sbaurI'm playing with dataform in 7.6.35, and looking at it in 7.9.34 in a demo site. In 7.6 when you have a date field, and are in the dataentry form, it will give you a popup calendar to choose your date. On the 7.9 demo site, there is no popup calendar. 00:29
haargany javascript errors?00:29
sbaursince we are in the middle of designing a site that uses that popup calendar, why did it go away and/or is there someway to reactivate it00:29
haargi'm pretty sure it wasn't removed on purpose00:30
sbaurno js errors that i can see in my browser00:30
sbauri have lots of js warnings, but no errors00:31
haargyou have a link to the demo?00:31
sbaurhttp://demo.plainblack.com/demo1322692363_554/home00:32
haarghttp://demo.webgui.org/demo1322692842_754/00:33
sbaurWTF? was it something in the crystal style that was suppressing it?00:34
haargi don't know00:34
haargyeah, seems related to the crystal style00:35
sbauryep, changed the style and the popup is back00:36
sbaurthanks haarg00:36
+perlDreamermmm, lots and lots of untested user styles00:36
sbaur<sigh> my cool workaround no longer works in 7.900:37
+perlDreamerbecause of CrystalX?00:37
+perlDreamerif there's a bug relating to CrystalX, post it for 7.1000:37
+perlDreamerwhen we release a fix00:37
+perlDreamerjust backport the new template/css00:38
sbaurnope, not crystal x00:38
haargnot sure what exactly the problem is, but it seems the calendar is showing up behind the content00:38
+perlDreamersbaur, what kind of workaround are you talking about?00:38
sbaurin 7.6, if you put a space in for the default value of the calendar element, it doesn't default to a day, but the popup still starts at today. However, the second calendar on the screen will start at the one chosen in the first calendar, which was my workaround. for browsers that aren't IE00:39
sbaurs/one chosen/date chosen/00:40
+perlDreameryeah, there was lots and lots of bugfixing in the Date and DateTime form plugins between 7.6 and 7.now00:40
+perlDreamerit's now very intolerant of non-dates being added00:40
+perlDreamerand it defaults either to today00:40
+perlDreameror January 1st, 197000:40
sbauryep, i was looking for a reliable way to get calendar 2 to default to the date chosen in calendar 100:41
+perlDreamerthis is for the dataform, or for some other asset?00:41
sbaurdataform00:41
+perlDreamerseems like some carefully written JS would work and be much more reliable00:41
sbauryes, but it seemed to be ignored (or perhaps overwritten) by the default value the yui calendar is using00:42
sbaurso it's back to the drawing board for me, but it was such a cool trick :-)00:43
+perlDreamersorry sbaur00:47

+perlDreamerMorning folks19:11
+perlDreamerOver on the dev list at webgui.org, Trex has asked about how to contribute and help with WebGUI 819:11
+perlDreamerhe also asked about some kind of webinar or chat19:11
+perlDreamerif this is something that interests you, then please head over to the dev forum and make a post19:11
ckotilPD , i think ive got wg8 installed, but passive profiling is killing it19:37
ckotilError: ``Undefined subroutine &WebGUI::PassiveProfiling::add19:37
ckotilok disabled that via mysql cli.19:39
ckotilhah! works19:41
ckotili to tweak a couple other things, such as add HTMLTemplateExpr. but that was it. 19:42
CIA-57webgui: Graham Knop WebGUI8 * r74159f7 / lib/WebGUI/Asset.pm : load WebGUI::PassingProfiling in WebGUI::Asset - http://git.io/oRbOOA19:42
ckotilhttp://testglobalnoc.grnoc.iu.edu:5000/index.html sweet19:52
ckotil$session->env gone?19:57
ckotilah, it's now $session->request->env20:00
ckotilalso had to change WebGUI::Asset->newByDynamicClass to ->newById20:06
ckotilhrm, I can't get into edit mode20:07
ckotilany ideas?20:07
scrottieckotil, you're probably seeing the old adminbar.  one very common problem is upgrades didn't run correctly.  the wre's upgrader does not work.  the only way I know of that works is using a recent wgd to do the upgrades.20:30
scrottiethe install docs that come with it should be correct.20:30
scrottiejust a guess though.20:30
ckotili did the wgd upgrade20:31
scrottiegrep AdminBar /data/WebGUI8/etc/*.conf # or whereever you put WebGUI8 20:33
scrottiehrm, I should really install a command-line gist client.  anyone know of a good one, offhand?20:33
ckotilok, one sec. im running it again, and it's actually taking some time to run20:34
scrottiehttps://gist.github.com/141882520:34
ckotilfirst time i just finished quickly. im running from /data/WebGUI this time. last time i ran it from /data20:34
scrottiethat's what I got grepping for AdminBar in 7 vs 820:34
scrottieif it finishes quickly and doesn't output a bunch of stuff (and you aren't doing --quiet), it didn't run20:34
scrottielocation shouldn't matter (if it does, that's a bug) but it does WEBGUI_CONFIG or --config20:34
+perlDreamerckotil: check out docs/migration.txt for more info on what's changed in the API20:36
+perlDreamerThanks haarg.20:37
ckotilk20:37
+perlDreamera lot of Session has been ripped out20:40
+perlDreamerand we use replacements from Plack::Response and Plack::Request20:40
ckotilnice20:41
scrottiemost noticible thing is properties definitions... rather than being one big datastructure, it's a series of short declarations, built on top of Moose.20:45
+perlDreamerthere's that, too20:45
+perlDreamerlots of changes to www_add, www_edit, getEditForm20:45
+perlDreamerForm building is now best done with WebGUI::FormBuilder20:45
+perlDreamernewByDynamicClass is new newById20:47
+perlDreamermost methods throw exceptions now, instead of returning undef20:48
+perlDreamerWebGUI::Crud is deprecated, but changed to work with the new style of definitions20:48
+perlDreamerassets have real accessors now20:48
+perlDreamerso you can call $asset->assetId instead of $asset->get('assetId')20:48
+perlDreamerthe old method will still work, but is slightly slower than direct access20:49

+perlDreamerregarding testing....21:34
+perlDreamerWe need a lot of POD to be written21:34
+perlDreamerAny test dealing with LDAP fails, since we don't host an LDAP server any longer21:35
+perlDreamerI'd really like to replace that with Test::Net::LDAP::Server21:35
+perlDreamerhowever, my initial efforts at using that module have failed, since it forks internally, and when the fork returns, it calls all the test cleanup methods, which makes the real test emit odd warnings21:36
+perlDreamerthere's one failing test in Asset/EMSSubmission.t that needs to be tracked down either as an actual bug, or a failing test that needs to be upgraded21:36

+perlDreamerhere's another WebGUI 8 task21:53
+perlDreamerthe step "Move core profile fields to users table" is slow, so it could use some interim feedback21:53
+perlDreamerit should say as its creating fields21:53
+perlDreamerand it should move each column over one by one21:53
+perlDreamerjust so the user doesn't thing it's hanging21:53
haargperlDreamer, possibly not ideal, but you could load Net::LDAP::Server::Test as the first module, and then call ->new in a BEGIN21:59
haargbefore any of the other test modules are loaded21:59
haargnow that i'm thinking about it22:00
+perlDreamerthat would work22:00
haargWebGUI::Test can check the pid when it loads22:00
haargand only call the cleanup code if the pid matches22:00
+perlDreamerI keep thinking about this on and off22:00
+perlDreamerand it makes me wonder how Test::WWW::Mechanize::Plack doesn't have this problem22:01
+perlDreamerbecause I'm reasonably sure that it also forks22:01
+perlDreamerand yet it doesn't cause this problem22:01
+perlDreamerbut maybe it doesn't fork, but blocks instead22:01
+perlDreamerand like SMTP tests, you just can't tell22:01
haargby default, it doesn't use a net server at all22:01
haargit does it all in process, setting up things to match the psgi api22:02
+perlDreamerI see, so no forking, just blocking22:02
haargactually it was Plack::Test i was thinking of that allows you to use a real server22:04
haargTest::WWW::Mechanize::PSGI always does it in process22:05

+perlDreamerGood morning WebGUI 8 adventurers18:46
+perlDreameryour challenge today is to help me figure out what this is about: http://gist.github.com/142391718:46
+perlDreamerthat happens when I upgrade the default site to WebGUI 818:46
+perlDreamerthe upgrade itself progresses with no issues, but I find that snippet in my logfile everytime18:47
haargshare/upgrades/7.10.23-8.0.0/zzz_renameFormBuilderTemplateVars.pl line 5418:51
haargalso, it would be a really good idea to get rid of Sub::Uplevel18:51
haargit's only used for fatal, and that shouldn't exist anyway18:52
haargthe namespace showing up in the gist is pretty odd, but i can't really look at it right now18:53
+perlDreamerhow did you find out which upgrade sub was logging the error?18:53
haargit didn't look like a real error18:54
haargso i just acked for error in the upgrades dir18:54

+perlDreamerhaarg: Do you mean removing Sub::UpLevel from WebGUI::Session::Log?  It's only used by fatal, not any of the other methods.20:43
haargyes21:01
haargjust loading the module causes side effects21:02
scrottieit redefines caller() globally in a way that's likely to explode and almost certain to explode if anything else tries to redefine caller().21:37
scrottiethe main problem with black magic is that it generally does not mix well with other black magic.21:38

haargi really shouldn't have put Sub::Uplevel in there at all, but i was trying to keep the caller information in the logging useful.22:54
haargwe should just set the default logging for fatal to include a full stack trace22:55
+perlDreamersure22:55
+perlDreamerthat means we also go back to playing with the caller_depth in each method?22:55
haargno22:56
haargthe rest of the loggers use goto22:56
haargso they have reasonable stack traces already22:56
haargfatal needs to run stuff after calling the logger, which is why it uses uplevel22:57
+perlDreamerI'll look into that after I run some kids around for errands22:57

@scrottiewaay off topic:  quite often, wpa_passpassphrase generates a psk that is rejected ("four way handshake failed", repeatedly).  this happens for me on some APs reliably but others are reliabily fine.  anyone else here experiensed this?  probably no one else uses wpa_passphrase directly.  NetworkManager is a pain and doesn't work at all with my window manager.10:19

+perlDreamermorning folks20:55
haargperlDreamer, i don't really expect that removing Sub::Uplevel will fix the weirdness with log messages in upgrades.  but trying to fix it with that in place seems like it could get really nasty, and it's just a bad thing to include in general.21:04
+perlDreamerokay21:04
+perlDreamerit's getting better, however21:04
+perlDreamerperl -e 'require WebGUI::Asset::File::ZipArchive';21:04
+perlDreamerSCALAR(0x8d98180) is not of type SCALAR at /data/wre/prereqs/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/namespace/clean.pm line 284.21:04
haargpart of the issue with the log message you were getting is that upgrade scripts don't have a real package.  the thing you got was really weird even aside from that though.21:06
CIA-57webgui: Colin Kuskie WebGUI8 * rd1f3d07 / sbin/testEnvironment.pl : Specify a known minimum good version of Package::Stash. - http://git.io/JTYEsg21:07

haargwell, they do have a package21:10
haargjust not one that is useful in tracking down what file it is21:10
haargugh imagemagick21:11
haargperlDreamer, was that version bump to fix the ZipArchive thing?21:12
+perlDreameryup21:13
+perlDreamerI tried bumping namespace::clean, but it didn't change it21:13
+perlDreamerpackage::stash was the next attempt21:13
haargdo you know what version you had previously?21:15
+perlDreamer0.3021:15
+perlDreamerthank God for screen buffers21:15
haargperlDreamer, looking at namespace::clean21:33
haarg's Changes, it looks like the latest version has a change regarding deleted sub stashing21:33
haargwhich sounds like what you saw with the upgrade logging21:34
+perlDreamerit does21:59
+perlDreamerperhaps it triggers a bug with that earlier version of Package::Stash22:00
haargi'm not sure it is a bug22:00
haargit sounds like older versions of namespace::clean kept copies of the subs in a stash22:01
haargand the latest version doesn't do that anymore22:01
haargi can't easily test upgrades here, but i'd be interested to see what you get from log calls in upgrades with those modules updated22:03
+perlDreamerI'll check on my dev box22:04

mindspinHi, I have a stupid question: what is the url of my first site in a testenviroment? (lan)21:43
mindspinI#ve installed wre , can access the admin-site via hostname:6083421:44
@scrottiedo you have your domain name mapped to the IP address of the server?22:17
@scrottiedo you have DNS set up to point to the IP of the server?22:17
@scrottieif you didn't have an httpd running before, the wre setup should fire up one for you on the default port, and you should just be able to go to the IP/hostname and see the new WebGUI.22:18
mindspinno dns, just added the host to etc/hosts of the client machine22:18
@scrottiethat works for testing.22:18
@scrottiewhat happens when you try to go there in your browser?22:18
@scrottiethat is, after you set things up at :60834 or whatever it is22:19
mindspinI guess I have another apache running, cause I access a apache default page when using the ip of the server22:19
mindspinall other requests give me timeouts22:19
mindspinlike hostname/testsite22:19
@scrottieodd they would give you timeouts rather than 404s22:20
mindspinwait22:20
mindspinI get timeout when I add port 808022:21
mindspinand 404 when using hostname/testsite22:22
mindspinto be correct22:22
@scrottieyou should be able to get-get remove apache222:22
@scrottieapachectl stop22:22
@scrottieor: apachectl stop22:22
@scrottiethen:  wreservice.pl --start all22:22
@scrottieor perhaps --restart all22:23
@scrottieand the httpd that comes with the wre should be able to start22:23
mindspinthanks I'll have a try22:23
@scrottieyou might check /data/wre/var/logs/error_log22:23
@scrottieif the wre's httpd failed to start, the error should be in there22:23
@scrottiesure thing22:23
@scrottieof course, you could also configure them to be on different ports, or change the wre's modproxy.conf to proxy to the other one, or any number of other things22:24
mindspinI'll see, because after testing and setting up my site it will be moved to a server in a data-center22:25
mindspinI#m still using 5.6 but now its really time to move to something more current22:26
@scrottiewell, the wre comes with a newer perl22:28
mindspinBase class package "Config::JSON" is empty.22:30
mindspin    (Perhaps you need to 'use' the module which defines that package first.)22:30
@scrottieand it's own mysql, and so on and so forth.22:30
mindspin at /data/wre/lib/WRE/Config.pm line 1422:30
@scrottiedid you do the testEnvironment.pl step?22:30
mindspinno , I haven't found the script22:30
@scrottieif the WebGUI is newer than the wre (which is a given), you'll have to do that.  that will try to (and fail to) install deps.22:30
@scrottiefwiw, I think the install instructions mention that step.  if not, let me know and I'll fix them.22:31
@scrottiedo you have experimence installing perl modules?22:31
mindspina bit22:31
mindspinlong time ago ;-)22:31
mindspinits added at the end of the instructions page, but i hoped it works out of the box22:32
mindspinwhere do I find the tstenvironment.pl script?22:33
@scrottieyeah, that would be nice.  the source for the wre is out there somewhere.  perlDreamer does the releases for it.  I'm sure he wouldn't mind help ;)22:33
@scrottie /data/wre/sbin/testEnvironment.pl I think22:33
mindspinnope sorry22:33
mindspinnot here ;-)22:33
@scrottieit wants to be run as root (which may not be necessary... I often modify it not to require it since I own all of the files in /data/wre)22:33
@scrottie /data/WebGUI/sbin/testEnvironment.pl22:34
@scrottiecomes with WebGUI, not wre22:34
mindspinthere's setenvironment, but not the other22:34
mindspinah22:34
mindspinthanks22:34
mindspinperl's too old22:35
@scrottiesure thing.  let me know if the thing fails to install some deps.  there are some simple things you can do to push things along a bit more.22:36
@scrottieah, yeah, it's seeing your 5.622:36
@scrottieafter you su to root, you have to do ... export WEBGUI_CONFIG=/data/WebGUI/etc/*whatever*.conf; export PERL5LIB='/data/WebGUI/lib:/data/WebGUI/t/lib' 22:36
@scrottieor alternatively:  . /data/wre/sbin/setenvironment.sh22:37

elninohello friends! anyone have recommendations for a partition recovery software?17:58
elninowe slammed on the boot file, and the drive is no longer bootable, and can't see it on a windows machine. I dont' have a linux machine, but maybe it would be able to mount it??17:59
elninojust thought I'd ask here, you all are much smarter than me.18:00
haargyou mean you tried sticking it into a different machine and it doesn't see anything on the drive?18:00
elninoyes. 18:02
haargthere are various linux rescue discs you might try, but i haven't done anything like that in a long while.18:04
elninohe he. I probably should have said that this is a windows harddrive, i'm wondering if a linux machine would be able to mount it. because my other windos machine can't se it.18:05
elninoand it had two partitions on it.18:05
haargyeah, i figured it was a windows drive.  you might have more luck with linux, but i couldn't make any particular recommendations for software.18:07
elninook. Thanks haarg. Best buy wil charge $99 if I bring in my own backup medium. which sounds like a good price to me considering the time and effort I would take me at this point.18:08
+BartJolmounting is easy just have to add the fs type: mount -tntfs /drive /mountpoit18:12
+BartJolmy best guess is a ntfs drive18:12
+BartJolbut if it is really broken that might not work18:13
+BartJolI di have a unbootable windows partition mounted on my linux os on my laptop, works perfectly18:13
elninoBartJol, another thing is that my windows drive had two partitions, would linux be able to moutnt the two?18:15
+BartJolit should be18:15
elninohmm. how does the mount command change? or doesn't it?18:16
+BartJolit doesn't18:16
+BartJolyou only need to know your device18:16
elninoso it just kinda sees them both?18:16
+BartJolwell, you have to point to use them18:16
+BartJolit should see both18:16
+BartJolafaik18:16
+BartJolboth should be available in /dev/18:18
elninohmm. ok. so now the question is, if I have a vps, and the host is windows, would I still be able to mount the drive? I'm guessing not.18:18
+BartJolwell, that might be a problem18:19
elninoright, cause windows can't see it.18:19
+BartJolI'm not sure, it might18:19
+BartJolnever tried18:20
elninoright now, my xp machine keeps saying, do you want to format the disk, so it sees it. kinda.18:20
+BartJolah18:20
+BartJolwell, needless to say, don't format18:20
elninoright. =) that be bad.18:20
+BartJolwell that was the useless part18:21
+BartJolbut what is broken on that partition? is it the filesystem, or only os?18:21
elninowe put an xp boot file on the windows drive.18:21
elninobecause it was recommended by some website.18:22
elninothen we tried to fix the boot file using bootfix program and that didn't work.18:22
+BartJoldo you see it in Start->right clink on computer->manage->storage0>disk management?18:24
elninowe see one of the two partitions.18:24
elninobut right now we took the drive out because we didn't want to mess with it anymore.18:24
+BartJolbut, it is a virtual drive?18:25

elninono. I was just wondering if I installed virtual box and had a linux vps if that would see this drive.18:29
elninothis drive in question was my files from my old computer.18:31
+BartJolok so you have a windows box, with a virtualbox linux on it and you want to see physical partitions18:34
+BartJolwell virtual box does see the physical drives18:36
+BartJol(just tested on by virtualbox)18:37
+BartJolchut down the virtualbox vm, go to storage in the properties, add a IDE drive and choose the partition18:39
@daviddelikatelnino: I've done a bit of rescuing...18:39
@daviddelikatI use 18:39

@daviddelikatsome a specifically for recovering data on a damaged drive18:39

elninogreat! thanks daviddelikat I'll take a look at those too.19:07
elninodo you think i should try software first? or do you think I should try installing virtualbox and see if linux will mount it?19:08
elninoof course, then I'd have to mount another drive big enough to cop the files.19:09
@daviddelikatthats a good question19:19
@daviddelikatwhat is the content of the drive?19:19
@scrottieyou could always make an exact copy of the filesystem if you have anothe disc that's as large19:19
@scrottiedd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sdc bs=819219:19
@scrottie(or whatever identifiers that drive and the spare show up on Linux... don't get them backwards)19:20
elninothe first particioin was the os, our files were in the second larger partition.19:20
@daviddelikatin order to get the best copy you need some deep analasys19:20
@daviddelikatand its ntfs?19:20
elninothat is our recollection. both are.19:20
@daviddelikatis it comressed by any chance?19:20
@daviddelikat-compressed-19:20
elninono, I doubt it.19:20
@scrottieyou can do a bit-for-bit copy if you're worried about a recovery tool trying and failing to recover the data.19:20
@scrottieand leaving it more corrupted.19:20
@scrottieha, stacker!19:21
@daviddelikatbit for bit is still not deep analasys19:21
@scrottieokay, what the heck is "deep analasys" (analysis?)?19:21
@daviddelikata good recovery tool reads and re-reads each block to get the best copy of the content19:21
@scrottieis this thing physically damaged or merely partially overwritten or corrupted?19:22
@daviddelikatsounded like a crash to me19:22
elninomyunderstandng of what we did, is we put a xp boot file over the win2000 boot file.19:22
@scrottieso he should be looking at the S.M.A.R.T. data from the drive to find out.19:22
elninoprior to that, the disk worked fine. we were changing it froma primary disk to a secondary disk.19:22
@scrottieunlike floppies, HDs already re-try reads on hard-to-read sectors.  they also keep stats on how often they have to do this and how successful it is, and lots of other things.19:23
@daviddelikatthe hiren boot disk has an xp live image that you can boot19:23
@scrottiemodern ones.  obviously not RLL drives.19:23
elninoI'll back up.... we put the disk in as a seondardy, and the new primary (xp) couldn't read it. It only saw the first partition, but none of i's files.19:23
elninoso per recommendation of a website, we "marked the first partion as active"19:24
@daviddelikatscrottie:  recovery software will do it hundreds of times19:24
@scrottieif that's the case, elnino, it should be a simple case of mounting the drive.  you might intsall on another drive, put that in an external enclosure and copy the data.  oryou might just re-install to the first partition.  anyway, you should have a backup already, and if you don't, you should do that first thing, before installing anything.19:24
@scrottiedaviddelikat:  chance of a successful read plummets down a logarithmic scale.  after 30 or so tries, you're more likely to get struck by lightning (or some other extremely unlikely thing).19:25
@scrottieafter repeated attempts.19:25
elninowell the XP didn't see the files. so you think mounting linux might? I thnk we have an external case lying around. Maby the ide cable in the coputer was bad. we set the jumpers to cable select19:27
elninoGotta go. are you two around later?19:27
@scrottienope, no idea, re: Linux.  just make a copy before you muck with it too much!19:27
@scrottiein fact, always have two copies (some people think a backup means one copy... pennyarcade did a comic about that after they enarly lost their data and had to pay a bunch of money for surgery on a drive)19:28
@scrottie"master" might be better for an external enclosure.19:28
@scrottiethe USB adapter might not know how to to CS19:28
elninobut how do you make a copy if it can't be recognized by xp?  after we put the boot file on , it prompts us to reformat the disk. 19:28
@scrottieI'll be here later.  hopefully david will too.  I haven't seen him too active on IRC so I'm please =)19:28
@scrottieyou don't copy files, you copy bits, as david hinted at.19:29
@scrottiesimilar with 'dd'.  dd doesn't copy files.  it copies the raw bits on the thing.19:29
elninook. I'll copy this convo and study it more..19:29
@scrottiedd isn't a recovery tool per se, just a handy general purpose copying tool.19:29
@scrottiebasically, you're working with "disc images" or perhaps "partition images".19:30
@daviddelikatI'm usually around but its easier to get me on skype...19:30
@daviddelikat[ untill I find a better IRC client... ]19:30
@scrottieI need to write my own using SDL.19:30
* scrottie grumbles19:31
@daviddelikatscrottie:  if multiple reads don't help then why do we run outrageous disk wipe processes that write as many as 16 different values in a single location?19:48
@daviddelikat[ I'm not an expert in HD technology... ]19:49
@daviddelikatI used to run this recovery software19:49
@daviddelikatand I still run the disk wipe software [ occasionally ]19:49
@daviddelikatI've often thought the whole thing was a scam....19:51
@scrottie"shred" utilities that overwrite multiple times aren't to keep the drive itself from reading the data... it's for labs that pull the platters out of the drive and map the surface of the drive at a far, far higher resolution (and very slowly)19:57
@scrottiethey aren't looking at the magnetic bubbles but how the magnetic bubbles are pushed around in response to how they interacted with the bubbles they were written on top of20:13
@scrottieit's considered extremely unlikely that someone will want your data bad enough to do this.20:20
@scrottiefar more likely, you just unlinked the data and didn't overwrite it all, even once, with any bit pattern, in which case the recovery problem is a filesystem level one, not a magnetic bubble level one.20:20
@scrottiedeja vu.  dammit.  20:21
@scrottieI'm not an expert either.  just been to one too many DEFCONs.20:21

elninohello! scrottie!05:52
elninoand daviddelikat!05:52
@scrottiehey elnino05:53
elninowell, we found my partitions! our data is there.05:53
elninoI'm scared to push the "fix button" =) we have an external drive that we do have a backup on already. but we'd have to erase that to make room to make another backup from our "messedup drive"05:54
elninoso if we erase what we have, and make a back up and that fails, then we're really screwed because then I have no backup.05:54
elninothe reviews of the software we're using (mini tool particion recovery) are favorable. so I guess I'm wondering when you "fix a partition" what is it doing?05:55
elninojust changing a couple bits?05:55
@scrottiea backup means having *two* copies.05:56
@scrottieI was suggesting making additional copies.05:56
@scrottieokay, you do have a backup05:56
@scrottiedon't erase that05:56
elninoI donthave any other drives at this poitn.05:56

elninocorrect. I do nothave another drive laying aroudn.05:57
@scrottiewithout warning, they just fall over and croak.05:57
elninoactually.. yes, I know.05:57
@scrottieback up your data.05:57
* elnino hangs head.05:57
@scrottiefix partition is probably a good idea given the situation.05:58
@scrottieif you're worried, and you had a 3rd drive, you *could* make a raw bitlevel backup.  since you don't, use what you've got.05:58
elninowhen you do a bitlevel backup, I'm assuming the file that results from that is  going to be the same size as the "messed up drive", right?06:01
@scrottieyup.06:02
@scrottieit's sort of like an .iso.06:02
@scrottieactually, exactly like it.06:02
elninoI just looked, I have 300+G free on my backup drive, so I could possibly do a bit level copy, unless you think the bitlevel is goign to clear out that drive.06:02
@scrottiebut rather than ISO9660 file system, it's one or more NTFS ones with a partition table at the start.06:02
elninowhat software do you recommend?06:02
@scrottieI only know Unix-y stuff.06:03
@scrottiecan't tell you what's good for Windows.06:03
@scrottieyou should also run a SMART tool on the drive and make sure it isn't reporting that it is failing.06:03
elninothat's wise to do too, though, I know that this is purely a messed up partition drive issue. no hardware.06:04
elninos/no hardware/no hardware issues06:04
* scrottie blinks06:05
elninowhen you said "failing" I immediately think hardware wise. 06:06
@scrottieall of my laptops are used.  I get 'em off of eBay.  I like to run smartmonctl on them when I get them and see what state the HD is in.06:06
@scrottieyes.06:06
@scrottieI had one that was almost out of bad block forwarding space and had seen an impact of something like 8 g's.06:07
@scrottieamazing it survived.  it seemed fine, but that thing went down, hard.06:07
@scrottiethe whole point of SMART drive monitoring is that you can tell that a drive is failing before it fails.06:07
@scrottieif you look at it and say "bah, it's fine", you're missing the point.06:07
@scrottiebut they will still fail suddenly, too.06:08
elninobelieve me, I do agree. I said what I said, knowing that it was still possible for it to fail hardware wise. I was just still focusing on the partition issue.06:09
@scrottieyou see some amazing numbers, too.  my HD has unloaded/loaded its heads 318,920 times.06:09
@scrottieright.06:09
elninoI found a SMART for windows.06:09
@scrottieif the drive were failing, that would make making a bit copy of the thing before trying to write to it more important.  that's all.06:09
* scrottie clocks out06:16

doc_gt7Hello friends. I upgraded from 7.9.27 to 7.9.34 then to 7.10.23-stable but now I am getting "The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."  instead of the websites.  Apache2:: SizeLimit is killing all the threads.  18:28
doc_gt7Actually it is not that, I doubled the limits in wre/etc/modperl.pl and that error stopped but the server is still not serving pages now and the log files are not showing why.  All pages display Service Temporarily unavailable.18:33
doc_gt7We are using the wre.  After the upgrade modperl is now crashing without saying why. The log file simply says: "Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run"19:01
doc_gt7modproxy seems fine, which is why it shows the Service Temporarily Unavailable message.  19:01
doc_gt7wremonitor.log shows " Killed 9 Apache/mod_perl processes that were using too much memory."   I think this is the problem but a bit unsure on why this is happening after the upgrade.19:07
doc_gt7wremonitor is killing modperl off after the upgrade to 7.10.23-stable.  I doubled the maxMemory setting in wre.conf to 200000000 and everything seems fine now. I do not know if that is ridiculously high but this is a dedicated webgui server with a lot of RAM and if WebGUI does not actually run then we could save power by turning it off  :)   Even though no one answered I am typing all this in case someone else has the same pro19:25
doc_gt7Merry Christmas everyone!  Great job on 7.10.23.19:25
doc_gt7If someone does come in and read this we would love to have something done with the group member editing. We have a newsletter with 1500+ members and it is a real pain to edit. If you need to find "Mark" I have to dig through page 47,48,49,50 no, he is on page 62.  Delete.   A simple search box with name or email address would make the day! :)19:30

@scrottieand yeah, the wremonitor having to have its size limit bumped is far too common of a problem and pretty nasty.  WebGUI upgrades can't really change the wre very well and vice versa.  breaks compartmentalization.  but there should be a warning about, or the wre needs to start getting the expected max size from WebGUI, or something.23:42
