scrottie | er, sorry, you don't want to subclass WebGUI::Content::Account, you want to make a plug-in for it. eg WebGUI::Account::Profile, WebGUI::Account::Inbox, WebGUI::Account::Network are plug-ins. | 21:01 |
@scrottie | if you have trouble, post code and I'll try to look at it, as usual. | 21:02 |
doc_gt7 | Ok, what if I wanted to do something entirely new, that does not exist, but has 7 text fields that I want to insert into a DB and 3 images that I want to store on the HD :) Plug in or Asset? | 21:03 |
doc_gt7 | I guess that expanding the profile is not really going to work for this. It would be similar but entirely separate. | 21:04 |
doc_gt7 | Possibly a "Content Handler" could do this? It says it has 2 way communication so it could display the form, submit, and handle the data... If I am reading it right. | 21:10 |
@scrottie | of course you want new fields and to store it. | 21:11 |
@scrottie | that's a given. | 21:11 |
@scrottie | if you write an WebGUI::Account plug-in, it'll be stored as part of each user's profile data. | 21:11 |
@scrottie | if you write as a WebGUI::Content plug-in, then there will really only be one for the whole system. usually stuff in those gets stored in settings. | 21:12 |
doc_gt7 | That could be useful to... because they could see their submission. | 21:12 |
@scrottie | if you write it as a WebGUI::Asset, then you can make all of them that you want, and each one has their own data, but they're not really related to users. | 21:12 |
sbaur | subclass dataform to accept image uploads? | 21:12 |
@scrottie | if users are creating profiles for themselves, you really want to make it part of their user data. | 21:12 |
@scrottie | it's possible to handle users creating assets and owning the assets they create but not the asset that contains them, but it's a bit messy. | 21:13 |
@scrottie | it's a lot less code and trouble just to do a user profile thing. | 21:13 |
@scrottie | if they're doing form posts and you want each user to be able to make a bunch, then you have to do assets. if they are only doing one, then account plug-in is fine. | 21:13 |
@scrottie | the problem with Form controls and image uploads is that they need to handle the submission as well, not just show a form control. | 21:14 |
doc_gt7 | Thank you... I think I will start with the account plug in. Each account is allowed one "submission". This may work best of all because it is right there in the profile. | 21:14 |
@scrottie | it's easy to put a Form control on a view page. it's harder to on an edit page. editSave page, forget about it. | 21:14 |
@scrottie | stuff in wG really doesn't let you specify an edit form template to use instead of auto-generating. this feature should exist, imo, but it doesn't. so a macro in a view template won't be around to capture the upload. | 21:15 |
@scrottie | doc_gt7, you're welcome, good luck, and don't be afraid to show us code. | 21:16 |
doc_gt7 | ok :) | 21:16 |

spacebat | the UI was less than ideal, 1001 plugins in a list, each with their own notions of how to lay out their controls | 02:59 |
spacebat | then he delved into the back-end to show us how to customize further, and perhaps it was made worse by the lack of syntax highlighting, but the knot of php code there made my heart sink | 03:00 |
spacebat | I know WG8 uses plack which is a step in the right direction, does it also use moose/mouse/moo? | 03:02 |

@scrottie | wG8 was rewritten to use Moose. | 04:03 |
@scrottie | wG8 was more a modernization effort than a feature-adding effort, though the new heavily JS'd admin is kind of a feature. | 04:03 |
@scrottie | most features are self-contained in "assets". wG has lots of assets but not many extensions, per se | 04:04 |

@scrottie | not familiar with that part of the system, but I'm sure it could be done with a little code. | 19:40 |
@scrottie | badges are just asset instances, right? | 19:40 |
@scrottie | so it should be a matter of inserting across a few tables. | 19:40 |
@scrottie | then committing a version tag. | 19:41 |
elnino | I'm not too familiar with this particular part of the data structure. I'm kinda fumbling around to see if I can get the EMS to work for my situation. The other question I have is do you create a new event manager for each "conference"? | 19:42 |
@scrottie | I'd ask perlDreamer about that. | 19:43 |
@scrottie | so EMSBadget just goes into the cart... | 19:44 |
@scrottie | EMSBadge, sku, assetData, asset... that looks like the chain of inheritance as it exists in the database (perl classes inherit each other, and most or all define an associated table) | 19:45 |
@scrottie | but it really only makes sense to ram things into the database when you're data recovery or something obnoxious like that. it makes a lot more sense just to use the asset constructor, if you're actually working in perl. | 19:46 |
@scrottie | (doing too much low level stuff is making me stupid) | 19:47 |
@scrottie | then you'd do: WebGUI::Asset->newByUrl( $session, '/whereever/you/want/to/put/badges/under' )->addChild( { className => 'WebGUI::Asset::Sku::EMSBadge', ... key/value pairs for whatever you see in Asset/Sku/EMSBadge.pm's definition, its parents definitions, or whatever you see in those databsae tables (same thing) }); | 19:49 |
@scrottie | then: WebGUI::VersionTag->getWorking($session)->commit; | 19:50 |
@scrottie | of course, you have to 'use' the related WebGUI modules and create a $session. /data/WebGUI/sbin/_utility.skeleton is the skeleton to a command line tool that does that. it can also be done in a few lines of code if you want to hard-code the .conf name in. I do that sometimes when I'm doing one-off utilities. | 19:52 |
@scrottie | my $session = WebGUI::Session->open('/data/WebGUI', 'whatever.com.conf'); | 19:53 |
elnino | oh my goodness. I've been away..s orry abou tthat.. 'm walking away again.. | 22:14 |
elnino | thanks scrottie, I'll read this when I'm back | 22:14 |
@scrottie | elnino, heh, that's fine =) | 22:16 |
SDuensin1 | Dang. I've been gone a long time. My WebGUI is downright ancient. | 22:22 |

SDuensin1 | "You are using 7.8.22-stable and 7.10.24-stable is available." | 22:23 |
sbaur | i still have a server on 7.5.40, so you can't call that ancient around me :-) | 22:23 |
SDuensin1 | So not like when I went from 5x to 7.x, but still bad. :-) | 22:23 |
elnino | I'm back and forth.. So, I was just looking for somethign that the user can upload badges from an excel sheet. and I'm tring to decide what a badge "really is" | 22:24 |

@scrottie | an Excel import feature would be a really good idea. | 23:13 |
elnino | I think so. =) I'll make a rfe. | 23:19 |
@scrottie | woot! | 23:23 |
elnino | I'm currently looking at a copy of the schedule template for the EMS. It uses the yahoo datagrid thing. and there are variable like: <tmpl_var dataSourceUrl>, <tmpl_var fieldList> and <tmpl_var dataColumns> where are these defined? | 23:45 |
elnino | I don't knwo where these are defined, but I fixed the template anyway. | 23:53 |
-!- SDuensin1 [~Adium@63-252-192-10.ip.mcleodusa.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving.] | 23:54
elnino | but I'd like to know if I broke it. the schedule had 4 empty columns: col2, col3, col4, col5. so I removed them. It would be great to know what information I'm missing now that I removed the last four columns. | 23:56 |
@scrottie | they would be defined in the .pm for the asset | 23:58 |

asp | hi guys.. I was wandering where can I find the latest branch of webgui ( version 8 ) ? ( the development vers) | 18:27 |
@scrottie | hi asp, http://github.com/plainblack/webgui | 19:31 |
@scrottie | and it looks like wG8 is in the 'master' branch now. | 19:32 |

doc_777 | Hello all. Writing an account plugin: I have a form that submits data to be processed. Everything is working fine except for the file upload. I have no idea where to begin on that and when I check Account::Profile.pm there is no mention of image, upload, or even file... though there is an image file in the profile. Any pointers? | 23:08 |
@scrottie | "there is an image file in the profile"... you're looking at a URL and seeing an image? | 23:20 |
@scrottie | paste code to gist.github.com or a no-paste service of your choice, or post a link to code? | 23:20 |
@scrottie | getting to be that time of year in Arizona when I need an air conditioning unit just for the laptop. | 23:22 |
doc_777 | well, the account plug in is > 500 lines. I doubt you want to plow through that. I have all the information handled and inserted into the DB but the image file uploaded I would like to place in a certain folder. I just cannot find "how" to do that... | 23:23 |
doc_777 | It is hot here to. Well, 82 in SC. | 23:23 |
doc_777 | And what I meant on the profile is that you can upload your picture... | 23:24 |
@scrottie | reading 500 lines could take a lot less time than Q&A to figure out what's going on ;) | 23:25 |
@scrottie | half here at the moment though, pardon me | 23:26 |
doc_777 | I understand :) | 23:27 |

doc_777 | Ok, here is a condensed version of what I am trying to do, so you will not have to plow through it all: git://gist.github.com/2052940.git | 23:48 |
@scrottie | well, there are a few ways you can go at this point. | 23:56 |
@scrottie | you could handle the file upload yourself using Apache::Request API. that's pretty cranky and it'll super-extra break if you ever upgrade to wG8. | 23:57 |
doc_777 | I am using the wre... but hate for it to break and probably will upgrade :) | 23:57 |
@scrottie | the other way is to use WebGUI::Form::Image and WebGUI::Storage. | 23:57 |

@scrottie | https://gist.github.com/2053055 ... there's an example from WebGUI::Asset::Sku::Ad | 00:00 |
@scrottie | it creates an instance of WebGUI::Form::Image to generate the image upload form in the view() method | 00:01 |
@scrottie | then in the www_addToCart method, it creates an instance again to process the upload | 00:01 |
doc_777 | Checking it out :) Thanks! | 00:01 |
@scrottie | WebGUI takes the upload image and puts it in "storage", giving you back a "storage location id". you can feed this to WebGUI::Storage to get to the file again. | 00:02 |
@scrottie | sure thing! you're quite welcome. | 00:02 |
@scrottie | $form is my $form = $session->form; | 00:02 |
@scrottie | in the www_addToCart routine. oops. | 00:02 |
@scrottie | both of those are short-cuts. | 00:02 |
@scrottie | you *can* do WebGUI::Form::Image->new( $session, { name => 'whatever' } )->toHtml to generate the form control HTML, but WebGUI::Form::Image($session, { name => 'whatever' }) is a short-hand | 00:04 |
doc_777 | Would that give me control on "where" to put it. My goal is to have mine own folder system with the files in it... | 00:05 |
@scrottie | likewise with $form->process('formImage', 'image'). that's shorthand for WebGUI::Form::Image->new( $session, { name => 'whatever' } )->getValue | 00:05 |
@scrottie | well, when it is just in "storage", it isn't anywhere in the asset space | 00:05 |
doc_777 | SO I will need to take it out of storage and copy it to its destination... | 00:06 |
@scrottie | you'd have to do something like... WebGUI::Asset->newByUrl( $session, 'the/url/of/the/folder/to/add/it/too' )->addChild({ className => 'WebGUI::Asset::File::Image', storageId => ...whatever storageId $form->process('formImage', 'image') came back with..., title => whatever, ) | 00:08 |
@scrottie | you don't have to copy it out of storage so much as feed the storageId to an asset you construct | 00:08 |
@scrottie | you may have to get the uploaded filename too and pass that to addChild()'s properties hash | 00:09 |
@scrottie | a storage location can contain lots of files... but your upload is just going to have one | 00:10 |
@scrottie | I'm looking at WebGUI::Asset::Wobject::GalleryAlbum's www_addFileService method | 00:12 |
@scrottie | it does this little diddy: | 00:12 |
@scrottie | my $file = $self->addChild({ className => "WebGUI::Asset::File::GalleryFile::Photo", ... }); my $storage = $file->getStorageLocation; my $filename = $storage->addFileFromFormPost('file'); | 00:13 |
@scrottie | then: $file->setFile; $file->requestAutoCommit; | 00:13 |
@scrottie | so, WebGUI::Storage has an "addFileFromFormPost" method. | 00:13 |
doc_777 | Ok, will attempt to assemble some of this. I have never scripted the file upload so its a total learning experience. :) | 00:14 |
@scrottie | docs say: addFileFromFormPost ( formVariableName, attachmentLimit ) | 00:14 |
@scrottie | cool. | 00:14 |
@scrottie | let me know how it goes. | 00:15 |
doc_777 | Oh, you will probably hear more... :) | 00:15 |
@scrottie | yeah, I'd do addFileFromFormPost() rather than $form->process('formImage', 'image') | 00:15 |
doc_777 | I am going to try that, and in fact tried it earlier, but I am unsure "where" the file went... it did not give an error. Just nothing... | 00:16 |
@scrottie | reading this, it looks like if there are multiple file uploads of the same name, it'll get the files for all of them and stick them in the same storage location. | 00:16 |
-!- kaare_ [~kaare@94.191.200.93.bredband.3.dk] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] | 00:17
doc_777 | If I could control the location that would be perfect. | 00:17 |
@scrottie | check out GalleryAlbum.pm around line 1080 | 00:17 |
doc_777 | ok | 00:17 |
@scrottie | the basic strategy there looks like: create the asset first; ask the asset what it's storage location is (and get a WebGUI::Storage object back); use the addFileFromFormPost() method on that WebGUI::Storage object to stick everything into that asset's storage location | 00:18 |
@scrottie | rather than creating an asset, just keeping the data in a profile field is an option too. not sure how this is all supposed to work, but thought I'd mention that. | 00:22 |
doc_777 | That would be a nice option to... everything else is there. Which at this point I just want to see a file uploaded to the servers hard drive. I have worked on this for days on and off :) | 00:24 |
@scrottie | the "Profile" admin in WebGUI's admin lets you add stuff to peoples profiles. you can add a field of type "file" or "image" (I think), then ... well, you shouldn't have to write any code at all, though you might want to edit the templates involved. | 00:26 |
@scrottie | you would have to write code if you wanted to show those images to other people in some way other than wG already does... | 00:27 |
@scrottie | and I don't think there's a way built in to search for other users and view their profiles, though there's logic built in for viewing other user's profiles | 00:27 |
doc_777 | The site I am working on allows users to have their "own" page on the site. They can go to their profile and I added a plug in for them to edit all the fields. Everything works fine, except for getting the images uploaded to the server. Eventually they will upload images and they will display on their page in preset locations. I would like to have my own folder system like /data/domain/imag | 00:31 |
doc_777 | es/user2/image1.jpg and not store it all in webgui. | 00:31 |

@scrottie | well, their "page" could be their profile, as visible to other people, and with a customized template. | 01:02 |
@scrottie | so it would be a matter of writing something to take the place of an image gallery or folder or whatever contains the assets now. | 01:02 |
@scrottie | there's also logic built in for "friending" people | 01:02 |
@scrottie | that can be enabled/disabled | 01:03 |
doc_777 | I have gotten the files to upload to /public/uploads/1e/b5/something/filename. I am not sure if this is a permanant location though. Is it possible to copy a file somewhere else in plug in? | 01:04 |
@scrottie | you could... but WebGUI really likes to use WebGUI::Storage... and it likes to create structures like that. | 01:05 |
@scrottie | you could muck around in the innards and change where it thinks the file is, and then use perl's rename() built-in to actually move the file. | 01:06 |
@scrottie | it's probably easier to just use WebGUI's API from other code you write to find where things are | 01:06 |
doc_777 | Webgui loves to do things its own way.. But there is a possibility that one day down the road this site might not even use webgui. It works off a seperate database and a seperate folder structure would work great in case of future changes. Webgui at the moment just provides authentication. | 01:08 |
doc_777 | Looks like Storage.pm provides a lot of cool features, including copy, so that might work :) | 01:16 |

xdanger | but I always want the new stuff =) | 02:10 |
doc_777 | At one time there were like 40 people here and I moved on to another project. When I returned most of the people I knew were gone. So I guess there was some turnover. I really like WG7. Most of what I want I do not wait for them to add but just create it... | 02:11 |
xdanger | same here (about wg7) | 02:12 |
doc_777 | I have not tried WG8 as of yet as we depend on WG7 stable for business purposes. WG7 though has a nice polished feel and things just work so I like that. | 02:12 |
doc_777 | But yea, it WG8 came out tomorrow I would load it up on something :) | 02:13 |
xdanger | Maybe the stagnation is because it's hard to exite with perl projects =) | 02:14 |
xdanger | to get people exited about them | 02:14 |
doc_777 | Perl in general is getting a bit sad... I hate to see it. I love it... But when I look at say scripts for amazon SES they have scripts for everything EXCEPT perl. | 02:14 |

@scrottie | a few people left around the same time. PlainBlack has a few businesses, but on the WebGUI side, the income comes from client contract development, and the deadlines involved in that are harder than those in releasing a version of WebGUI. | 03:40 |
@scrottie | so, wG8 was negelcted for a while. perlDreamer made time to push it out the door, kind of. not sure if he ever formally announced it or finished the wre for it, which he said was the last peice. | 03:41 |
@scrottie | I'm not crazy about the heavily JS admin either. | 03:41 |
@scrottie | YAPC will probably be the big announcement for wG8. | 03:42 |
@scrottie | and yeah, people stopped *doing* *stuff* with perl. there was a "roller sprints" event at a favorite pub of mine not long ago, where some of my crazy bike friends had set up bicycles on roller trainers and set up a computer score board attached to the speedometer built into the roller trainers, and had races with eliminations going. | 03:44 |
@scrottie | they wrote the scoreboard/elinimation/race progress visualization thing for the projector in Ruby. | 03:44 |

j_wright | what are the plans for (re)implementing postgresql support? | 14:07 |
@scrottie | j_wright, I want to, but I've been under the gun for a while. | 14:20 |
j_wright | what needs to be done? | 14:33 |
@scrottie | I'd like see most of the assets busted out into optional things that don't necessarily themselves support Postgres | 14:35 |
@scrottie | some of them are pretty gnarly and I wouldn't want to touch them, such as Thingy | 14:36 |
@scrottie | the work I do, it seems like 99% of the assets are Template, Page Layouts, or custom stuff. I'm mostly really building on top of it. | 14:37 |
@scrottie | so it seems like if the core had backends (via mix-ins, or abstract base class, or whatever) for different database systems, that would satisify what I want. | 14:37 |
@scrottie | that would leave people to make additional requests, such as "hey, make Thingy work on Postgres", which I would probably just ignore, personally, though of course people would be free to do that work ;) | 14:38 |
@scrottie | the WebGUI/Asset*pm classes would be a good place to start looking to get an idea of what's involved, but there's also Settings, the user profile stuff, and all manner of things. | 14:39 |
@scrottie | so I guess the short answer would be "everything except most of the stuff under WebGUI/Asset" | 14:41 |
j_wright | what fun, tried to see how tied up it was once, see how much work was involved. was pretty depressing | 14:44 |

specsmu | hello, anyone awake and with time for a question? | 21:57 |
@scrottie | don't ask to ask. just ask. | 21:59 |
specsmu | so I have a standalone setup, rinning I think 7.7.33. I'm about to migrate to a new server and the person I'm working with on the design side is strongly pushing for WRE. | 22:00 |
@scrottie | most of the people who are awake aren't going to unidle to say "yes, I'm awake". they'll just ignore that. but if you ask a question and they know the answer, they'll speak up. | 22:00 |
specsmu | Is there a way to migrate from one to the other? | 22:00 |
@scrottie | migrate from a source install to the wre? sure. | 22:01 |
@scrottie | it would involve dumping the database and reloading it, probably on an older version of mysql, which could take some doing. | 22:01 |
specsmu | my concern is that the last time I tried to upgrade this source install some of the perl modules needed to be regressed and I had to do source patches to nurse it to the latest version. | 22:01 |
@scrottie | if you're running a source install now, migrating to the wre doesn't seem like a step forward. the wre has rather old versions of things, and the point is to make it easy to get things up. | 22:01 |
@scrottie | yeah. getting all of the perl modules installed on top of a source or system packages perl, or on top of the wre, is a major hurdle, and you'd be tackling that one again if you went to the wre. | 22:02 |
@scrottie | ImageMagick is known not to install. | 22:02 |
specsmu | Hmm. that's a pretty compelling argument not to mess with it | 22:02 |
@scrottie | you should send the person who wants to migrate to the wre here. I'd be interested to quiz him/her about why. | 22:02 |
specsmu | I'll probably end up having to screw with it anyway, WRE or not. | 22:02 |
specsmu | I think it's because she knows where everything is there | 22:03 |
specsmu | I don't think I'm going to mess with it. It's going to be hard enough migrating this without having to deal with screwing with WRE, etc. | 22:05 |
@scrottie | in this case, I personally would be in the "don't mess with it" camp. | 22:06 |
@scrottie | breaking it and trying to fix it is going to be more work than simply figuring out how it's set up now. | 22:06 |
@scrottie | are you moving hosts? | 22:06 |
specsmu | yes | 22:06 |
specsmu | I think I might take this chance to move from /home/WebGUI to /data/WebGUI though. | 22:06 |
specsmu | one less change to make on upgrades. | 22:06 |
@scrottie | oh, right... "migrate to a new server". sorry, I'm less than half here. | 22:07 |
@scrottie | in another window. | 22:07 |
specsmu | that's ok, it's a sunday. | 22:07 |
@scrottie | in that case, the wre might make sense, since you have to do that or a source install on the new system anyway. | 22:07 |
specsmu | I'd rather not be doing this too :) | 22:07 |
@scrottie | and you're going to have to deal with database dumps and perl modules anyway | 22:07 |
specsmu | yeah, I am | 22:07 |
specsmu | there are non-webgui hosts on it though | 22:07 |
specsmu | does it install its own apache or use the system one? | 22:08 |
@scrottie | its own. | 22:09 |
@scrottie | and an old one. | 22:09 |
specsmu | hmm. not sure I like that. | 22:09 |
specsmu | last time I set up the old host, I used DSM. And spent hours frustrated because it was forcing me into its own way of doing things | 22:10 |
specsmu | "you must use courier" "you must use this and that and put things here" | 22:10 |
@scrottie | the wre benefits from and suffers from being its whole little universe with everything installed. | 22:11 |
@scrottie | and then being out of date. | 22:11 |
specsmu | this server is more than a webgui server, has wp blogs and other crap too | 22:11 |
specsmu | I think I'm going to pass. | 22:11 |
specsmu | but thanks for giving me a good reason to | 22:11 |
specsmu | if I just copy /home/WebGUI over and make sure the perl modules are right, should that be enough? | 22:12 |
@scrottie | hrm? I have no idea. I have to see the server. but, no, you still have to dump/undump the database. | 22:12 |
specsmu | well I mean on a source install perspective | 22:13 |
@scrottie | mysql, half of the time, doesn't let you dump and undump on the exact same version of the database. | 22:13 |
specsmu | of course the database has to move | 22:13 |
specsmu | oo, that'd suck | 22:13 |
@scrottie | you need the .conf files from etc in your $WEBGUI_ROOT, whereever that is, and a WebGUI install of the same version (you can upgrade before or after you move, obviously, but you can't change versions without going through the upgrade progress) | 22:14 |
specsmu | I was going to use the same version | 22:14 |
@scrottie | and the database, and modperl.conf and modproxy.conf or a hand-crafed httpd.conf with all of the important stuff in it instead | 22:14 |
specsmu | upgrading tends to be a little grottie | 22:14 |
specsmu | grotty | 22:14 |
@scrottie | heh | 22:14 |
specsmu | which sounds a lot like your nick :) | 22:14 |
@scrottie | well, upgrades *should* work and should be done. they're pretty well tested. | 22:14 |
@scrottie | haha | 22:15 |
specsmu | honestly, I got burned last time | 22:15 |
@scrottie | I guess that's what it's slang for, essentially | 22:15 |
specsmu | I upgraded from a really old version | 22:15 |
specsmu | somehow JSON changed in the middle of it | 22:15 |
specsmu | so I had to upgrade by hand through each version | 22:15 |
specsmu | took hours and hours of nursing | 22:15 |
@scrottie | yeah, I was going to say... you do have to do a test run on a clone of the site or make backups | 22:15 |
@scrottie | on the off chance that it doesn't work | 22:15 |
specsmu | I'm leaving the old site up | 22:15 |
specsmu | it's offline now, but I'm not touching it except as a data source until it gets backed up and decommed | 22:16 |
@scrottie | ugh. yech. | 22:19 |
specsmu | about to do the dump, wish me luck. | 22:21 |
@scrottie | specsmu++ | 22:23 |
specsmu | makes me wonder if it works under postgres. lol | 22:23 |
@scrottie | if you have problems loading it (check how many tables you have in the old database versus the new one... do `show tables;` at the mysql> prompt) and make sure they're all there | 22:23 |
@scrottie | ) | 22:24 |
@scrottie | ( | 22:24 |
@scrottie | ahem. | 22:24 |
@scrottie | if you're missing some, try the --complete-insert arg to mysqldump. | 22:24 |
specsmu | hmm, I would guess there's no harm in doing that by default | 22:25 |
@scrottie | it's undocumented and forces mysql to skip the extended insert they try to force on you even when you say --skip-extended-inserts. | 22:25 |
@scrottie | man I hate mysql. | 22:25 |
specsmu | use postgres at work | 22:26 |
specsmu | used to hate it but it's grown on me | 22:26 |
@scrottie | some things are a bit crufty and cranky, but the code quality is very high. | 22:26 |
specsmu | had this one customer who took a postgres dump, migrated it to mysql, then migrated THAT into access... and did it every night. | 22:26 |
@scrottie | boggle | 22:27 |
* scrottie boggles | 22:27
specsmu | I made sure to say that out loud on the phone just so my coworkers could have a laugh | 22:27 |
specsmu | "so let me get this straight..." | 22:28 |

doc_gt7 | Hello friends :) I have a question that I cannot find the answer to... When creating an account plug in, can you call the url with a var like: "domain.com?op=account;module=home&a=view" ? If so, how do you "receive" the var. Thanks ! | 20:28 |
@scrottie | doc_gt7, yup, you can. | 20:38 |
@scrottie | it's read in the normal way: $session->form->process('a') | 20:38 |
@scrottie | ; and & are the same thing in URLs. domain.com?op=account;module=home;a=view is the same as your URL above. | 20:39 |
doc_gt7 | Ah... so this will work even without the form by tagging it on the url. Perfect! Thanks a lot. | 20:40 |
@scrottie | sure thing! | 20:40 |

xdanger | hmm... there is a MAJOR problem with webgui upgrades... they stop effecting after upgrade_7.9.34-7.10.22.pl, because that file hast $toVersion = "0.0.0"; and that breaks all the upgrades after that... | 05:28 |
xdanger | almost one year, and nobody noticed? | 05:28 |
xdanger | is the community that dead? Have people on unitedknowledge and procolix moved on to somewhere else? (and where?) or don't people just upgrade their webguis? | 05:29 |
@scrottie | most people do not run anything near a recent version. | 05:50 |
@scrottie | as far as the community being dead, I have no idea. | 05:50 |
@scrottie | xdanger, thanks for the report... | 05:51 |
@scrottie | I do remember someone the other day saying upgrades derailed. bah. | 05:51 |
@scrottie | care to open a bug ticket for this and I'll fix it now and reference that? | 05:52 |
@scrottie | otherwise I can. | 05:52 |
xdanger | I'm a little sad about the whole slowdown of webgui | 05:52 |
xdanger | I already did | 05:53 |
xdanger | http://www.webgui.org/use/bugs/tracker/12346 | 05:53 |
@scrottie | wG8 took a lot of energy. | 05:53 |
xdanger | It chopped my description, but it's in the first comment | 05:53 |
@scrottie | I've heard that it always does that. | 05:53 |
@scrottie | there's a replacement for the bug board, probably in frodwith's github thingie | 05:54 |
xdanger | I really like the server end and developmental features of webgui. But I don't like the fact that there isn't anymore activity, even JT has moved on to "better" projects.. | 05:55 |
xdanger | I don't like the themes (or styles), or the admin interface, be it old or new wg8 | 05:56 |
@scrottie | preachin' to the choir. | 05:56 |
@scrottie | but development on wG8 was furious. I'll disagree there. | 05:56 |
@scrottie | preaction was working on it full time, for years. | 05:56 |
@scrottie | it's been several months since he left and development was back to spare time of other people. | 05:57 |
xdanger | Oh, yeah.. I liked that, it was fun to follow | 05:57 |
@scrottie | I'd love to see better themes and a completely different admin (perhaps pluggable) in wG8. | 05:58 |
xdanger | I learned a lot about what was comming to wg8 by follow github commits | 05:58 |
xdanger | following | 05:58 |
@scrottie | trying to think how to put this. wG8 was a fat baby. now the mother is exhausted and a bit bed ridden. | 05:58 |
@scrottie | it was a strategic blunder to try to do so much in one release, and take so long to do it. | 05:58 |
@scrottie | re: the admin and themes, patches welcome! | 05:59 |
xdanger | On the other hand, Moose + plack was needed | 05:59 |
@scrottie | yeah. modernization and clean up in general was badly needed. | 05:59 |
xdanger | I'm not a fan of the new js heavy admin in wg8 | 05:59 |
xdanger | I't great if it works 100% of the time, but it sucks if it doesn't work on 1% of my clients time... | 06:00 |
@scrottie | I'm not a fan of the new admin and I've heard perlDreamer say that he isn't either. I could see where some people would like it. | 06:01 |
xdanger | The old isn't good either | 06:02 |
@scrottie | I don't use the UI much. almost all of my work is in the database, vi, and with wgd. | 06:03 |
xdanger | btw. I upgraded yui to lates bugfix release 2.9.0 and that fixed a problem my client was having with some js stuff... also tinymce upgraded to latest.. seems to work =D | 06:03 |
@scrottie | xdanger, you should fork plainblack/webgui on github, commit those changes to there, and then send a pull request! | 06:03 |
@scrottie | share your work. | 06:04 |
@scrottie | just delete the .php examples that come with yui before you commit. having those in the static files is a potential security problem. | 06:04 |
xdanger | But I don't have the resources to test it properly | 06:04 |
xdanger | I did | 06:04 |
xdanger | I deleted also the examples and docs | 06:05 |
@scrottie | well, we aren't going to stick to old versions of those things, so if they cause things to break, then they need to be fixed anyway. | 06:05 |
xdanger | I've maintained my own fork for years | 06:05 |
xdanger | git has made it much easier =) | 06:05 |
@scrottie | today is the day that you become a contributor, xdanger. | 06:05 |
xdanger | I've contributed already ;) | 06:05 |
xdanger | just look at the credits.txt ;) | 06:06 |
@scrottie | heh. | 06:06 |
@scrottie | sorry ;) | 06:06 |
@scrottie | I think we're on pull request #8 or so on github. | 06:07 |
@scrottie | we don't get a lot. | 06:07 |
@scrottie | or haven't recently. | 06:08 |
xdanger | I just don't have that much time. I'd like to help more, but webgui core is hard to get into | 06:08 |
@scrottie | wG8 needed continious integration, I guess. | 06:08 |
@scrottie | I feel that way about perl 5 itself. I'd love to hack on it, but taking two steps in the door makes my head spin. | 06:08 |
@scrottie | instead, I vaguely poke at it with Inline::C and B::Generate | 06:08 |
xdanger | :) | 06:08 |
@scrottie | I expect there will be a big wG8 unvieling at YAPC. JT was actually working on the wre for wG8 for a month or two there. | 06:10 |
CIA-43 | webgui: Scott Walters webgui-7.10 * rd4f63b2 / (2 files in 2 dirs): fixed #12346: toVersion in upgrade_7.9.34-7.10.22.pl was "0.0.0" - http://git.io/qIi6Ug | 06:14 |
@scrottie | xdanger++ | 06:14 |
@scrottie | if you're set up to easily do so, can you test that for me? | 06:14 |
@scrottie | my dev machine is up to its eyeballs with an old version. | 06:14 |
xdanger | sure | 06:14 |
xdanger | The problem is that I've already upgraded to version "0.0.0" | 06:15 |
xdanger | I don't have 7.9.24 anymore | 06:15 |
xdanger | .34 that is | 06:15 |
xdanger | I'm running update webguiVersion set webguiVersion = '7.10.22' where webguiVersion = '0.0.0'; for my dbs at the moment =) | 06:16 |
@scrottie | eek. | 06:17 |
xdanger | wgd needs to have function for running sql on all sites ;) | 06:21 |
@scrottie | doesn't it? | 06:29 |
@scrottie | you get more help from wgd when you don't ask for it. | 06:30 |
@scrottie | (wgd vs wgd --help ) | 06:30 |
@scrottie | wgd for-each --exec="wgd db -e 'select count(*) from settings;'" | 06:33 |
xdanger | ok =D | 06:35 |
xdanger | I really haven't mastered the wgd yet | 06:35 |
@scrottie | one of our guys has a fork of wgd that takes an IP address and modifies the session for that IP address so that it lives forever and is the admin user. | 06:44 |
@scrottie | that's awesome when you don't want to change the admin password on someone else's site. | 06:45 |
@scrottie | I've got a fork that adds an ASCII art recursive tree view to wgd ls | 06:45 |
@scrottie | haarg is a bit conservative about accepting patches ;) | 06:46 |
xdanger | ok, nice... wgd db -l "loads a sql script" but it dumps the db before that =D Maybe I just misunderstood that.. | 06:50 |
@scrottie | that's odd. | 06:51 |
@scrottie | and probably a bug. | 06:51 |
xdanger | I'm just installing the Facebook auth, that you never released for webgui7 =) | 06:52 |
-!- daviddelikat1 [~dav@adsl-75-42-235-189.dsl.mdsnwi.sbcglobal.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving.] | 06:56
haarg | main wgd has a thing to check your cookies and create an admin session for you. not sure how well that works anymore. | 08:54 |
haarg | there's a reason -l clears the database before importing, but it may not be the best reason in the world | 08:55 |
haarg | part of it is that wgd db < blah.sql generally works well for running random sql scripts, and when creating db -l i wanted something to create a clean db | 08:56 |
haarg | as for the tree thing, iirc it didn't play all that well with the other options which is why i didn't want to include it as is | 08:56 |
@scrottie | haaaaaaaarg. | 08:56 |
haarg | o/ | 08:57 |

@scrottie | qwebirc, what do you wanna know? | 00:20 |
@scrottie | perlDreamer tagged an 8.0.0 | 00:20 |
@scrottie | I don't know if he considers the wre for it done or not | 00:20 |
@scrottie | 8.x lives in the 'master' branch of git now | 00:20 |
@scrottie | testing/features/improves/bug fixes/feedback are always welcome | 00:21 |
@scrottie | and, likewise, there's usually someone here to help you with stuff =) | 00:21 |
@scrottie | I'm guessing (and this is just my prediction) that 8.0 will be formally unvieled at YAPC | 00:21 |
@scrottie | most of the people who run WebGUI like their stodgy, old, stable versions so new versions just aren't something that people get excited about. | 00:22 |
