elninopreaction, do you have other ideas I should consider? does the newsletter has something like this?04:56
@preactioni would probably do a collaboration system (with the mailing list functions)04:57
elninohmm.. I hadn't thought about the CS.. so.. create the cs with the canned emails, and then..?? 04:59
elninothe idea is to send one email immediately upon signup04:59
elninothen send the next a week later04:59
elninothen the next a week later type thing.04:59
@preactionohhh05:01
@preactionthat i would make into a workflow then05:01
elnino=)05:01
elninook. 05:01
@preactioni think i'm inadvertantly fixing the WRE for 64-bit systems as I get it to compile on Snow Leopard05:56
elninoyea!!!06:59
elninothinking aloud now.. to write a "ecourse" thing, I would need a workflow, probably a new asset called "email" that has it's own template. The admin would then create a bunch of the canned emails in a folder and upon registration, the user will be sent the emails in the order they appear in that folder.07:16
elninothe email assset would have a html template, a time it should be sent (relative to user's registration)07:16
elninothe workflow would have to be  a group workflow?07:17
elninoit would have to check the group that the user registered for, and send the appropriate emails for that group.07:17
elninoso the "email" asset would have to have a "viewable" group id.07:18
elninohmm. maybe the email would be based on newsletter?07:18
elninomaybe upon registration they get subscribed to the newsletter. 07:24
elninoans the workflow for the newsletter determines if the email is sent to them and when.07:24
elninoyep, I think the "email" would inherit from newsletter.07:29
elninoI recommend that this be deleted: http://www.webgui.org/etcetera/html_newsletter/html_newsletter 07:30
elninoI now wonder if it is an activity as opposed to a workflow.08:19
elninoand the activity would go with the "Send Queued Email Messages" workflow.08:22
elninoor daily maintaince tasks.08:22

@preactioni'm starting to think that the entire WRE is a gigantic waste of time19:12
@preactionwe'd have more luck by just packaging up all the released binaries for the systems, or building scripts for each system19:12
@preactionand having WebGUI itself ask a few questions about where to find things and then use scripts to add/remove sites and such19:13
+perlDreamerisn't that circular?19:13

@preactionwhat kind of blacklisting? usually it's done for an entire mail server (so by IP address)22:53
elnino_oh customer want to know if sending email from wq will black list her, she is currently useing aweber. I believe she is being affected by all theother aweber's customers. whereas, from wg, it's her own ip, so as long as she isn't sending bad stuff22:54
elnino_she can stay whitelisted?22:55
* elnino_ scratches head22:55
elnino_apparntly she is being blacklisted when using aweber.22:55
@preactionwhitelisting is an explicit list that bypasses blacklists22:55
@preactionand if she's sending spam, she'll get her other IP blacklisted to22:56
elnino_ok.. so emailing from her own server will keep her from being blacklisted <> on whitelist.22:56
@preactionbut yes, it's a different IP, so it shouldn't be blacklisted22:56

elnino_I suppose it's because a package could be a prototype when the prototype involves more than one configued asset...03:03
elnino_where as a real prototype is one pre-configured asset.03:03
elnino_I think I used a package like a prototype once becaause it was a pagelayout with articles on it- all with preconfigured options.03:04
elnino_so I guess I answered my question. It would probably make more sense to me if the two were combined... alow prototypes to be more than one asset and let them be exportable/importable.03:05
+perlDreamerelnino, packages show up there so that they can be deployed in a site03:32
+perlDreamerand packages have one other advantage, they can be hierarchial03:32
-!- ecopunk [n=ecopunk@h19-afsc.ded.indra.com] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]03:39
elnino_perlDreamer, so is the deployment of a prototype different than the deployement of a package?  For some reason I had stuck in my mind at one time, that when you deploy one or the other, and later modify the original package or prototype itself, those changes would also be applied.03:42
elnino_Am I making this up?03:42
+perlDreameryup ;)03:43
elnino_oh.. actualy.03:43
+perlDreamerif you deploy a prototype (like Haarg said earlier), then it kicks you into the edit screen for 1 asset, with all the defaults set correctly03:43
elnino_when you deploy a package overitself it's true.03:43
+perlDreamerif you deploy a package, you get 1 or more assets that are exact copies of the package, with no option for config on deploy03:44

elnino_I think the person's name started with an S18:27
elnino_=)18:27
+perlDreamerIn real life, or in nick name?18:27
elnino_nick name.18:28
+perlDreamerAt the WUC SynQ announced WebGUI Starter, which will be cheap, international hosting18:28
elnino_he starts with an S.18:29
elnino_I thought the software was in some repository too.18:29
elnino_SynQ must be asleep still18:30
* MrHairgrease knows for a fact that the S person just got me beer18:30
+MrHairgreaseso isn't all bad =)18:30
elnino_lol18:30
elnino_do you guys work together?18:30
SDuensinWhat kind of management software?18:31
* SDuensin wants to build a configuration management tool.18:31
+MrHairgreasesort of: procolix and oqapi offices are next to each other18:32
elnino_yeah - something that I can save MY defaults and disable things and when I create a site they would all apply. right now I modify confs alot.18:32
+MrHairgreaseplus it used to be company18:32
+MrHairgreaseso we are all one cozy little family18:33
+MrHairgreasesort of18:33
elnino_=)18:33
+MrHairgreaseI don't wanna be really realted to synq =)18:33
elnino_I'm putting in an rfe so that wre would let me copy an existing database to the new site. that would save me time too.18:33
SDuensinelnino_: Sounds like what I was wanting.  Put all the configs in a database, allow for exceptions/additions per-site, and let the tool regenerate the confs for you.  That way, you know all your sites are using the latest configuration parameters and they're all in the same order, etc.18:33
elnino_YES18:34
* SDuensin also starts with an "S". :-)18:34
elnino_=) It does!!18:36
SDuensinIdeally, I want WebGUI to manage WebGUI installs.  Just not had time to do anything about it.18:37
* SDuensin is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay backlogged on projects.18:37
elnino_http://www.webgui.org/rfe/request-for-enhancement/11352 here it is if you have anything to add feel free.18:38
* elnino_ goes and looks at wgtv to find webGUI starter18:39
+perlDreamerit was a hallway announcement18:40
elnino_yeah, it's not there. =(18:40
* elnino_ looking at story manager now.18:40

elnino_that's ok.  I havn't seen anything from wuc where I don't learn something. 18:42
elnino_hmm. 18:43
* elnino_ often wonders if it would be possible to use dimdim when doing these presentations and post the recordings instead of using a camera in the back corner of the room?18:43
elnino_it seems that story manager is more along the lines of what people expect with a blog... 18:45
+perlDreamerit can be blog like18:45
elnino_tag cloud, filing by month/date18:45
+perlDreamerit should be very cnn.com-like18:46
elnino_I like this.18:46

@preactiondefine: documents23:43
Jaelaefor users to find the ones they want. like an image gallery but for documents23:43
@preactionyou could throw them all into a Folder, you could use a collaboration system and attach them, you could use a heirarchy of folders23:43
@preactionif you put them into a hierarchy of folders, you can use the Search asset to search through them (including contents)23:44
@preactionthere's nothing overly sophisticated though, the Gallery could be extended, but it hasn't as of yet23:44

+perlDreamerbartjol: you're a karma-spending fool!17:42
+bartjolfool?17:45
+bartjolwhy?17:45
+perlDreamerfool is American slang for someone who does a lot of something17:45
+bartjolkarma is meant to be spend! (it rhymes, so it must be true)17:45
+bartjolbut ning gave me her karma to spend it17:46
+bartjolperlDreamer: i suppose you could spend your own karma for rfe's, but if you have one that you want some support for, now's the time to ask17:48
* perlDreamer likes spending my karma on getting people to write tests17:52
+bartjolmmm, gonna have some time for that when my house is finished....17:53
+bartjolok, so now, I'm gonna work on that, scrubbing tiles and putting in a ceiling17:53

zylopfaAnyone know of any errors with the friend request system?18:26
zylopfaSomehow i get errors and i backtracked it to that the original mail was not found in the mailbox18:26
zylopfaDoes the system somewhere hard-delete messages?18:26
+perlDreamerFriend's requests expire18:28
+perlDreamerand there is a workflow activity that purges old inbox messages after a preset time (1 year by default)18:28
zylopfayeah by a workflow18:28
zylopfabut its this workflow who cant find the original friend mailId18:29
zylopfaOhh shit18:29
zylopfaThats fatal18:29
zylopfathen 1) activity purge email messages after some time18:29
zylopfa2) the DenyUnansweredFriends workflow looks for these messages of invites18:30
zylopfaand cant find em cause 1) deletede em18:30
-!- LTR_bob1 [n=bob@213-136-16-35.adsl.bit.nl] has quit ["Leaving."]18:30
zylopfaThats a bad error I think18:30
+perlDreamerThat's a bad user configuration18:31
zylopfahow so?18:31
+perlDreamerbecause Friends requests expire way before the default 1 year18:31
zylopfaI havent set anything but the default in that regard18:31
+perlDreamerthen it probably isn't the problem18:32
zylopfaI have manually delete the requests that made errors cause the corresponding mailId couldnt be found in their inbox18:33
zylopfaBut I think there are problems with the friend system, I will be more alert as to what causes it in the future18:33
zylopfaCause at my site someone got 24560 messages that "user denied your friend request"18:33
+perlDreamervery good.  Please report them as bugs with all the details you can, including any manual db work you do.18:33
+perlDreamerThat's what I call denial.18:34
zylopfahaa yeah 18:34
zylopfaI have installed a message counter now to see if anyones mailbox suddenly skyrocket18:34
zylopfaSo i can alert myself to the problem if it arise again18:34
zylopfaI am running with 15,000 users so i have to watch things18:35
zylopfaperlDreamer, is it true that you become ignorant to other cms when using webgui?18:36
+perlDreamernot exclusively, but I think people are more familiar with what you use on a regular basis18:36
zylopfayeah18:36
zylopfaI dont know forexample Joomla only that many use it, but i wont try it18:37
zylopfacause i always seen php programmers mixing code and markup18:37
+perlDreamerI'd like to learn some of the other CMS'es, just so I can understand them better.18:37
zylopfaI remember in the old days php was good cause you could do just that18:37
+perlDreamerI think we could learn some things from Joomla, Drupal, etc18:37
zylopfayeah I guess18:37
zylopfathe API of Webgui is insane good imo18:38
zylopfaif you take your time to read it ofc18:38
+perlDreameryes, definitely18:38
zylopfaI am getting good response on my workflows on the bazaar at webgui.org18:39
zylopfaI made a form to sms workflow for the dataform, which i think is real good18:40
+perlDreamerI saw that18:40
zylopfaits not robust yet but more like a proof of concept18:41
zylopfaI made it for a site where you can get reminders for birthdays, meetings and other things, by sms texting18:41
zylopfaI am using the buildin Cron also18:42

+perlDreamerthose come right out of the DateTime modules, so we don't change them23:50
+perlDreamerit is entirely possible they've changed23:50
elninooh. they aren't timezones at all, just a bunch of America/state name.  I guess I thought it was the normal gst-6 etc. or whatever the appreviation is.23:51

+perlDreamertavisto, y'all are not coming back for OSCON, right?07:50
@tavistonope, but I may make an appearance in Cali (where OSCON is from now on.. right?) 07:51
@tavistotradeshows did not generate any ROI and they are expensive07:51
@tavistowell not tangible anyway.. maybe we'll eventually see some07:51
@tavistowhen you have 2200 competitors in the marketplace it's tough to stand out07:52
+perlDreamerOSCON is back in PDX this year07:52
@tavistooh wow, didn't know that07:52
+perlDreamerprobably still not worth the price of admission, though07:52
+perlDreameriirc, it was pretty spendy07:52
@tavistowould be great to go out there but money is still an object :)07:52
@tavistohowever, it may not be if some of our new top secret super uber cool stuff takes hold07:53
@tavistoguys, I could have sworn that there was a switch to enable people to recover their usernames in wG07:54
@tavistoam I on crack?07:54
+perlDreameryup, put down the pipe07:55
+perlDreamerwe only recover passwords07:55
+perlDreamerbut, i think you can enter in an email address and it will work, too07:55
@tavistohmm.. alright, so when peeps forget their username on cmsmatrix they have to email me for the info07:56
@tavistough07:56
@tavistoI swear we used to have this feature in like 6.x07:56
+perlDreamerin other news, the USPS has decided that it makes no sense to provide an easy to use list of supported Country names07:56
@tavistomaybe 5.5 days07:56
* perlDreamer will double check07:56
@tavistoSUPER07:56
@tavistowhy would it, that would make sense.07:56
+perlDreamerthere is a switch to enable/disable password recoverty07:57
@tavistoUSPS wants to grow it's services and compete with UPS/FedEx but like any government operated entity... they're idiots who are mismanaging the majority of the resources and have no clear direction07:57
@tavistoyeah, but that's not what I'm referring to07:57
+perlDreamerah, there is a setting called passwordRecoveryRequiresUsername07:58
+perlDreamerit works with recovering a password using profile fields...07:59
+perlDreamerif you don't use usernames, you can look it up via email address07:59
+perlDreamerso I was wrong07:59
+perlDreameryou can recover passwords without a username07:59
+perlDreamerbut you have to have some other info, like the email address used for the account, or the value of several profile fields08:00
@tavistoyeah using profile fields.. I'm aware of that method as well08:01
+perlDreamertavisto, on TGC, how do I make test checkouts without getting charged?08:01
@tavistothat's kind of a cool way to do it but still not perfect for what we need08:01
+perlDreameryou can use the email address way08:01
@tavistowell the best way is to test and then have us void the sale. Then it doesn't even go into processing08:01
+perlDreamercool.  I don't want a rehash of last week's double checkout submit problem.08:02
@tavistowe can do it minutes after you process an order. Although, we need to make sure we let everyone know so that all parts of the order checkout are cancelled08:02
@tavistoif you want to do it tomorrow I can help ya and make sure Doug kills the backend orders so they don't get printed.. We'll be in the same room afterall :)08:02
@tavistothe orders have been streaming in today08:02
+perlDreamerprobably better to do bug fixes first08:03
+perlDreameralthough, I am still planning on upgrading that server tomorrow08:03
@tavistowell I'm just saying it would be good to test it b/c it's fast and everyone is here together08:03
+perlDreamerthat's true08:03
@tavistocoolio, it's been a pig the last couple of days08:03
@tavistoorder #1011 just rolled in08:03
@tavistoI think we started today at like 995 or something08:04
+perlDreamerif this keeps up, y'all are going to have to expand08:06
@tavistonm, 1000 is what we hit today as first order08:06
@tavistowe did about $1k in rev today08:06
@tavistowe made things more efficient and 2 guys can really rock out some orders.. some of the time our guys have had idle time08:06
@tavistoeven with the big orders coming in.. so that's great to see08:06
+perlDreamerare you getting any of those off-Shop bulk orders?08:07
+perlDreamerwhere people order BIG amounts of games?08:07
@tavistowe really just need like 1.50 people working in there and so things are going well. If we continue to grow we've got the whole night shift available and we could get a vampire to work 3rd shift hehe08:07
@tavistowe've had a few 50+ orders but not too much yet08:07
@tavistoseveral of those are coming we're told.08:07
@tavistoit's kind of a pain because it's outside of the parameters that we've setup.. However, Doug made a nice bulk price selector that we can enter a price for x amount of quantity.. very basic but works08:08
+perlDreamertime for this old man to head to bed.08:17

+bartjolah, that would be an rfe17:48
+bartjolI do have karma, but will only spend it on approved rfe's17:48
+perlDreamerhaving a crumbtrail per asset would be hugely expensive17:49
+perlDreamerif you're talking about a standard Navigation crumbtrail17:49
+perlDreamerif you're not, then I'll shut up and let you tell me more about your great idea :)17:50
ckotilyeah, nav crumbtrail17:50
ckotilbut since there are only 10 search results per page, would it really be hugely expensive?17:51
ckotilnow if you were returning 100's of search results maybe17:51
+perlDreameryes, because it 10*number_of_ancestor asset lookups17:51
+perlDreamerso, if your assets are 3 levels deep, it's 30 asset lookups17:51
ckotilah yes. perhaps a new table column could hold the crumb trail data for each asset17:52

@tavistohey perlDreamer01:01

-!- tavisto [n=tavisto@71-90-29-5.dhcp.ftbg.wi.charter.com] has quit []01:09
dionakthe last 2 lines are effectively what's happening in WebGUI::Session::Form::param01:09
dionakApache2::Request returns an object whereas pseudoreq appears to return a hash which gets eval'ed into the number of elements (28 in the case of this example)01:10
+perlDreamercalling Dumper enforces a context, list context01:11
+perlDreamer->param says that if you call it in list context, it returns the keys01:11
+perlDreamertry assigning it to a scalar, then dumping that01:11
+perlDreamerand I'll try it, too :)01:11
dionakbut i don't think context is important unless you're passing in a field name01:11
dionakwhich by the way works fine01:11
+perlDreamerlet's make a difference between session->form->param, and session->request->param01:13
+perlDreamerform->param works the way I said it did01:13
dionakok, our test returned 001:14
dionakmy $paramForm = $session->form->param();01:14
dionakprint "\nrequest => " . Dumper($paramForm);01:14
dionakis that what you mean?01:14
+perlDreameryup01:14
dionakoutput =>  $VAR1 = 0;01:14
+perlDreamerlet's take a step back01:15
dionaksure01:15
+perlDreamerwhat is it you want to get from the session request object?01:15
dionakthe form params from post (pseudo)01:15
+perlDreamerall of them at once?01:16
dionakyes01:16
+perlDreamerwith no server side validation?01:16
dionaknot sure where you're going with that question but i wasn't expecting any01:16
+perlDreamerwell, to get the raw data, use $session->form->paramsHashRef01:17
dionakwhat about the validated data? how would we do that?01:17
+perlDreamerif you want WebGUI to validate your form data, then use $session->form->__FIELD_TYPE__(__FIELD_NAME)01:18
-!- SquOnk [n=emhn@200.84.99.228] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]01:18
+perlDreamerfield type is things like text, checkList, integer, float, and so on, things in WebGUI::Form::*01:19
dionakok; so when would we want to call session->form->param?01:19
dionakbtw, in our test script, session->form->paramsHashRef is empty01:20
dionakdo you have any tests that successfully post a form where we could see how the setup works and test these methods?01:21
dionaki'm really unsure if it's us or the pseduo req object causing these testing travails01:21
+perlDreamerack setup_body /data/WebGUI/t will find all those tests01:22
+perlDreamer$params = $session->form->paramsHashRef(); returns a good looking hashref for me01:22
dionakwith our code or yours?01:22
+perlDreamerI pasted your code into a script and ran it01:22
dionakwhat version of pseudorequest?01:23

dionakmy thought on the error is that perhaps the config file is very different between 7.5.x and 7.6.x? that's the only thing I can think of but I think our most important issue is why that one site wasn't upgraded but the others were00:45
dionakbtw, we're launching the site you consulted with me on tomorrow00:45
dionakvery exciting. i'll post a link when it's up00:46
dionakif i could run the upgrade process on a single site database, that would help resolve this issue. 00:47
dionaki may move the configs for the other two sites to a .bak file, symlink WebGUI back to 7.6.35 and try upgrading from there.00:47
dionakwhile crossing my fingers ;)00:48
dionakperlDreamer, I also wrote the beginnings of a test for SiteIndex.pm and made an edit the the module. If I send it over to you, can you review?00:49
+perlDreamersure!00:50
+perlDreamerwhat's the edit?00:50
dionakit hides pages that have isHidden = 1 (hide from navigation)00:50
dionakjust curious if this has been done already. i haven't been keeping up with git00:50
dionakit's for an RFE, let me get the link00:51
+perlDreamerI don't think that's been done already00:51
+perlDreamerthe problem will be committing the code, since 7.8 is closed for new development, just bug fixes are allowed00:52
+perlDreameralthough, I think that's kind of a bug00:52
+perlDreamerI was able to run an upgrade on a dev site from 7.6.35 to 7.7.31 without any problems00:52
+perlDreamerI'd have to see the conf file to look more deeply00:52
dionakoh, according to the docs i understood i had to go to 7.7.20 before going further (gotchas)00:53
dionakfrom 7.6.3500:53
dionakHere's the RFE00:54
dionakhttp://www.webgui.org/rfe/request-for-enhancement/1104400:54
dionakShould I create a patch against the latest in git?00:54

@preactionwhat's the problem?19:40

hudsong123When I run  perl -MWebGUI::Asset::Wobject::CustomReport -e install /data/WebGUI/etc/website.conf, nothing happens19:41
@preactionit should be just "website.conf"19:41

dionakdoes anyone have an example of a sql report template in template::toolkit?20:39
dionaki'm having a hard time accessing the variables inside the row loop20:40
@preactiondionak: pastebin it and i can try to help20:41
dionakk, give me a few20:41
dionaki recreated this. was trying TT in sql reports earlier in the week. I think it has to do with . vs '_'. http://webgui.pastebin.com/d1f69d5a821:01
@preactionthe TT driver changes . to _21:01
@preactionso "IF session_var_adminOn"21:01
@preactionrows_count_isZero21:01
@preactionrows_loop21:01
@preactionetc...21:01
dionakso i don't need to change the variables then?21:02
dionakhandy21:02
@preactionin your TT template you need to change the variables to have _ instead of .21:02
dionakah21:02
@preactionthe WebGUI TT driver changes them for you21:02
@preactionand the H::T::E one21:02
@preactioni replied to your RFE21:02
dionakok, so i do need to change those21:02

dionaktks for the reply. i'll have a look21:03
@Haargalso on the first line you have broken template tags21:03
@Haarg[% assetId> when you probably want [% assetId %]21:04
dionaktks Haarg21:04
dionakSo this is still unclear to me. Do I need to manually change the dots in variables to underscores in the template code for both HTML::Expr and TT?21:05
@preactionyes21:05
-!- hudsong123 [n=hudson@iphost-64-56-142-99.wpg.wiband.net] has left #webgui []21:05
dionakYou say it does it for us in the RFE21:05
@preactioni mean that if there's a "." in a variable given to the template by the application, it gets changed to an _21:06
dionakah21:06
@preactionbecause Expr and TT use . as syntax21:06
dionakPerhaps I need to make my RFE a bit more clear21:06
@preactionif it's what you just said, it can't be done21:07
+perlDreamerit would be a very difficult RFE21:07
+perlDreamergoing from H::T to H::T::E would be easier, since the syntax is simpler and there's no translation required21:07
@preactionwe'd be better off just moving to TT entirely than pre-parsing HTE and TT to change . to _ before the engine gets it21:08
+perlDreameragreed21:09
dionakthat would be my preference as well21:09
+perlDreamerbut in order to do that move, we have to be able to automatically translate all templates from H::T to T::T21:09
dionakas long as we were careful to keep as much code out of templates as possible21:09
@preactionif i can convince TWG to move our templates to TT so we can deprecate the H::T and H::T::E plugins, we might be able to get going on it21:09
@preactionwhat do you mean "code"?21:10
+perlDreamerdionak: that is an entry into a very ugly philosophical discussion21:10
dionake.g. - perl blocks21:10
@preactionwhy not? if it makes it easier to display something, i'm all for it21:10
dionakit has to be said. 21:10
@preactionstrict divisions between components always create uglier code than fuzzy divisions (because of the cases where one needs a fuzzy division)21:10
dionakif it's about display, yes. i've seen issues with TT and Mason where a lot of logic gets embedded into templates21:10
@Haargwe aren't going to allow perl blocks in TT21:11
dionakthat's my biggest concern21:11
@preactionbasically thus: the template should not be able to alter anything and should not be able to affect any other request21:11
@preactionbut munging data to display it differently using regular expressions, completely fine21:11
@Haargeven ignoring issues about separation of code vs display, we can't allow perl in templates for security reasons21:12
dionakagreed. same goes for formatting 21:12
@preactionfrodwith and I had a discussion the other night about this: it will take more code to make it so you can't modify things in the template than to just give an Asset object directly to TT to do with as you please21:12
@preactionoh, actual Perl blocks21:12
@Haargthat would be nice, although i'm not sure it can be done.  seems like we will need to have a proxy object of some kind.21:12
+perlDreameryup21:12
@preactioni would say enabling/disabling of Perl blocks should be up to the Admin. we'll ship off by default and provide no instructions on how to turn it on21:13
@preactionmy ideal TT config is a hash inside the config file passed directly to TT21:13
dionakthat would be ideal, yes.21:13
@preactionthere are lots of interesting TT things that we may not want to take advantage of, but Random WebGUI Admin A might21:14

SquOnkperlDreamer: Exactly. It depends on several things.01:04
SquOnkperlDreamer: Encoding on both ends... as usual :-)01:04
SquOnkperlDreamer: http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/TinyMCE:Configuration/entity_encoding01:06
SquOnkperlDreamer: The translation only happens if you're using some ISO-8859 encoding on the server side, such that whatever the browser sends gets converted to a single byte in the encoding, and then you convert to an entity.01:07
SquOnkperlDreamer: If the server uses UTF-8, then there's no need to translate.01:07
SquOnkperlDreamer: So, forcing UTF-8 on the server side (a Good Thing (tm)) would make translation superfluous.01:07
+perlDreamerI'm pretty sure that WebGUI uses all UTF-8 internally01:08

elnino_laptopoh ok.  Im glad Im not going crazy. I often wonder.05:06

@preactionyes, i would prefer that the internal bits of HTML that we have strewn about WebGUI would be available to be altered by an administrator, but that's unfortunately not in the cards for anytime soon05:06
elnino_laptopbefore there was a choice between content editor and something else, couldn't yui be just another choice of editor? or are you guys completely ripping the tinymce out?05:08
elnino_laptopbrb05:08
@preactionthose are two different configurations of the same editor: TinyMCE05:10
@preactionthe YUI-based Code Editor is not the same as a rich editor (which is why we still have the tinymce, for now)05:10
@preactionthe YUI rich editor doesn't do tables, which is one major reason we haven't switched already05:10

elnino_laptopit has problems with selecting too. has that been reported?05:15
elnino_laptopI dunno. I think yui editor needs to go away.. what advantages does the yui editor bring? other than being able to consolidate everything to use yui? (asset manager, sorting datagrids etc?)?05:18
elnino_laptopbrb05:18
+perlDreamerelnino_laptop, it brings one big advantage, and that is that it is not another piece of javascript05:33
+perlDreameralso TinyMCE has been a pain the buttocks for many years05:33
+perlDreamerit's not stable, or consistent05:33
+perlDreamerwe need approximately 3.5 preaction days to get the current set of bugs fixed05:33
+perlDreamerbut those are precious, rare to come by days05:34
@preactioni might be able to fit you after Ragnarok, but i'm pretty booked05:34
@preactionbut again, the Code Editor has little to nothing to do with the YUI Rich Editor05:34
+perlDreamerRagnarok, is that before or after Armageddon and 2012?05:35
+perlDreameralso, I thought we could live without tables?05:35
@preactionthat's what DataTable was made for, back in WUC '0805:35
+perlDreamerthat's right05:36
@preactionbut perhaps since then tables have been made to work in Safari's design mode05:37
@preactioni think it was either Safari or Firefox that had the table problem05:37
@preactionor who knows, maybe it always has worked and Dav just didn't implement it05:37
@preactionoh, just a warning: i made another mysql monitor, this time for slow-running queries. the sge.plainblack.net site has it05:39
+perlDreamerI saw that ticket05:40
@preactionit will try to auto-kill any query that takes longer than X seconds, unless it's REPAIR or OPTIMIZE (which, if killed, will corrupt the table)05:40
@preactionk05:40
@preactionone of these days i'll consolidate all the monitoring so that every server takes advantage of it al05:40
@preactioninstead of just the ones that need it05:40
@preactioni'll have time for that after the heat-death of the universe05:41
@preactionjust in time for the next big bang05:41
+perlDreamerthe universe is expanding too quickly for any more big bangs05:42
+perlDreamerso you'll have to reference some other thing05:42
+perlDreamerlike the 64-bit date overflow 05:42
@preactionwell, the heat-death refers to the final state of entropy - universal homogenity05:43
@preactionwhat could possibly happen after that? perhaps our big bang is just a tiny particle of another big bang05:43
@preactionbut then, really, life is the anti-entropic force05:44
@preactionlife / entropy, order / chaos05:44
+perlDreameryes05:44
+perlDreamerphp/perl05:44
@preactionlife can expend energy to turn entropy into more life05:45
@preactionso perhaps the theory of the heat-death is... premature05:45
@preactionwhich means i'll still have to do my work :'(05:45

@preactionhigh-concurrency and always-instantiated assets would make WebGUI a lot faster00:16
@preactionbut how could a single instance of an asset process two requests at the same time?00:16
@preactioni mean, in theory it would work just fine except that the session is kept in the asset object00:17
@preactionthe alternative seems to be a session object kept in a global location, localized to a single request cycle (so $PACKAGE::session actually has multiple values at the same time, but a single request can only get the one it needs)00:18
@preactionin this way, the session will get destroyed when it needs to be, but every other object can stay in-memory00:18
@preactionbut if we think about things this way, we can even keep open sessions in memory00:19
@preactionso webgui is a long-running application that handles communication between the web server and another application00:21
@preaction(those other applications are also long-running, so they can do fun things with the statefulness)00:25

+perlDreamerHaarg: how about "aspect" as a replacement for "attribute" in WebGUI::Definition?05:04
+perlDreamerwe'll be replacing AssetAspects with Roles05:04

+perlDreamerpreaction: attribute is already used by Moose.  It means something different07:38
@preactionand we can't use "has" because of tableName?07:41
+perlDreamerright, we need it to be propagated down into each property07:42
+perlDreameralthough I may have coded around that limitation07:42
+perlDreamercheck out 'sub write' in Asset.pm07:42
@preactionwhy were traits abandoned?07:42
-!- daviddelikat1 [n=dav@h69-129-206-153.mdsnwi.broadband.dynamic.tds.net] has joined #WebGUI07:43
+perlDreamerI know nothing about the intent to use traits in WebGUI::Definition07:43
@preactionwhy can't tableName be a subroutine? does any other attribute need to be propagated like that?07:55
+perlDreamerit can't be subclassed07:55
+perlDreamereach class needs to keep track of its own table07:55
@preactionoh, right, every one does07:55
+perlDreamerand technically, Asset has 207:55
+perlDreamerand would be much better off with 207:55
@preactionright, each class keeps track of all its table names using a package-scoped lexical07:56
@preactionin an arrayref07:56
+perlDreameractually, each class keeps track of its table name with a metaclass method07:56
+perlDreamerare you thinking of the old static_definition, instead of the Moose one?07:57
@preactionthe point being: why can't we use "has" if there are other ways around the problems that the "aspect" keyword now gets around?07:57
+perlDreameranything you declare with has can be overridden by subclasses or roles07:58
-!- daviddelikat [n=dav@h69-129-206-153.mdsnwi.broadband.dynamic.tds.net] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]07:59
@preactionisn't that a good thing? 08:00
+perlDreamernot if you need to store data in 2 different tables08:00
+perlDreamerthink how unhappy Snippet would be if it tried to put title, url, etc into its own table08:00
@preactioni thought those were "property"08:01
+perlDreameryes08:01
@preactionso then why do we need "aspect"/"attribute"?08:01
+perlDreamerYou'd need to ask the original architect08:01
+perlDreamerevery time I think I find a hole in the design, I find a reason why it's there08:02
@preactionperlbot timtoady08:02
perlbotpreaction: TIMTOWTDI: There is more than one way to do it  08:02
+perlDreamerno doubt, all I'm saying is that I have no doubt at all that there are very good reasons why things are designed this way08:03
+perlDreamerI don't know those reasons, yet.08:03
@preactionyes, but now we have to change the design to something undesirable. aspect to programmers is still about "aspect-oriented programming", another name for Roles or MI08:04
+perlDreamerbut in Moose they are clearly called Roles08:04
+perlDreamerI'm not in love with the name08:04

@HaargperlDreamer, preaction, 'attribute's were intended to replace the top level data in definition.  they could mostly be implemented as subs, but i wanted the information available in both the class and the metaclass.  it's also intended to be easy to use.17:44

@Haarghmm.  you can't override the defaultValue of a field in the config file.21:34
+perlDreamerin which branch, Haarg?21:35
@Haargmaster21:36
@Haargfor form generation21:36
@Haargmore specifically, you can override defaultValue, but it doesn't matter because it will always also supply a value21:36
+perlDreameralso, lrobinson has sent me a bugfix for Assets which have custom getEditForm code that allows config file overrides to work on them21:36
@Haargand if there is no value, it uses the defaultValue from the definition, not the config file21:37
+perlDreamersounds like a bug21:37
SDuensinOk, this is completely off topic in here, but your names all start with "perl" ...  Anybody use Win32::OLE to do ADO?21:38
+perlDreamerSDuensin, you know how much time we spend on windows, regardless of that are names say :)21:39
@Haargclosest i've gotten to that is using DBD::ODBC against a MSSQL server21:39
SDuensinFigured I might get lucky.  One of you may have a horrible side gig.  :-)21:40
@Haargwhat kind of problem are you having?21:40

SDuensinHow in the Wide Wide World of Sports do you determine column names?!21:40
@Haargon a recordset?21:42
SDuensinYea21:42
SDuensinI did a Dumper($rs) and that just runs you out of memory because the dumb thing is recursive.21:42
@Haargdon't they have a Fields property?21:42
SDuensinNot a useful one.21:43
@Haarghow so?21:43
SDuensinIt says:  'Fields' => bless({ 'Count' => 4, 'Item' => undef }, 'Win32::OLE')21:44
@Haargi wouldn't really expect Data::Dumper to be able to dump Win32::OLE stuff properly21:45
SDuensinI also tried blindly printing things like $rs->Field(0)->Name.  No dice.  Apparently $rs->Field(0) is undefined.21:45
@Haarghttp://search.cpan.org/~jdb/Win32-OLE-0.1709/lib/Win32/OLE/Enum.pm21:46
@Haargtry using that on $rs->Fields21:47
SDuensinReading.21:47
@Haarg$rs->Fields should be a collection21:47
@Haargand the individual fields should have ->Name among other things21:48
+perlDreamerData::Dumper is supposed to handle recursion21:48
SDuensinperlDreamer: I set it's maxdepth to keep it from blowing up.21:49
