+danny_mkHello everyone, I am working on a OAuth2 login module.  The OAuth2 providers will be many, I would like to use some sort of dynamic datatable in which I can add a ("provider","id","secret")20:55
+danny_mkI think the best place to put these will be under the OAuth2 settings and not the WebGUI/etc/*.conf file20:56
+danny_mkwondering if anyone has done this before as I do not see such an element under any of the site settings20:58
+danny_mkHmmm... kind of like the ldap connections20:59
+danny_mkI can use a textarea and just take one per line in a string like:  "provider","id","secret" but then I have to get into parsing lines, etc... not a clean solution21:01
@scrottieyou could use a YUI data table and post JSON back, then either update all of the rows from that or else store the JSON directly in a blob21:08
@scrottieas for OAuth and LDAP, sorry, not that familiar...21:08
+danny_mkright, that is what I want to use, however displaying a datatable in the settings is not really done anywhere for any of the settings21:15
+danny_mkI do not want to reinvent the wheel unless I have to21:16
+danny_mkdoes preaction showup here?21:16
@scrottieI've seen him lurking around but he has been pretty quiet.  but no one has asked him direct questions recently.21:20
@scrottiethere are two kinds of people on IRC... those that have fire station like alarms that go off when their name is mentioned in any channel on any network, and those that sometimes happen to glance at their IRC client and see that they have a new privmsg21:21
+danny_mkWell, I hope I can make it to YAPC, I have a few issues I like to discuss with the team21:22
@scrottieI can't think of any reason why you couldn't do a YUI datatable in settings.  you'd have to addExtraHeadTags to pull in the js and css you need.21:22
@scrottiethat would be awesome if everyone in this channel made it!21:23
+danny_mkOK, do me a favor, go to the settings in your webgui installation21:23
+danny_mkare you asking that I should change the admin user template?21:24
@scrottienope.  you can add extra head tags with a call.21:25
+danny_mksorry, Admin console template21:25
+danny_mknot sure that can be done in settings21:26
@scrottie$session->style->extraHeadTags21:27
@scrottieokay, have my settings screen up.21:27
+danny_mkLook at the Authentication->LDAP->manage option21:28
+danny_mkdo you see how that takes you to another page to edit the individual ldap servers21:30
+danny_mksomething like that would work but I would prefer to have a datatable right in the settings for the authentication module21:31
+danny_mkI guess I could do the extraHeadTags 21:31
@scrottieI don't have LDAP turned on in this install21:31
+danny_mkOK, does not matter21:31
+danny_mkcan you see a datatable done as settings for an authentication module?21:32
@scrottiewell, as always, if you get stuck, you're welcome to post, and there's a good chance that someone here will look at it.21:32
@scrottieI'll make the new guys do it.21:32
@scrottiesure, why not.21:32
@scrottieyou're already writing code to generate the form and process what gets posted back, right?21:32
+danny_mkyes21:33
@scrottiereally, I need to make some more WebGUI::Form objects.  and actually, one of them might already apply.21:33
+danny_mkdo you have the Twitter module enabled?21:33
@scrottiemake h2oliu or dln help you if you get stuck ;)21:33
@scrottienope!21:33
+danny_mkWell, that would be great, a dynamic datatable would be great for settings21:33
@scrottieWebGUI and some other custom stuff for this project.21:33
+danny_mkI want to get this module done, I may have to use a TextArea up front and then change it to a datatable later21:36
+danny_mkDo you have a system in which you can test stuff?  Once I put it on GitHub maybe you can test it.21:36
@scrottieI haven't really gotten down a good system for switching which WebGUI install I'm using.21:37
+danny_mkLOL, then I will show you my test system.21:40
+danny_mkOK, thank you for the help, back to coding.  Maybe I can contact preaction later.21:40

Trex_Good afternoon folks! Anyone here want to talk upgrade bugs? 7.9 to 7.1000:37
Trex_I've got one definite bug, one possible bug (may be general API and not just upgrade), and one thing that has me stumped in general.00:38
haargi can give you my thoughts if you post the details00:39
Trex_Thanks, haarg! The first one has to do with the new metadata versioning and asset-class-context features -- which I think are totally awesome additions to WebGUI...00:40
Trex_When you upgrade from 7.9.34 to 7.10.22 (where metadata gets added) a new field is added to the metadata values table, but this field is not populated, giving each metadata a lastUpdated date of effectively 0.00:41
Trex_This causes the metadata to effectively disappear from your site, because now to find the right metadata value for an asset (both general view and editing mode), you have to match up BOTH the assetId and the lastUpdated value.00:42
Trex_(lastUpdated may not be the right label -- but something similar)00:43
Trex_Thinking about how the versioning system works, I think that when you add the additional column, you not only have to populate it for each metadata value, but you have to duplicate the metadata value for each version of the asset it's linked to, in order for version tag roll-backs and such to work properly after the upgrade.00:44

haargpossibly, yeah00:45
Trex_hey there, perlDreamer. I was just describing a bug I've found in the upgrade process from 7.9 to 7.10, related to metadata versioning. Would you be interested in hearing what you just missed? Or would you rather not know. :)00:46
+perlDreamerplease file it on webgui.org/bugs00:46
Trex_OK, that one I think I understand well enough to go ahead and file a bug without further input, but there are a couple others that I'm less sure of.00:50
Trex_The second bug that has appeared is related to Thingys. It first appeared during the re-indexing process, also during the 7.9.34 to 7.10.22 upgrade (I believe), but continues to appear in the modperl.error.log whenever I try to view or edit certain Thingys.00:51
Trex_I'm getting errors along the line of "Bareword found where operator expected at (eval XXXX) line Y, near Z     (Missing operator before Z?)"00:52
+perlDreamermmolidor pts/0        130.157.145.24   Mon Mar  5 12:31 - 18:24  (05:52)00:53
Trex_Bareword can also be replaced with Number, and Z is a label for a value in a select list (radio buttons or select element)00:53
+perlDreamerodd00:53
+perlDreamerI've never seen that00:53
+perlDreamercould you send me a package of those Thingy's, or attach it to a bug?00:54
Trex_It appears that there's a problem parsing the newline between the multiple values when you have a Thingy form element with the value|lable format.00:54
@scrottiebug!?  in Thingy!?  naaaaaw.  imposible.00:55
Trex_I'll try. When you package a Thingy, do the data come along with? I seem to recall trying to move a Thingy between systems, and I got the structure but not the data.00:55
+perlDreamerwhen you package a thing00:55
+perlDreameryou get the Thingy, Things inside it00:55
+perlDreamerbut no data00:55
+perlDreamersince the problem is with the form configuration in the Thing, that shouldn't be a problem00:56
+perlDreamerand actually protects your data in this case00:56
Trex_OK. I'll work up another bug report in that case. And I'll see if I can create a simpler Thing to use as a demo, because the two on this system both are rather more convoluted than necessary.00:58
Trex_All right. One more problem I've observed with upgrading to 7.10. This I've seen on a development system I use, but not on a copy of our production WebGUI server, which our sysadmin ran through the same upgrade process...01:00
Trex_What I'm seeing is that apparently the wremonitor appears to be killing modperl, quite predictably.01:00
Trex_I'd noticed that if I started up the various WebGUI processes, things would work fine for a few minutes...and then stop.01:01
@scrottietypical.01:01

@scrottiechange /data/wre/etc/wre.conf's entry for apache -> maxMemory01:01
Trex_I dug into the logfiles, and things seem to be halting as soon as the wremonitor logs that it's killed 6-7 Apache instances taking up too much memory.01:01
@scrottieadd a 0 onto the end01:01
+perlDreameruh, no01:02
+perlDreamerdouble it01:02
+perlDreamerand then find out what's using all your memory01:02
+perlDreamerif you add a 0, then it won't do what it's supposed to do01:03
+perlDreamerand kill runaways that are stuck in loops01:03
+perlDreamerthe system will get bogged down before it can kick in and save your bacon01:03
Trex_I saw one reference to changing the settings in modperl.pl in one of the WebGUI message boards. (doubled the values). Should I put those back and instead try the wre.conf first?01:04
+perlDreamerwhat did you upgrade from?01:04
Trex_On this system, 7.9.2001:04
+perlDreamerwe had a bump in memory usage in 7.8, when we added the translations by default01:05
+perlDreamerbut nothing in 7.9.20, or 7.1001:05
Trex_Well, the wremonitor did its thing and stuff didn't crash, so initial indications are doubling the maxMemory helped.01:10
@scrottieyo mama so fat, her executibles contain x86, PowerPC *and* 68k code!  yaow!01:10

Trex_First bug report filled: http://www.webgui.org/use/bugs/tracker/1233901:32
Trex_If I'm the first to notice this, then it would seem no one who uses metadata on their sites to a significant extent has attempted the 7.9 to 7.10 upgrade yet.01:33
+perlDreamermetadata is not a commonly used WebGUI feature01:34

Trex_And yet, it's a very useful way of extending WebGUI without having to create totally new assets!01:35
+perlDreameryes01:35
Trex_I was quite happy to learn about the versioning and asset class associations that were added in 7.1001:35
Trex_Now I just have to be able to upgrade to where i can make use of the new capabilities. :)01:36
+perlDreamerTrex_, are you sure that bug hasn't been reported before02:08
+perlDreamerit looks really familiar02:08
+perlDreamerI found this one, but it's different02:12
+perlDreamermaybe I'm remembering an IRC conversation02:12
+perlDreamerhttp://www.webgui.org/use/bugs/tracker/1225902:12
Trex_Yes, that appears to be the same thing.02:17
Trex_I didn't pay attention to it because the "only filled by admins" part made it look irrelevant to what I was seeing.02:17
Trex_It's possible there is another issue that I didn't test for...02:18
Trex_During the upgrade, the metadata asset associations are not set, so if you go into the edit form for each metadata field, none of the asset classes are selected.02:19
Trex_However, when you go in to edit an asset (as an admin -- I didn't test as someone of lower privileges) you can see the metadata fields for which either ALL or NONE of the asset classes were selected.02:20

ckotilAnyone have a good way to expire an article asset? 17:55
-!- sbaur [~Adium@130.157.145.37] has joined #webgui17:56
ckotilinitially i was thinking about creating a metadata field (integer) where you can enter an epoch timestamp, and then using h:t:e get today's data, and see if the expire metadata field has passed. but that didn't work out because macros in h:t:e are processed before template variables.17:57
ckotils/data/date/17:59
ckotilmaybe ill just have to do this entirely within a macro. pass in the assetId of the artle, check the expire metadafield against todays date.18:00

@scrottiere: ckotil's question, version tags have an endDate.  does that actually do anything?  I don't see logic for it offhand, and I've never used that.19:55
haargiirc it needed modifications made to the workflow for it to work19:56
ckotilI created a macro to do it. you pass the macro the metadata field Id, and a URL (users like URLs better). it checks the that the expire time has not yet passed, and then returns a link on the page to the job posting. using asset->get("url") and asset->get("title")19:57
ckotilthis macro doesn't lend itself well to other situations. i'd like to find a more general approach to expiring content20:02

+perlDreamerthat's not a good starting point20:57
+perlDreamerbecause it only checks for archiving20:57
+perlDreamernot for versionTag rollback20:57
+perlDreamerthe right thing to do is to look at RollbackVersionTag.pm20:58
+perlDreamerthat, and a WaitForm activity is the simple way to do it20:59
+perlDreamerthe best thing to do is have a "smart" commit workflow20:59
+perlDreamerwhich schedules a cron job out in the future to roll itself back20:59
+perlDreamerbut that would require core support20:59
+perlDreamersince if the tag is manually rolled back20:59
+perlDreamerthe cron job will puke in the future, since the tag it's supposed to remove doesn't exist20:59
ckotileeesh. sounds complicated. what makes using a rollback tag worse, is when you want to keep the asset, just hide it.21:02
@scrottiethat's kind of what I was thinking with suggesting starting with ArchiveOldStories.  you'd be looking at a field in the asset that has the expirary date and then archiving that.  one workflow activity attached to the daily workflow would look for expired posts and archive any it finds.21:04
@scrottiethat would be just ignoring version tags.21:04
@scrottieof course, there are several ways to do it, and I'm not claiming that this is the best.  it's just what occurs to me with my limited knowledge of what's available.21:04
ckotili like the sound of this method, for hiding article assets in a layout parent. workflow that checks a metadata field, and then marks the asset as 'hidden' for the page layout21:11
+perlDreamerif you just want to hide it, then schedule the commit of a new revision that hides it out into the future21:39
ckotilthat's sneaky21:44
+perlDreamerthat's WebGUI :)21:58

doc_gt7Hello friends. I need to upload an image file from a macro.  Has anyone done this or have any pointers before I reinvent the wheel?  :) 20:34
haargi can't think of any sensible way to do that20:38
haargmacros are a display mechanism.  trying to use them for other things is going to be lots of pain.20:38
doc_gt7I find webgui causes me lots of pain usually  :)   Think of a form that allows you to add a profile and upload your picture along with it.  That form calls a macro which inserts the information, stores the image.  This should not be that out of line....  20:42
@scrottiedoc_gt7, if you can write a Macro, you should also be able to create an Asset, right?  is there an existing Asset you want to subclass and extend?20:48
@scrottieyes, WebGUI can be a pain sometimes, but no point making the problem worse ;)20:48
haargassets aren't really that hard to write20:49
doc_gt7I have not previously created an Asset but if that is the best path I will go that way... Maybe I could modify the file pile?   :)20:49
@scrottiewell, what are you trying to do?20:50
@scrottiethere's already a File asset...20:50
doc_gt7 Think of a form that allows you to add a profile and upload your picture along with it.  That form calls a macro which inserts the information, stores the image. 20:50
@scrottieFile/Image20:50
@scrottiemaybe you want to modify the Account Content plug-in instead, then.20:51
@scrottiepeople already have "profiles", and it's pretty common to extend those with more stuff.20:51
@scrottiethe control panel lets you add additional fields to it.  I don't remember if it lets you add files.20:52
doc_gt7Now do new Assets have to be defined in the WebGUI/etc/domain.conf file like macros?20:52
@scrottieWebGUI/Content/Account.pm20:52
@scrottiedoc_gt7, yes.20:52
doc_gt7ok20:52
@scrottieyou don't have to write an asset from scratch, either.  if you find one that does almost what you want, you can subclass it.20:53
doc_gt7Sounds like the easiest route for sure....20:53
@scrottiebut still, if you're making a user profile thing, maybe you want to extend WebGUI::Content::Account20:54
* haarg wishes the article asset was simpler20:54
haargwould be a good starting point for people to look at20:54
haargbut with the pagination etc, it's more complex than would work well for that20:55
doc_gt7I am looking at the Account asset. I guess I will make a copy of it, add it and see if I can call it, then modify it.  How would call an Asset?  "/pagename"   ?20:56
@scrottiedoc_gt7:  either way... as a Content plugin or as an Asset, you can then use WebGUI::Form::File to give the form control and process the uploaded file20:56
@scrottienot Account asset.  Account Content plug-in.20:56
@scrottiedoc_gt7:  almost any time you want to copy something, instead subclass.  "use base 'Whatever';", then put in only the methods that you want to change.20:57
@scrottiedoc_gt7:  for assets, you'll have to have your own definition.  almost all assets already subclass something else, except for WebGUI::Asset itself.20:57
@scrottieso there are examples of that.20:57
@scrottiethe Developer's Guide shows how to create content plug-ins, I think.20:58
doc_gt7 WebGUI::Content::Account is the one that I am looking at.   I will see if I can research sub classing the existing. 20:59
@scrottiethey're listed in contentHandlers in the .conf.  you could subclass WebGUI::Content::Account and add more stuff to it, or you could add another content handler in addition to it.20:59
@scrottie:q20:59
@scrottieoops20:59
@scrottieer, sorry, you don't want to subclass WebGUI::Content::Account, you want to make a plug-in for it.  eg WebGUI::Account::Profile, WebGUI::Account::Inbox, WebGUI::Account::Network are plug-ins.21:01
@scrottieif you have trouble, post code and I'll try to look at it, as usual.21:02
doc_gt7Ok, what if I wanted to do something entirely new, that does not exist, but has 7 text fields that I want to insert into a DB and 3 images that I want to store on the HD  :)   Plug in or Asset?21:03
doc_gt7I guess that expanding the profile is not really going to work for this. It would be similar but entirely separate. 21:04
doc_gt7Possibly a "Content Handler" could do this? It says it has 2 way communication so it could display the form, submit, and handle the data...  If I am reading it right.21:10
@scrottieof course you want new fields and to store it.21:11
@scrottiethat's a given.21:11
@scrottieif you write an WebGUI::Account plug-in, it'll be stored as part of each user's profile data.21:11
@scrottieif you write as a WebGUI::Content plug-in, then there will really only be one for the whole system.  usually stuff in those gets stored in settings.21:12
doc_gt7That could be useful to... because they could see their submission.  21:12
@scrottieif you write it as a WebGUI::Asset, then you can make all of them that you want, and each one has their own data, but they're not really related to users.21:12
sbaursubclass dataform to accept image uploads?21:12
@scrottieif users are creating profiles for themselves, you really want to make it part of their user data.21:12
@scrottieit's possible to handle users creating assets and owning the assets they create but not the asset that contains them, but it's a bit messy.21:13
@scrottieit's a lot less code and trouble just to do a user profile thing.21:13
@scrottieif they're doing form posts and you want each user to be able to make a bunch, then you have to do assets.  if they are only doing one, then account plug-in is fine.21:13
@scrottiethe problem with Form controls and image uploads is that they need to handle the submission as well, not just show a form control.21:14
doc_gt7Thank you... I think I will start with the account plug in. Each account is allowed one "submission".   This may work best of all because it is right there in the profile. 21:14
@scrottieit's easy to put a Form control on a view page.  it's harder to on an edit page.  editSave page, forget about it.21:14
@scrottiestuff in wG really doesn't let you specify an edit form template to use instead of auto-generating.  this feature should exist, imo, but it doesn't.  so a macro in a view template won't be around to capture the upload.21:15
@scrottiedoc_gt7, you're welcome, good luck, and don't be afraid to show us code.21:16
doc_gt7ok :)21:16

@scrottiespacebat, yup!02:21
@scrottiehttp://github.com/plainblack/webgui02:21
@scrottieI'm told that wG8 development is in the 'master' branch now02:21
@scrottiespacebat, it comes with install instructions, but there's one point a lot of people get hung up on.  make sure the upgrades run.  it should take a while and generate a bunch of output.  and yes, you do have to run upgrades on a new install.  unless things changed while I was doing other things, it ships with a wG7 database image and upgrades it.02:24

spacebatscrottie: thanks!02:57
spacebatI went to a tech talk recently and a guy was showing us some custom menu plugins for drupal02:58
spacebatthe UI was less than ideal, 1001 plugins in a list, each with their own notions of how to lay out their controls02:59
spacebatthen he delved into the back-end to show us how to customize further, and perhaps it was made worse by the lack of syntax highlighting, but the knot of php code there made my heart sink03:00
spacebatI know WG8 uses plack which is a step in the right direction, does it also use moose/mouse/moo?03:02

@scrottiespacebad, sorry, forgot about this window04:03
@scrottiewG8 was rewritten to use Moose.04:03
@scrottiewG8 was more a modernization effort than a feature-adding effort, though the new heavily JS'd admin is kind of a feature.04:03
@scrottiemost features are self-contained in "assets".  wG has lots of assets but not many extensions, per se04:04

@scrottienot familiar with that part of the system, but I'm sure it could be done with a little code.19:40
@scrottiebadges are just asset instances, right?19:40
@scrottieso it should be a matter of inserting across a few tables.19:40
@scrottiethen committing a version tag.19:41
elninoI'm not too familiar with this particular part of the data structure. I'm kinda fumbling around to see if I can get the EMS to work for my situation. The other question I have is do you create a new event manager for each "conference"?19:42
@scrottieI'd ask perlDreamer about that.19:43
@scrottieso EMSBadget just goes into the cart...19:44
@scrottieEMSBadge, sku, assetData, asset... that looks like the chain of inheritance as it exists in the database (perl classes inherit each other, and most or all define an associated table)19:45
@scrottiebut it really only makes sense to ram things into the database when you're data recovery or something obnoxious like that.  it makes a lot more sense just to use the asset constructor, if you're actually working in perl.19:46
@scrottie(doing too much low level stuff is making me stupid)19:47
@scrottiethen you'd do:  WebGUI::Asset->newByUrl( $session, '/whereever/you/want/to/put/badges/under' )->addChild( { className => 'WebGUI::Asset::Sku::EMSBadge', ... key/value pairs for whatever you see in Asset/Sku/EMSBadge.pm's definition, its parents definitions, or whatever you see in those databsae tables (same thing) });19:49
@scrottiethen:  WebGUI::VersionTag->getWorking($session)->commit;19:50
@scrottieof course, you have to 'use' the related WebGUI modules and create a $session.  /data/WebGUI/sbin/_utility.skeleton is the skeleton to a command line tool that does that.  it can also be done in a few lines of code if you want to hard-code the .conf name in.  I do that sometimes when I'm doing one-off utilities.19:52
@scrottiemy $session = WebGUI::Session->open('/data/WebGUI', 'whatever.com.conf');19:53
elninooh my goodness. I've been away..s orry abou tthat.. 'm walking away again.. 22:14

SDuensin1Dang.  I've been gone a long time.  My WebGUI is downright ancient.22:22

SDuensin1So not like when I went from 5x to 7.x, but still bad.   :-)22:23
elninoI'm back and forth.. So, I was just looking for somethign that the user can upload badges from an excel sheet. and I'm tring to decide what a badge "really is"22:24

doc_777Hello all. Writing an account plugin: I have a form that submits data to be processed. Everything is working fine except for the file upload. I have no idea where to begin on that and when I check Account::Profile.pm there is no mention of image, upload, or even file... though there is an image file in the profile. Any pointers?23:08
@scrottie"there is an image file in the profile"... you're looking at a URL and seeing an image?23:20
@scrottiepaste code to gist.github.com or a no-paste service of your choice, or post a link to code?23:20
@scrottiegetting to be that time of year in Arizona when I need an air conditioning unit just for the laptop.23:22
doc_777well, the account plug in is > 500 lines. I doubt you want to plow through that. I have all the information handled and inserted into the DB but the image file uploaded I would like to place in a certain folder. I just cannot find "how" to do that...23:23
doc_777It is hot here to. Well, 82 in SC.23:23
doc_777And what I meant on the profile is that you can upload your picture... 23:24
@scrottiereading 500 lines could take a lot less time than Q&A to figure out what's going on ;)23:25
@scrottiehalf here at the moment though, pardon me23:26
doc_777I understand :)23:27
-!- mducharme-work [~nothing@206.188.121.4] has joined #webgui23:41
doc_777Ok, here is a condensed version of what I am trying to do, so you will not have to plow through it all:  git://gist.github.com/2052940.git23:48
@scrottiewell, there are a few ways you can go at this point.23:56
@scrottieyou could handle the file upload yourself using Apache::Request API.  that's pretty cranky and it'll super-extra break if you ever upgrade to wG8.23:57
doc_777I am using the wre... but hate for it to break and probably will upgrade :)23:57
@scrottiethe other way is to use WebGUI::Form::Image and WebGUI::Storage.23:57
--- Day changed Sat Mar 17 2012

@scrottiehttps://gist.github.com/2053055 ... there's an example from WebGUI::Asset::Sku::Ad00:00
@scrottieit creates an instance of WebGUI::Form::Image to generate the image upload form in the view() method00:01
@scrottiethen in the www_addToCart method, it creates an instance again to process the upload00:01
doc_777Checking it out :)  Thanks!00:01
@scrottieWebGUI takes the upload image and puts it in "storage", giving you back a "storage location id".  you can feed this to WebGUI::Storage to get to the file again.00:02
@scrottiesure thing!  you're quite welcome.00:02
@scrottie$form is     my $form    = $session->form;00:02
@scrottiein the www_addToCart routine.  oops.00:02
@scrottieboth of those are short-cuts.00:02
@scrottieyou *can* do WebGUI::Form::Image->new( $session, { name => 'whatever' } )->toHtml  to generate the form control HTML, but WebGUI::Form::Image($session, { name => 'whatever' }) is a short-hand00:04
doc_777Would that give me control on "where" to put it. My goal is to have mine own folder system with the files in it...00:05
@scrottielikewise with $form->process('formImage', 'image').  that's shorthand for WebGUI::Form::Image->new( $session, { name => 'whatever' } )->getValue00:05
@scrottiewell, when it is just in "storage", it isn't anywhere in the asset space00:05
doc_777SO I will need to take it out of storage and copy it to its destination... 00:06
@scrottieyou'd have to do something like... WebGUI::Asset->newByUrl( $session, 'the/url/of/the/folder/to/add/it/too' )->addChild({ className => 'WebGUI::Asset::File::Image', storageId => ...whatever storageId $form->process('formImage', 'image') came back with..., title => whatever, )00:08
@scrottieyou don't have to copy it out of storage so much as feed the storageId to an asset you construct00:08
@scrottieyou may have to get the uploaded filename too and pass that to addChild()'s properties hash00:09
@scrottiea storage location can contain lots of files... but your upload is just going to have one00:10
@scrottieI'm looking at WebGUI::Asset::Wobject::GalleryAlbum's www_addFileService method00:12
@scrottieit does this little diddy:00:12
@scrottiemy $file = $self->addChild({ className       => "WebGUI::Asset::File::GalleryFile::Photo", ... }); my $storage = $file->getStorageLocation; my $filename = $storage->addFileFromFormPost('file'); 00:13
@scrottiethen: $file->setFile; $file->requestAutoCommit;00:13
@scrottieso, WebGUI::Storage has an "addFileFromFormPost" method.00:13
doc_777Ok, will attempt to assemble some of this. I have never scripted the file upload so its a total learning experience. :)00:14
@scrottiedocs say:  addFileFromFormPost ( formVariableName, attachmentLimit )00:14
@scrottiecool.00:14
@scrottielet me know how it goes.00:15
doc_777Oh, you will probably hear more... :)00:15
@scrottieyeah, I'd do addFileFromFormPost() rather than $form->process('formImage', 'image')00:15
doc_777I am going to try that, and in fact tried it earlier, but I am unsure "where" the file went... it did not give an error. Just nothing...00:16
@scrottiereading this, it looks like if there are multiple file uploads of the same name, it'll get the files for all of them and stick them in the same storage location.00:16
-!- kaare_ [~kaare@94.191.200.93.bredband.3.dk] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]00:17
doc_777If I could control the location that would be perfect.00:17
@scrottiecheck out GalleryAlbum.pm around line 108000:17
doc_777ok00:17
@scrottiethe basic strategy there looks like:  create the asset first; ask the asset what it's storage location is (and get a WebGUI::Storage object back); use the addFileFromFormPost() method on that WebGUI::Storage object to stick everything into that asset's storage location00:18
@scrottierather than creating an asset, just keeping the data in a profile field is an option too.  not sure how this is all supposed to work, but thought I'd mention that.00:22
doc_777That would be a nice option to... everything else is there.  Which at this point I just want to see a file uploaded to the servers hard drive. I have worked on this for days on and off :)00:24
@scrottiethe "Profile" admin in WebGUI's admin lets you add stuff to peoples profiles.  you can add a field of type "file" or "image" (I think), then ... well, you shouldn't have to write any code at all, though you might want to edit the templates involved.00:26
@scrottieyou would have to write code if you wanted to show those images to other people in some way other than wG already does...00:27
@scrottieand I don't think there's a way built in to search for other users and view their profiles, though there's logic built in for viewing other user's profiles00:27
doc_777The site I am working on allows users to have their "own" page on the site. They can go to their profile and I added a plug in for them to edit all the fields.   Everything works fine, except for getting the images uploaded to the server. Eventually they will upload images and they will display on their page in preset locations. I would like to have my own folder system like /data/domain/imag00:31
doc_777es/user2/image1.jpg and not store it all in webgui.00:31

@scrottiewell, their "page" could be their profile, as visible to other people, and with a customized template.01:02
@scrottieso it would be a matter of writing something to take the place of an image gallery or folder or whatever contains the assets now.01:02
@scrottiethere's also logic built in for "friending" people01:02
@scrottiethat can be enabled/disabled01:03
doc_777 I have gotten the files to upload to /public/uploads/1e/b5/something/filename.  I am not sure if this is a permanant location though. Is it possible to copy a file somewhere else in plug in?01:04
@scrottieyou could... but WebGUI really likes to use WebGUI::Storage... and it likes to create structures like that.01:05
@scrottieyou could muck around in the innards and change where it thinks the file is, and then use perl's rename() built-in to actually move the file.01:06
@scrottieit's probably easier to just use WebGUI's API from other code you write to find where things are01:06
doc_777Webgui loves to do things its own way.. But there is a possibility that one day down the road this site might not even use webgui. It works off a seperate database and a seperate folder structure would work great in case of future changes. Webgui at the moment just provides authentication. 01:08
doc_777Looks like Storage.pm provides a lot of cool features, including copy, so that might work :)01:16

doc_777Perl in general is getting a bit sad... I hate to see it. I love it... But when I look at say scripts for amazon SES they have scripts for everything EXCEPT perl.02:14
xdangerAnd it's weird. the git repo for webgui has already relese 8.0.0 and preparing to 8.0.1, but no news or anything since that02:15

@scrottiepreaction was working on wG8 full time up until he left.03:39
@scrottiea few people left around the same time.  PlainBlack has a few businesses, but on the WebGUI side, the income comes from client contract development, and the deadlines involved in that are harder than those in releasing a version of WebGUI.03:40
@scrottieso, wG8 was negelcted for a while.  perlDreamer made time to push it out the door, kind of.  not sure if he ever formally announced it or finished the wre for it, which he said was the last peice.03:41
@scrottieI'm not crazy about the heavily JS admin either.03:41
@scrottieYAPC will probably be the big announcement for wG8.03:42
@scrottieand yeah, people stopped *doing* *stuff* with perl.  there was a "roller sprints" event at a favorite pub of mine not long ago, where some of my crazy bike friends had set up bicycles on roller trainers and set up a computer score board attached to the speedometer built into the roller trainers, and had races with eliminations going.03:44
@scrottiethey wrote the scoreboard/elinimation/race progress visualization thing for the projector in Ruby.03:44
@scrottieR is taking over in bioinformatics.03:45
@scrottiethe perl hackers got old and stopped hacking.03:45
@scrottielooking at the YAPC schedule, it's good that people are talking about the stuff they're doing with Perl, but man, I wish people were doing more interesting stuff with Perl =|03:46

j_wrightwhat are the plans for (re)implementing postgresql support?14:07
@scrottiej_wright, I want to, but I've been under the gun for a while.14:20
j_wrightwhat needs to be done?14:33
@scrottieI'd like see most of the assets busted out into optional things that don't necessarily themselves support Postgres14:35
@scrottiesome of them are pretty gnarly and I wouldn't want to touch them, such as Thingy14:36
@scrottiethe work I do, it seems like 99% of the assets are Template, Page Layouts, or custom stuff.  I'm mostly really building on top of it.14:37
@scrottieso it seems like if the core had backends (via mix-ins, or abstract base class, or whatever) for different database systems, that would satisify what I want.14:37
@scrottiethat would leave people to make additional requests, such as "hey, make Thingy work on Postgres", which I would probably just ignore, personally, though of course people would be free to do that work ;)14:38
@scrottiethe WebGUI/Asset*pm classes would be a good place to start looking to get an idea of what's involved, but there's also Settings, the user profile stuff, and all manner of things.14:39
@scrottieso I guess the short answer would be "everything except most of the stuff under WebGUI/Asset"14:41
j_wrightwhat fun, tried to see how tied up it was once, see how much work was involved. was pretty depressing14:44
j_wrightheh14:44
@scrottienot too bad.14:53

specsmuhello, anyone awake and with time for a question?21:57
@scrottiedon't ask to ask.  just ask.21:59
specsmuso I have a standalone setup, rinning I think 7.7.33.  I'm about to migrate to a new server and the person I'm working with on the design side is strongly pushing for WRE.22:00
@scrottiemost of the people who are awake aren't going to unidle to say "yes, I'm awake".  they'll just ignore that.  but if you ask a question and they know the answer, they'll speak up.22:00
specsmuIs there a way to migrate from one to the other?22:00
@scrottiemigrate from a source install to the wre?  sure.22:01
@scrottieit would involve dumping the database and reloading it, probably on an older version of mysql, which could take some doing.22:01
specsmumy concern is that the last time I tried to upgrade this source install some of the perl modules needed to be regressed and I had to do source patches to nurse it to the latest version.22:01
@scrottieif you're running a source install now, migrating to the wre doesn't seem like a step forward.  the wre has rather old versions of things, and the point is to make it easy to get things up.22:01
@scrottieyeah.  getting all of the perl modules installed on top of a source or system packages perl, or on top of the wre, is a major hurdle, and you'd be tackling that one again if you went to the wre.22:02
@scrottieImageMagick is known not to install.22:02
specsmuHmm.  that's a pretty compelling argument not to mess with it22:02
@scrottieyou should send the person who wants to migrate to the wre here.  I'd be interested to quiz him/her about why.22:02
specsmuI'll probably end up having to screw with it anyway, WRE or not.22:02
specsmuI think it's because she knows where everything is there22:03
specsmuI don't think I'm going to mess with it.  It's going to be hard enough migrating this without having to deal with screwing with WRE, etc.22:05
@scrottiein this case, I personally would be in the "don't mess with it" camp.22:06
@scrottiebreaking it and trying to fix it is going to be more work than simply figuring out how it's set up now.22:06
@scrottieare you moving hosts?22:06
specsmuyes22:06
specsmuI think I might take this chance to move from /home/WebGUI to /data/WebGUI though.22:06
specsmuone less change to make on upgrades.22:06
@scrottieoh, right... "migrate to a new server".  sorry, I'm less than half here.22:07
@scrottiein another window.22:07
specsmuthat's ok, it's a sunday.22:07
@scrottiein that case, the wre might make sense, since you have to do that or a source install on the new system anyway.22:07
specsmuI'd rather not be doing this too :)22:07
@scrottieand you're going to have to deal with database dumps and perl modules anyway22:07
specsmuyeah, I am22:07
specsmuthere are non-webgui hosts on it though22:07
specsmudoes it install its own apache or use the system one?22:08
@scrottieits own.22:09
@scrottieand an old one.22:09
specsmuhmm.  not sure I like that.22:09
specsmulast time I set up the old host, I used DSM. And spent hours frustrated because it was forcing me into its own way of doing things22:10
specsmu"you must use courier" "you must use this and that and put things here"22:10
@scrottiethe wre benefits from and suffers from being its whole little universe with everything installed.22:11
@scrottieand then being out of date.22:11
specsmuthis server is more than a webgui server, has wp blogs and other crap too22:11
specsmuI think I'm going to pass.22:11
specsmubut thanks for giving me a good reason to22:11
specsmuif I just copy /home/WebGUI over and make sure the perl modules are right, should that be enough?22:12
@scrottiehrm?  I have no idea.  I have to see the server.  but, no, you still have to dump/undump the database.22:12
specsmuwell I mean on a source install perspective22:13
@scrottiemysql, half of the time, doesn't let you dump and undump on the exact same version of the database.22:13
specsmuof course the database has to move22:13
specsmuoo, that'd suck22:13
@scrottieyou need the .conf files from etc in your $WEBGUI_ROOT, whereever that is, and a WebGUI install of the same version (you can upgrade before or after you move, obviously, but you can't change versions without going through the upgrade progress)22:14
specsmuI was going to use the same version22:14
@scrottieand the database, and modperl.conf and modproxy.conf or a hand-crafed httpd.conf with all of the important stuff in it instead22:14
specsmuupgrading tends to be a little grottie22:14
specsmugrotty22:14
@scrottieheh22:14
specsmuwhich sounds a lot like your nick :)22:14
@scrottiewell, upgrades *should* work and should be done.  they're pretty well tested.22:14
@scrottiehaha22:15
specsmuhonestly, I got burned last time22:15
@scrottieI guess that's what it's slang for, essentially22:15
specsmuI upgraded from a really old version22:15
specsmusomehow JSON changed in the middle of it22:15
specsmuso I had to upgrade by hand through each version22:15
specsmutook hours and hours of nursing22:15
@scrottieyeah, I was going to say... you do have to do a test run on a clone of the site or make backups22:15
@scrottieon the off chance that it doesn't work22:15
specsmuI'm leaving the old site up22:15
specsmuit's offline now, but I'm not touching it except as a data source until it gets backed up and decommed22:16
@scrottieugh.  yech.22:19
specsmuabout to do the dump, wish me luck.22:21
@scrottiespecsmu++22:23
specsmumakes me wonder if it works under postgres.  lol22:23
@scrottieif you have problems loading it (check how many tables you have in the old database versus the new one... do `show tables;` at the mysql> prompt) and make sure they're all there22:23
@scrottie)22:24
@scrottie(22:24
@scrottieahem.22:24
@scrottieif you're missing some, try the --complete-insert arg to mysqldump.22:24
specsmuhmm, I would guess there's no harm in doing that by default22:25
@scrottieit's undocumented and forces mysql to skip the extended insert they try to force on you even when you say --skip-extended-inserts.22:25
@scrottieman I hate mysql.22:25
specsmuuse postgres at work22:26
specsmuused to hate it but it's grown on me22:26
@scrottiesome things are a bit crufty and cranky, but the code quality is very high.22:26

SDuensinIt'd be an interesting thing to know.  I really just need to load 8 and play with it.20:25
doc_gt7Hello friends :) I have a question that I cannot find the answer to...  When creating an account plug in, can you call the url with a var like:  "domain.com?op=account;module=home&a=view"   ?   If so, how do you "receive" the var.  Thanks !20:28
@scrottiedoc_gt7, yup, you can.20:38
@scrottieit's read in the normal way:  $session->form->process('a')20:38
@scrottie; and & are the same thing in URLs.  domain.com?op=account;module=home;a=view is the same as your URL above.20:39
doc_gt7Ah... so this will work even without the form by tagging it on the url.  Perfect!  Thanks a lot.20:40
@scrottiesure thing!20:40
haargnot to say moose is without any impact, but mostly it has little performance impact unless you start using a bunch of the features it provides20:46

xdangerhmm... there is a MAJOR problem with webgui upgrades... they stop effecting after upgrade_7.9.34-7.10.22.pl, because that file hast $toVersion = "0.0.0"; and that breaks all the upgrades after that...05:28
xdangeralmost one year, and nobody noticed?05:28
xdangeris the community that dead? Have people on unitedknowledge and procolix moved on to somewhere else? (and where?) or don't people just upgrade their webguis?05:29
@scrottiemost people do not run anything near a recent version.05:50
@scrottieas far as the community being dead, I have no idea.05:50
@scrottiexdanger, thanks for the report...05:51
@scrottieI do remember someone the other day saying upgrades derailed.  bah.05:51
@scrottiecare to open a bug ticket for this and I'll fix it now and reference that?05:52
@scrottieotherwise I can.05:52
xdangerI'm a little sad about the whole slowdown of webgui05:52
xdangerI already did05:53
xdangerhttp://www.webgui.org/use/bugs/tracker/1234605:53
@scrottiewG8 took a lot of energy.05:53
xdangerIt chopped my description, but it's in the first comment05:53
@scrottieI've heard that it always does that.05:53
@scrottiethere's a replacement for the bug board, probably in frodwith's github thingie05:54
xdangerI really like the server end and developmental features of webgui. But I don't like the fact that there isn't anymore activity, even JT has moved on to "better" projects..05:55
xdangerI don't like the themes (or styles), or the admin interface, be it old or new wg805:56
@scrottiepreachin' to the choir.05:56
@scrottiebut development on wG8 was furious.  I'll disagree there.05:56
@scrottiepreaction was working on it full time, for years.05:56
@scrottieit's been several months since he left and development was back to spare time of other people.05:57
xdangerOh, yeah.. I liked that, it was fun to follow05:57
@scrottieI'd love to see better themes and a completely different admin (perhaps pluggable) in wG8.05:58
xdangerI learned a lot about what was comming to wg8 by follow github commits05:58
xdangerfollowing05:58
@scrottietrying to think how to put this.  wG8 was a fat baby.  now the mother is exhausted and a bit bed ridden.05:58
@scrottieit was a strategic blunder to try to do so much in one release, and take so long to do it.05:58
@scrottiere:  the admin and themes, patches welcome!05:59
xdangerOn the other hand, Moose + plack was needed05:59
@scrottieyeah.  modernization and clean up in general was badly needed.05:59
xdangerI'm not a fan of the new js heavy admin in wg805:59
xdangerI't great if it works 100% of the time, but it sucks if it doesn't work on 1% of my clients time...06:00
@scrottieI'm not a fan of the new admin and I've heard perlDreamer say that he isn't either.  I could see where some people would like it.06:01
xdangerThe old isn't good either06:02
@scrottieI don't use the UI much.  almost all of my work is in the database, vi, and with wgd.06:03
xdangerbtw. I upgraded yui to lates bugfix release 2.9.0 and that fixed a problem my client was having with some js stuff... also tinymce upgraded to latest.. seems to work =D06:03
@scrottiexdanger, you should fork plainblack/webgui on github, commit those changes to there, and then send a pull request!06:03
@scrottieshare your work.06:04
@scrottiejust delete the .php examples that come with yui before you commit.  having those in the static files is a potential security problem.06:04
xdangerBut I don't have the resources to test it properly 06:04
xdangerI did06:04
xdangerI deleted also the examples and docs06:05
@scrottiewell, we aren't going to stick to old versions of those things, so if they cause things to break, then they need to be fixed anyway.06:05
xdangerI've maintained my own fork for years06:05
xdangergit has made it much easier =)06:05
@scrottietoday is the day that you become a contributor, xdanger.06:05
xdangerI've contributed already ;)06:05
xdangerjust look at the credits.txt ;)06:06
@scrottieheh.06:06
@scrottiesorry ;)06:06
@scrottieI think we're on pull request #8 or so on github.06:07
@scrottiewe don't get a lot.06:07
@scrottieor haven't recently.06:08
xdangerI just don't have that much time. I'd like to help more, but webgui core is hard to get into06:08
@scrottiewG8 needed continious integration, I guess.06:08
@scrottieI feel that way about perl 5 itself.  I'd love to hack on it, but taking two steps in the door makes my head spin.06:08
@scrottieinstead, I vaguely poke at it with Inline::C and B::Generate06:08
xdanger:)06:08
@scrottieI expect there will be a big wG8 unvieling at YAPC.  JT was actually working on the wre for wG8 for a month or two there.06:10

xdangerok =D06:35
xdangerI really haven't mastered the wgd yet06:35
@scrottieone of our guys has a fork of wgd that takes an IP address and modifies the session for that IP address so that it lives forever and is the admin user.06:44
@scrottie that's awesome when you don't want to change the admin password on someone else's site.06:45
@scrottieI've got a fork that adds an ASCII art recursive tree view to wgd ls06:45
@scrottiehaarg is a bit conservative about accepting patches ;)06:46
xdangerok, nice... wgd db -l "loads a sql script" but it dumps the db before that =D Maybe I just misunderstood that..06:50
@scrottiethat's odd.06:51
@scrottieand probably a bug.06:51

haargmain wgd has a thing to check your cookies and create an admin session for you.  not sure how well that works anymore.08:54
haargthere's a reason -l clears the database before importing, but it may not be the best reason in the world08:55
haargpart of it is that wgd db < blah.sql generally works well for running random sql scripts, and when creating db -l i wanted something to create a clean db08:56
haargas for the tree thing, iirc it didn't play all that well with the other options which is why i didn't want to include it as is08:56

qwebirc63975hi to all. I'm new to webgui and I expected it to be a website builder CMS/IDE. Am I wrong? Also I installed it on Kubuntu 11.10 but I just don't know how to run it. Any clue? Thanks. Regards09:46

@scrottieqwebirc, what do you wanna know?00:20
@scrottieperlDreamer tagged an 8.0.000:20
@scrottieI don't know if he considers the wre for it done or not00:20
@scrottie8.x lives in the 'master' branch of git now00:20
@scrottietesting/features/improves/bug fixes/feedback are always welcome00:21
@scrottieand, likewise, there's usually someone here to help you with stuff =)00:21
@scrottieI'm guessing (and this is just my prediction) that 8.0 will be formally unvieled at YAPC00:21
@scrottiemost of the people who run WebGUI like their stodgy, old, stable versions so new versions just aren't something that people get excited about.00:22
